12:56 pm Four Times Merlin didn't Save Arthur, and One Time He Did by misswinterhill (PG)
Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: None
Length: 5000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] misswinterhill
Author Website: her AO3 page and Master List of Fic
Why this must be read:

If this story had a subtitle, it would be "A Boy and His Dragon." The fic is really about Merlin and Kilgarrah and their changing relationship as dragon and dragonlord. What I really love about it, is watching their friendship grow from the semi-antagonism and Merlin commanding Kilgarrah at the beginning to real compassion and care for each other by the end. Kilgarrah is one of the two people who know who Merlin is completely, someone that Merlin doesn't have to protect, but rather who will protect him.

The story is set post-seaosn 3 because the knights are mentioned, but there are no real spoilers.

02:15 pm Unfinished Business by Maygra (explicit)
Fandom: THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS
Pairing: Dominic Toretto/Brian O'Conner
Length: 84.000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] maygra
Author's website: assignations.org
Why this must be read: This story is recced in many places and deservedly so. It has the status of being a fandom classic. It's long and plotty and a wonderful read. Plus, there are sequels and other stories that take place in the same story universe. Unfinished Business is an alternative ending of the first movie and a great Dom/Brian first time story.

He saw the shadow move before he actually registered the sound, the click. Instinct and surprise should have made him move faster, but he was almost on the shadow before he noticed it, before it moved. It was no tackle, more like tripping, legs tangling with his, a heavier body and an amazingly solid fist punching into his lower back even while he twisted around to meet his attacker head-on. That faint filtered light from the windows and the kitchen shone off skin and a white t-shirt. A mostly white t-shirt. So glaring now even in the half-light and how had he missed it? How had he missed Dom sitting in his living room?

03:51 pm The Department of Magical Crimes, by Luzula
Fandom: due South
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Length: 14,819
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] luzula
Author's website: http://archiveofourown.org/users/Luzula/pseuds/Luzula
Why this must be read: It is almost impossible with Luzula to decide which fic to recommend, because her work is so consistently excellent. I'm picking this one because it's something that could be read by a complete newcomer to the fandom, and give them warm fuzzy feelings for our boys that might draw them further in. Yay! I'm pimping the fandom. But mostly because Luzula expands on the magical realism of the show and makes it more magical, and still painfully, poignantly real. What would happen if two people who loved each other were 'joined' psychically, and one wanted the link, the other didn't? Read this for a beautiful, believable answer.

10:40 pm As Close As It Gets To Home - airgiodSLV (NC-17)
Fandom: BANDOM - ensemble
Pairing: Frank/Gerard, Ryan/Brendon, Jon/Spencer, Gabe/William
Length: 52,175 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv
Author Website: AO3
Summary: Ryan takes in a breath, retreating from Spencer’s mind to brush against the newcomer, but when he reaches there’s nothing there. Telepath police consultant AU.

Why this must be read: This is one of the stories in bandom I must have read more than a dozen times and yet somehow, I never ever get sick of it. The storyline is compelling and clever, it has a few unexpected twists and emotional turns that are just as amazing the 10th read as the first. The characters ring so true, you'll end up wishing you were a telepath too. Not to mention: there's so much of it! 50k+, um, yes please. :D

Are you ever going to find a partner for Urie? )

As close as it gets to home

Note: [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv posted this as a series with part 2 being a prequel to part 1. However as a sort of sidestory, [livejournal.com profile] bexone wrote her own version of the Chicago branch of telepath police consultants, which can be found here. I suppose you can look at it as if the AO3 series is the original and [livejournal.com profile] bexone's fic is an AU of that. But regardless of where and how it ties in, it's an amazing story and definitely worth a the read.
