Why this must be read: It's late in the month to just be getting to my other OTP in this fandom, but here we are. I loved Natasha/Steve before I read this fic, but I feel like this fic is a good explanation for WHY I love them so much. Gender-conceptions-wise, they're such an interesting pair, and their dynamics are never rote. I also love this fic because I think it's a good example of dealing with Steve's time-displacement without pounding it over the head.

05:01 pm A Day Less Ordinary by JoJo (PG-13)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: none
Length: 25,858 words

Author’s website:   On AO3
Why this must be read: Last month hardboiledbaby recced JoJo’s This Mission Thing, which the author notes is "probably... a sequel to A Day Less Ordinary, but could also maybe be read as post-Sweet Revenge."  Well, A Day Less Ordinary has not yet been recced here, so I thought I would do that right now, since it’s also an excellent story and really should be read.

A Day Less Ordinary is set in a world without James Gunther, but which moves on its own somewhat parallel course.  A day that starts out like any other quickly turns into a nightmare when Starsky is gravely injured.  It’s full of hurt and comfort, wonderful writing, and all the detail that could never be packed into a one-hour television episode, including the most harrowing emergency transport I’ve ever read.   Even though it’s an ever-so-slightly different universe in which Starsky and Hutch exist, in JoJo’s hands they’re warm and familiar and true and so alive, which makes this story all the more frightening and believable.

From "A Day Less Ordinary":

Starsky sank slowly on to his knees as his strength flowed out of him in a rush - he would have fallen forward except he sensed the hilt sticking out from under his ribs and he so got only one hand to the ground. He tried to turn around, to do the only thing that occurred to him, which was to find his partner to sort it all out.

Fandom: Rise of the Guardians
Pairing: Jack/Pitch
Length: 2,088 words
Author Website: AO3

Why this must be read:
Author Summary:
The adrenaline makes it all worth it, the pain and bruising and bleeding and the proof of existence that they both crave. It’s the most honest thing that Jack’s known.

This Blackice seems inspired by the two adelaide_rain pwp pieces recc'd earlier this month, but without the porn due to being rated Teen. It looks more at Jack's non-sexual motivations for seeking out Pitch, and as such is an interesting look at his loneliness.

10:59 pm Wednesday Night Boys - arsenicjace (NC-17)
Fandom: BANDOM - PATD, MCR, FOB (in the background)
Pairing: Spencer/Bob, Ryan/Brendon/Jon, Frank/Gerard, Mikey/Ray
Length: 92,000+ words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] arsenicjade
Author Website: Taste of Poison
Summary: Where Panic are largely rentboys, MCR runs a clinic and FOB is off in Sausalito, saving the manatees.

Why this must be read: Wednesday Night Boys is such a quintessential fic in bandom for me, I was incredibly surprised to find nobody had recced it yet. (If someone has and I missed it, I apologize. But it's totally worth a double mention.) The summary makes it sound simple but in reality it's a very compelling story with complex characters and unexpected turns (well sort of. This is fic we're talking about) and lots of emotion that is pretty much guaranteed to tug at your heartstrings. It will make you happy and sad and everything inbetween, and it has a happy ending, like every good story should. :)

I also very much like the fact that there's two stories: Wednesday Night Boys and Home Is A Name, telling the story of the streets and the story of the clinic, respectively. Wednesday Night Boys features a lot of bandom characters but doesn't really expand on anyone outside of PATD, except Bob. They all seem very awesome but you can tell they have their own story, which doesn't fit in WNB. But then Home Is A Name tells that Frank-Gerard-Mikey story, so it's kind of like having the cake and getting to eat it too.

If you have a fondness for hookerfic and you haven't read it yet, I highly, highly recommend it.

There's a pool going for how long the new kid'll last. )

PS: I'm terribly sorry for the delay in posting. Someone I've known for a very long time passed away a few days ago and I completely lost track of this community. Thankfully, the mods have allowed me to make up for it next month so hopefully, I'll be able to post every other day till the end of September. :)

Why this must be read:This is a post Operation Susie story. It picks up right after the episode. I like that they feel betrayed, I certainly did, and the lads act on this feeling. They discover the wilds of Scotland and their feelings for each other.

A bit of paranoia. . . )

Now try it out.
