The Fan Fictional Efforts of La SqueenWhy this must be read: A lot of stories that are marked Derek/Stiles aren't necessarily about that. In fact, I'd say this one is only even pre-slash if you squint the squintiest squint ever squinted. It's more about family and memories, that gut-wrenching moment when you are reconnected to your past, and suddenly you're both elated and miserable because for one instant you have the people you love back, but it makes their loss that much more painful.
Stiles is working a summer job at the library, and though he's stepped back from the werewolf shenanigans after Season 2, he can't help but reach out to Derek when he finds an old film in the archives. Of course, Stiles and Derek being who they are, Stiles can't give the footage to Derek directly, and Derek can't exactly say how much it means to him. (Boys!) The story also gives Peter a nice touch of humanity, and seems fitting for these end of summer days.
An Excerpt[Stiles] freezes, crouched down by the DVD player, arm outstretched.
He’s pretty stupid. That’s all Stiles can think, eyes fixed on the screen. They always went to celebrate the Fourth of July, and those other DVDs had all had his dad sitting on the dais with Sheriff Ritter and the mayor, looking mostly bored out of his skull, so Stiles not realising – not even conceiving – that his mother
might be on there as well is stupid. On AO3:
