01:38 pm Counting the Breaths by Kirsty Welsh (gen)
Hi, guys. My name is wightfaerie and I am driving the crack_van for the first time. dawnebeth has left it in tip top condition for me. But be warned, I don't drive anything usually so I may well crash and burn! Apologies in advance. I thought I would start this journey at my beginning, with a story that was one of the first that I read in this fandom. Fingers crossed.

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: none
Length: 17,435
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: http://kirstywelsh1.tripod.com/index.html
Why this must be read: This story fills in the bits that The Plague part 2 misses out. What happens to Hutch between Judith taking Callendar's blood and the airport goodbye? Plenty in this story. For me, it fills in unanswered questions to Hutch's recovery. The battles fought to nurse him back to his healthy self. I can't vouch for the medical accuracy of this story, but it worked for me. There are some typos in the story, but nothing that distracted me from the unfolding events.

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Ray Vecchio
Length: 2302 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] prudence_dearly
Author Website: due South Fic on AO3, more can be found on her LJ via her “fic roundup” tags.
Why this must be read:

I seem to have accidently adopted a theme this month of Ray Vecchio’s pursuit of Ray Kowalski. And it’s a good theme! In this story, Fraser takes Ray on a spirit quest. Or Ray’s subconscious imagines Fraser telling him what he should be doing. Fraser is not subtle when he wants you to do the right thing, and this story is about seven different kinds of adorable.

11:05 pm Kushiel's Fall (Teen)
Hello again, friends! I'm finally getting around to posting my first rec, and I'm sorry it's taken so long. I really wanted to find one that had a fantastic Kushiel vibe but did not spoil anything too huge from the books, in a rather blatant attempt to entice new readers to check out Kushiel's Dart.

Fandom: KUSHIEL'S LEGACY
Pairing: Favrielle nó Eglantine/OC
Length: 4701
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] edonohana
Author Website: Edonohana on AO3
Warnings: No warnings on the fic itself, but it does spoil one bit from the books (one which I included in a spoiler tag in the character section of the overview).
Why this must be read: As I mentioned in the fandom overview, despite being a minor character in the books, I really think Favrielle-fic is some of the best fic out there. Favrielle is a great character. Edonohana has her voice - and the voice of the books themselves – down perfectly.

Fandom: TEEN WOLF
Pairing: Scott McCall/Isaac Lahey
Length: 6200+ words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: I was asked if I had any Scott-centric recs for you guys this month and as he is my one true lord and alpha, I couldn't wait to oblige. This little gem is one I read recently and what the author describes as crack I consider a true delight from start to finish.

Here we have an AU in which werewolves still exist and Isaac goes to college where he unexpectedly encounters an alpha in his Comparative Lit class and what really stands out in this for me is Scott's characterization (which is revealed through Isaac's POV and only serves to make Scott MORE endearing). It's always interesting to take a look at what these characters would be like without the weight of canon on their shoulders and this fic gives us a Scott who is a wonderful extension of the sweet, dorky, earnest boy we meet in the pilot but with serious game. Like. Serious. I dare you not to fall a little bit in love with Scott in this fic.

Isaac is also great here - a little sweet, a little snarky, and so totally done for as soon as Scott smiles at him. Plus his interactions with his pack are fun and made me giggle more than once. And the references to canon, not to mention Lydia's cameo, are all ridiculously fabulous little moments that make this college AU come to life.

So if you're looking for something funny and flirty and guaranteed to make you smile, check this one out!
