This week I'm going to focus on some of the smaller characters on Justified- and on getting out of my comfort zone a little bit.  If you've hoping for some fics with Raylan and people named Crowder in secondary roles, this is your week.

Fandom: JUSTIFIED
Characters: Ensemble, emphasis on Tim Gutterson and Rachel Brooks
Length: 4,115 words
Author on LJ: N/A
Author on Website: at AO3

Why this must be read: It's a great Tim-centric fic, wherein he gets help from Rachel- and, reluctantly, Raylan- to help stop an old army buddy from killing a protected witness.  It's also a wonderful look at how the marshals function as a team, full of lovely characterizations, and lines that are absolute gems, like this one:

She grimaced.  "I know calling Raylan for backup is like bringing a nuke to a knife fight, but those guys your friend was hanging out with are Russian mafia."

Fandom: WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE
Pairing: Cecil/Carlos
Length: wordcount 2,676
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: badfic.net; works on AO3
Warnings: Angst, brainwashing, hurt/comfort, “I guess this might count as some kind of dubcon?”
Notes: Set after episode 27, “First Date,” but no spoilers
Why this must be read:

After a frankly awful day, Cecil gets a surprise:

Carlos is in his house. Why is Carlos in his house? His house that smells like garam masala.

“Hi,” Carlos says. Then, “I made rogan josh.”

“I… love rogan josh,” says Cecil, because he does, and because Carlos is right there, pressed against him. Touching him. And it’s beautiful and wonderful and perfect and completely terrifying because Cecil has absolutely no idea why it’s happening.

With all the flamboyant weirdness in Night Vale, it’s easy to overlook some of the truly horrible things that Cecil mentions offhandedly — like when he says, in “History Week,” “I am to report to City Hall for re-education effective tomorrow morning.” In this sexy, sad, sweet story, Dee tackles why Cecil would be willing to take the risk of “re-education,” and how he and Carlos might deal with it.
