Fandom: MERLIN/DOCTOR WHO Characters/Pairing: gen; Morgana, Donna Noble, The Tenth Doctor Length: 2861 Author on LJ: netgirl_y2kAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read:Summary: That time the Doctor and Donna accidentally kidnapped Morgana.I think a significant number of Merlin fans would agree with me when I say that Morgana got the short end of the stick on the show both in terms of the story and her character trajectory. Which means I generally turn to fics for a better narrative for Morgana. And one of my favorite things about the recent Doctor Who has been the wonderful camaraderie of The Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble. So I was thrilled when I stumbled upon this crossover fic where The Doctor and Donna inadvertently kidnap Morgana and take her time/space traveling. The story is set much earlier in the show, right at the cusp of where everyone Morgana trusted kind of fails her and in this verse, The Doctor and Donna are there for her. And perhaps that was what made the difference. The story is at times humorous and sweet, full of warmth and wonderful characterizations. It's about Morgana finding herself, but mostly it's about finding a family to call your own in the most unlikely of places. The Future is Full of Possibilities (and chocolate biscuits)

Fandom: HOCKEY RPF Pairing: Jordan Eberle/Taylor Hall/Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Length: 17,581 words Author on LJ: biggersandwichAuthor Website: Author page on AO3Why this must be read:This story is less angsty than my last rec for this pairing, but no less delightful. Ryan propositions his two buddies, who he thinks are dating, but he's mistaken. There's confusion all around as the three figure out what they are doing, but it's all fun. Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Jim/Blair length: 78,774 Author on LJ: caariannaAuthor's website: Arianna's Aerie and on AO3Why this must be read: Many of Arianna's wonderful stories have been recced on here before but I was pleased to find this one hadn't as it is one of my favourites. Set post TSbyBS and told from Jim's pov the story has a strong, resourceful Blair picking up the pieces after the diss disaster. We see that Jim's perceptions of Blair are perhaps not the whole reality. The story has angst, romance, a case fic and my favourite 'who's Blair's father?' backstory. I also love the hint at the end of how things might develop in Cascade with the sentinel/guide business. The story was written for Moonridge and The Sentinel Big Bang 2010 so there is some lovely art to enjoy with it as well. The Unexpected Blair Sandburg

Fandom: HOCKEY RPF Pairing: Jordan Eberle/Taylor Hall/Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Length: 37,519 words Author on LJ: mockturtletaleAuthor Website: Author page on AO3Why this must be read:In this story, Ryan joins the team after Jordan and Taylor break up, and he gets pulled into the drama between his linesmen on and off the ice. While he really wants them to work things out, he also is falling for each of them. Lots of angst in this one, but also some sweetness to lighten the drama. we did enjoy our happiness

Fandom: due South Characters: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowlaski Length: medium - no wordcount given Author on LJ: http://estrella30.livejournal.com/ Author on AO3: no AND WHY NOT I ASK YOU? PLEASE, estrella30 COME TO AO3 SO YOUR GLORIOUS FIC IS EASIER TO FIND FOR THOSE OF US WHO ARE LAME AT LJ Why this must be read: Because it's the perfect blend of angst and realistic happy ending, set post CoTW and including RayV and Stella's wedding, where there is poor communication and pining and making each other unhappy and not talking about it. Because sometimes RayK an Fraser manage to talk about things in canon, but then there is everything that goes unsaid that you just know could screw things up when you have to make big decisions about which country to live in and making a commitment to someone and just HOW DO YOU HUMAN. And, appropriately enough for a story about not talking about things, the writing is beautifully subtle and understated and lets you see all this without telling you everything. Oh and it contains this line: " Scotch, neat, in as big a glass as you can give me without me looking like the jilted ex-husband." which is surely worth the admission price on its own?Dearly beloved

Title: The Job Fair Pairing: Clint “Hawkeye” Barton/Agent Phil Coulson, Cecil/Carlos Length: 5,337 words Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: Dreamwidth blog; works on AO3Notes: Set after Thor and before The Avengers. Spoilers for “The Whispering Forest,” “Eternal Scouts,” and “One Year Later.” Why this must be read:Whoops! Sorry I’m late with my crossover recs. Hopefully I can compensate for my tardiness with quality and quantity. First up is one of the fics responsible for sucking me into the Night Vale fandom. Like Clint, I didn’t know what I was getting into when he and Agent Coulson paid an unplanned visit to the latter’s hometown, a friendly desert community... It was, indeed, a sewing room, not that Clint had much expertise with sewing rooms. The walls clearly hadn't been redecorated, though. A big Captain America poster hung beside the outside window, partially obscured now by the dressmaker's dummy. There were photos on the wall, and Phil's mother stepped over, beckoning Clint over and pointing to them.
"This is Phil when he first started Boy Scouts," she said, pointing to a picture of a serious-looking young boy who couldn't be anybody else. "Here's Phil and his junior prom date- shame about the dance, but they were good enough to take back his tux even with the scorch marks. Here he is with his cousin Emily- oh, and this one is from when Phil was in the Boys Brigade of the Sheriff's Secret Police," Mrs. Coulson said, brimming with pride. "Doesn't he look so precious in his little cape and his balaclava?"
"Mom," Phil muttered, embarrassed.
It was at that very moment that Clint realized that none of this was a joke. This was not Phil's tour de force performance; this was not the best-executed prank in the history of all time. This was simply where Phil came from, and it was terrifying. Sabine does a fantastic job of integrating Night Vale with the Marvel ’verse, keeping everyone in character while giving enough background (including details borrowed from the comics) and local color that even someone unfamiliar with either canon can relate to the characters, marvel at the setting, and enjoy the story. “The Job Fair” on AO3; podfic version linked in the notes

Title: The Future Tense of Fear Pairing: Gen, background Cecil/Carlos Length: 625 words Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: works on AO3 Why this must be read:The author’s summary: “...is comedy or tragedy. (Or, How Perfect and Wonderful Carlos Humanely Got Rid of Those Two White Guys Who Were Trying to Kill Everyone)” This story is (a) funny and (b) a trenchant commentary on how the two canons differ in their treatment of race and LGBTQ issues. “You know, when I look back on my life less than twenty percent of my woes could be attributed to Night Vale in some way. About twenty percent more were happenstance that can happen anywhere. The remaining sixty percent were straight white men. I was starting to forget that." “The Future Tense of Fear” on AO3

Fandom: MERLIN Pairing: Merlin/Arthur Pendragon Length: 4947 Author on LJ: emjayelleAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read:This sweet and undeniably scorching hot fic is listed as PWP, but don't let that fool you. It's so much more than that. Equal parts sexy and humorous, in emjayelle hands the sex turns into something more than a drunken wager. In midst of the bet, the lovely banter and the hot sex, Arthur woos Merlin with poetry and it's glorious. I can't even do justice in describing how lovely this fic is. There's lots of wonderful details, great tension and a surprisingly sweet ending. Summary: "Merlin's Friday isn't going to plan, to say the least. Especially when he takes the wrong late-night bus and ends up in Frat Row where he meets Arthur, the annoying frat boy that sits behind him in poetry class, who, by the way, is entirely to blame for the drunkenness, betting, sex, and poetry reciting that follows."If Greater Want of Skill
