12:53 am i am here like there is sky and there is air, by Lauren (a.k.a. notalwaysweak) (R)
Fandom: WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE
Pairing: Erika/Old Woman Josie
Length: 3,283 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] notalwaysweak
Author Website: works on AO3; notalwaysweak on Tumblr
Warnings: Slight spoilers for “Yellow Helicopters”
Why this must be read:

Why are the Erikas in Night Vale? No one knows, not even Old Woman Josie, though they have shared some things with her: housework, paintings, extracts from books, radio shows, skywatching, and...

It seems like a base, human thing for angels to do, with fingers made for strumming harps and mouths made for singing holy words, but Josie comes to realize that this too is sacred, and that her voice joined with theirs is an unmatchable hymn.

The angels will answer her questions, “Why me? Why here? Why now?” when it is safe — or at least, when “asking others may be even less safe.” In the meantime, there are the simple pleasures of a settled life in a small town, like bowls of invisible Cajun popcorn from John Peters the farmer, and mugs of chili hot chocolate in the kitchenette of Night Vale Community Radio (“if Josie were a little younger and Cecil a little less infatuated with his Carlos, she thinks she would invite him home. She thinks she and the Erikas could show him a few things.”)

02:14 pm I hope our time and place match again soon, by Psilent (a.k.a. HereThereBeFic) (PG)
Fandom: WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE
Pairing: Gen, Dana/Cecil friendship
Length: currently two parts, combined wordcount ~4,000
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: on Tumblr; works on AO3
Notes: spoilers for “Dana” (ep. 30) in part 1, and “The Sandstorm” (eps. 19A & B) in part 2
Why this must be read:

The life expectancy of the average Night Vale Community Radio intern falls somewhere between Star Trek redshirt and Spın̈al Tap drummer. So far, Dana is beating the odds. Why would she take the risk? How would Cecil react to an intern who lasts more than one episode?

So she gets why it’s her, and maybe it should make things bittersweet, but she hasn’t gotten close to anyone since high school because Mickey vanished and Ramea slipped and Marianna sat in the back of a police cruiser and slammed herself against the doors and howled louder than the sirens, and Cecil interviewed a Hooded Figure and he talks on public radio about things no one else dares to think on too loudly and he walked into a vortex and walked back out with bruises and ruined shoes, and Dana is pretty sure he gets it, too.

11:34 pm Bands in a Spectrum by Goethicite (teen)
Fandom: JUSTIFIED
Pairing: Boyd Crowder/Raylan Givens, Ava Crowder/Boyd Crowder/Raylan Givens
Length: 11,197 words
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: at AO3

Why this must be read: It's a five times fic style A.U. showing the different things Boyd and Raylan could have been to each other if circumstances had been different.  It's gorgeous and evocative, packing a huge amount of punch into only five scenes.  There's one where Raylan and Boyd are partners in the marshal service and one where they were both born girls (this one, my favorite in the end, has a wonderful appearance by Mags Bennett) to name only a few.  Each and every one is lovely.
