Fandom: Fairy Tales: Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast
Pairing/Characters: Beast/Prince Phillip; B&B: Beast, Lumiere, Mrs Potts, Cogsworth, SB: Prince Phillip, Princess Aurora, Merriweather, Flora, Fauna, Maleficent, OMC
Length: 21K words
Author Website: at AO3

Why this must be read: The author's summary reads: Change a few words in a couple of magical pronouncements. Plop a couple of enchanted kingdoms next each other. Add identical twin princes. End up with a completely different fairy tale.

An intriguing summary about an amazing story that seamlessly intertwines two fairy tales that have one thing in common: each has a curse at its heart that only true love can break. Enjoy.

08:00 am Physiochemical Experiments in Influencing the Weather (The Cosmic Love Remix) by tree (G)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Fox Mulder/Dana Scully
Length: 1,794 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tree
Author Website: tree at AO3 | Gossamer
Why this must be read:

This is my favorite "driving out of Comity" story, hands down. I think [livejournal.com profile] tree acknowledges the energy of "Syzygy," while infusing it with sweetness and a needed jolt of reality. One of the defining and most attractive qualities about these characters is their intellect, and [livejournal.com profile] tree's dialogue captures that perfectly. My, how I do love to watch Mulder and Scully arguing about science!

Pairing: gen (Donna-centric, with Harvey)
Length: 1108
Author on LJ: not that I know of
Author Website: AO3 profile

Why this must be read: Back when Suits qualified for Yuletide and Donna didn't have a listed last name on AO3, this character study of Donna was written. Some things in this fic have been Jossed by now, but it's still a good insight into Donna's likes and thought processes through movies. There's even some backstory that doesn't involve Harvey!

Donna loved everything about Amadeus. She adored the period costumes, with the wigs and the makeup. She absorbed every detail; this was not the Mozart that Mrs. White taught her about in piano lessons. But Amadeus. taught her was the concept of character acting.

After she left the theatre, in her mind, she was Constanze. Donna never understood why the character meant so much to her, but for weeks after she left the theatre, Donna busied herself with looking like, walking like, talking like...with being a lady.

Of course, the Constanze phase passed. But her love of character didn’t.

Fandoms: UNCHARTED
Characters/Pairings: Victor Sullivan & Nathan Drake, Elena Fisher
Length: ~ 7800 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: on FanFiction.net
Why this must be read:

This story is a great look at the friendship between Sully and Nate, that delves into a familial relationship at times too, via a combination of Sully's POV on events near the mid to end of UC3 and also a flashback that nicely fills in a part of their history too.

Length: 215 words

Why this must be read:

A short but poignant ficlet that points out the trauma of UC2 events would not go away quickly. I liked it for the reminder that these things won't come easy for Elena after what she's been through and puts UC3 gameplay with her in another perspective.

Fandom: THE OFFICE
Pairing: Kelly Kapoor/Ryan Howard
Length: 1768 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lodessa
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: (Oh, hey, a non-JAM rec.) "The Office" did a good job for a while of hinting at why Kelly and Ryan might stay together, in spite of his not actually being anything she wants and vice versa. Obviously, that fell apart in later seasons, but this fic does a nice job of expanding on one of the wackier couples in canon--everyone's totally in character, yet there's a nice happy ending here.

He doesn’t do anything he knows of to get Kelly to wear those sexy little dresses. She’s just Kelly and she’d rather be caught dead than wearing something unflattering. )

Length: 6177 words
Rating: NC-17 or FRAO
Author on LJ: writing2death
Author Website: writing2death on AO3

Why this must be read: Okay, so it's FREEZING where I am and snowing to boot, so this rec just feels right today. In this AU story, Reid is a bookstore owner and not quite content in his life. Hotch appears one day and complicates things considerably. Reid and J.J. are the only characters who aren't canon compliant in this, and let's face it: Reid as a befuddled bookstore owner isn't that much of a stretch. This fic takes place around Christmas, incorporating a blizzard and the cozy, cloistered feel that you can only experience from a dusty book shop in winter. But what is really great about this fic is the series of miscommunications that frames Hotch and Reid's relationship. It is humorous and believable and a little bit wistful - writing2death makes us fret for Reid in this, but not too much, if you know what I mean. Maybe it's just a flashback to my days as a book store clerk, but I find this fic to be very comforting and it's one of the few that I go back and re-read regularly. Fix some hot cocoa and indulge yourself!
