Fandom: SUITS Pairing: Gen (Harvey, Mike, Louis, Kyle, Grammy Ross, Donna and Jessica) Length: 8202 Author on LJ: laughter_nowAuthor Website: Fic masterpostWhy this must be read: Poor Kyle. In this fic, he's sent to look for a client, but ends up meeting up with Mike's grandmother instead. I love this fic's comic tone, and did I mention poor Kyle?
It starts, as these things often do, with a set of instructions that in hindsight maybe should have been a little clearer. In this instance, it's Louis who is giving these fateful instructions to Kyle, and maybe the instructions are lacking some precision because the junior partner is busy sorting through papers and packing them into his briefcase while he is talking.
"We're expecting a client later this morning," he tells the associate without looking up. "Martha Rostovsky. She's been one of Hendricks' clients for over a decade, but now that he's retiring someone else needs to take over her account."
Kyle nods dutifully.
"What do you want me to do?"
That statement makes Louis look up sharply. "What I want you to do is make sure that she ends up becoming my client. Rostovsky is old money, lots of old money with plenty of different businesses she's involved in. Whoever is lucky enough to get her as a client will see their billables go through the roof, and naturally I want that to be my billables. Jessica wants her to take a look around and meet a few of the partners before she makes her decision, but I fully intend on giving her a few little nudges in the right direction right from the start. I'd do it myself, but Mrs. Rostovsky is scheduled to arrive at eleven and I have a meeting at the courthouse at ten, so I probably won't be back in time. Which is where you come in."

Fandom: CRIMINAL MINDS Characters/Pairing: Emily Prentiss/Spencer Reid, Derek Morgan, Aaron Hotchner, J.J. Jareau, Penelope Garcia, Mick Rawson Length: ~2000 & 1300 words respectively Rating: G or FRC Author Website: Author on AO3Why this must be read: Fabrisse has written a lot in this fandom and there is much to like in her efforts. She handles relationships well - both het and slash - and doesn't pull the reader too far away from canon in the process. If there's one complaint I have about her writing it's that she tends to have weird fixations (like a lot of details about food or other minor elements that aren't really important to the overall story). "Domino" and "Brunch In Georgetown" are two examples were this fixation works to the reader's benefit. In them (and you cannot separate them because they don't function well independently) Fabrisse investigates Reid's anachronistic values as a symptom of quiet self confidence. I love the idea that Reid is odd because he chooses to be that way rather than being a victim of majority behaviour. In these two stories we see how this confidence helps him get the girl without a lot of drama and anxiety. Reid seems like the master of his own destiny here and even when he's challenged, you know that he'll kick all kinds of ass in the process (albeit in a typically Reid-like way) - it's pretty satisfying. Fandom: Fairy Tales: Cinderella, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves Characters: Cinderella, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Ariel, Jasmine, Snow White, canon characters Length: 6K words Author Website: Unknown. This was originally part of Yuletide 2012 and was orphaned. In case you're unfamiliar with the term, orphaning a story means that it remains at a website to be enjoyed, but all information identifying the author has been removed. Why this must be read: If you're in the mood for dark, dark, dark times seven, this is for you. As with my last rec, the work was inspired by fan art, but in this case it's something that apparently has its own genre: Twisted Disney Princess fan art. Who knew? If there is ever the antithesis of "happily ever after", these vignettes qualify. Despite that, they are cleverly done, sometimes taking place in different points in history; sometimes weaving their ways into other legends and fables. With over 400 kudos, 50 comments and 22000 hits, the author obviously did something right. Is it appropriate to say "enjoy"? I particularly love this take on Tybalt's possible relationship with religion, as well as the vicious banter between Tybalt and Mercutio (the hatesex is hot, too). As a bonus there are also some gorgeous illustrations of young Tybalt and Mercutio by Atov.
