I promised I'd try my best to rec some other pairings... This one definitely deserves it! Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Dom/Elijah Author on LJ: sophrosyne31Author Website: LJ memoriesWhy this must be read: This is just such a beauty, it'd be a shame to pass it up because of a pairing bias. Images painted with words, the sensation of helplessly falling and the warmth of trees in the sun. Simply beautiful, stunning even. ( Extract )Regarding Elijah

Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Billy/Dom Ratings and Warnings: R/NC-17 for violence, language and sex. Character death! Author on LJ: kiltsandlolliesAuthor Website: Poking Badgers with SpoonsWhy this must be read: Billy is an inspector and Dom is a thief. It starts as some dark but mostly very sexy drabbles, but then develops into so much more - 21 gut-wrenching parts and several extras set in the same universe. To me, this is the mother of all angst-ridden but absolutely irresistible AUs. kiltsandlollies wrote a whole world and flawed but wonderful characters just waiting to break your heart. Exquisitely painful. ( Part 1: Drabble 1 )Officer and Gentleman

Good morning! I'm Shirasade and will be your driver for the Lotrips fandom this month. I've never done this before, but I'll do my best to entertain you. I apologize in advance for the single-mindedness with which I will rec Billy/Dom. What can I say? I'm an OTP kinda girl... However, I do promise to try my best to post some other pairings as well. :)Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Billy/Dom Author on LJ: hackthisAuthor Website: dysfunctional / LJ memoriesWhy this must be read: This story was one of the reasons I fell in love with the Billy/Dom pairing. Technically it's a songfic for the John Mayer song of the same name. Mainly, however, it's a gorgeous Billy POV, set during filming and showing the sweet progression of a love story in a series of 5 memories. 3X5

Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Billy Boyd/Dominic Monaghan Author on LJ: blackbird_songAuthor Website: lj memoriesWhy this must be read:This is one of the fics that I find myself drawn back to every couple of months. It leaves you wondering what's going to happen next, but happy to have gotten the little glimpses that you did get in the story. Missing Dom
|
Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Billy Boyd/Dominic Monaghan Author on LJ: apple_piAuthor Website: pi.monaboyd.netWhy this must be read:This one was written (for me!) as a part of the 2005 slashababy challenge, so I'm excited to rec it. Anyone that has any passing knowledge of Billy/Dom fic should recognize Pi's name - she's one of the fandom's most solid writers. This fic is everything that a comfort fic should be to me. It's sweet and sexy and leaves me with a good feeling that lasts all day. This Time Around (the Sun)

Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Billy Boyd/Dominic Monaghan Author on LJ: suede_scriptureAuthor Website: Fiction ArchiveWhy this must be read:This is the Billy/Dom AU that blew all others out of the water. Billy is a cruise ship lounge singer, and Dom is the burnt out social worker that catches his eye. People have filled pages describing how wonderful this story is, but rather than do that I'd just ask you to read it yourself! Twenty chapters of the best writing and characterization in fandom. (She's also just begun posting the WIP sequel, so check out her journal for that once you're done with this.) Beyond the Sea

Fandom: Lotrips Pairing: Viggo/ Orli Author's LJ: rsadelleAuthor's website: Ruth's Writing WorldWhy this must be read: I enjoy stories where the things and the characters just ain't quite right. Gotta find the line between Viggo's artsyness and creepyness. And Orli has gone right over the line with him. But it's really not that funny. ;) Not That Funny

Hey there. I'll be your lotrips reccer this month. This month's theme is "Really old-skool stuff that I can't believe hasn't been recced yet" This first one, posted one chapter every other day, kept me riveted through a dull semester in early 2002. Fandom: LoTRiPS Pairing: Karl/Dom (mostly) Author on LJ: azewewishAuthor Website: BroadwritingWhy this must be read: As the author warns, this is dark. Really dark. But fascinating, nonetheless. Dom and Orli have a bet to see who can get more male members of the cast into sexual situations. Dom decides to take on Karl as his next challenge. This backfires in a big bad way because it turns out that Karl is into Dom, power games, and getting exactly what he wants. Whether you're into power play or not, the dynamic that evolves between these two characters is the sort of thing you can't tear your eyes away from. Aside from the sex, the psychology of it will keep you turning the page. The reader should, however, be warned that at points the issue of consent in this story is cloudy at best. Fun and Games

Fandom: LOTRiPS Pairing: Billy/Dom Author on LJ: apple_piAuthor Website: (or a link to where more of their fic is archived) Why this must be read:http://monaboyd.net/pi/A very nice Monaboyd AU set in Glasgow where Billy owns a kilt shop and Dom needs one for a special occasion. This is not a serious fic. It's a fun Dom and Billy what if. Great to curl up with a nice cup of tea. Shop around the corner
|
Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Orlando/Viggo Author on LJ: cynical_terrorAuthor Website: http://cynical-terror.livejournal.com/203052.html#cutid1Why this must be read:An AU set in present day New York. Orlando is beset with a rare skin disease which makes even the simplest of tasks painfully arduous.Beyond shy, he has few friends, but one unusual Wednesday morning on the subway will change everything... This is a totally AU and some OOC settings but it's good melodrama fluff. I very rarely stick with WIP but I kept up with this one because it somehow hit all my buttons. Most of the cast is there. I especially liked Liv and Sean. Yes it's romantic fluff and Orlando is just OOC but it's good romantic fluff. And sometimes you need a good romantic story to curl up with. I'm not a big Viggorli fan but I liked this one. Chalk Butterfly******The story is temporarily down. The writer decided to review some parts. See comments below. The writer is okay with the feedback, she had done her research about the EB but wants to put in even more accurate information.******* ******The story is back up again.******** I'm late driving the van this month. RL, work and a nasty cold got to me but I should be able to get my four recs in before Friday.

Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Dom/Billy Author on LJ: dasheryAuthor Website: None Why this must be read: I'll warn upfront that this fic was written for my birthday, so it's possible that I may be a little biased, but I honestly don't think so. It's pure, unadulterated smut, but it's so perfectly written - dashery has an amazing handle on Dom and Billy's voices, and everything they say sounds completely in character. "Tell me something you’ve never told me before," Dom says as he shucks off his jeans and slides into Billy’s bed. "Something kinky."
"Hmm," Billy scratches his chin thoughtfully. "Sometimes, when you’ve gone a day or so without shaving, you remind me of my gran."Working Out the Kinks
|
Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Viggo/Elijah Author on LJ: saklani2 and wushu76Author Website: Saklani's Wilderness Why this must be read: I'll be the first to admit that this fic is more than a little schmoopy, but it's also pretty damn funny. Viggo lifted a tomato and regarded it with utmost seriousness, before putting it aside and picking up another that looked almost identical. Apparently, this one contained the right mystic aura, for Viggo put it in the cart.
Elijah looked at Viggo choosing the tomato, and then picked up the one in the cart and the rejected one. He studied them intently for a moment before asking, "What's the difference?"
Viggo pointed to the chosen one. "That one wanted to be a part of the pasta dish I'm making tonight."Just Doing the Shopping

Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Viggo/Elijah Author on LJ: travellerAuthor Website: manifesto no. 2Why this must be read: I think I've recced something by traveller every time I've been behind the wheel of the van. I love the way this fic captures a kind of longing on Viggo's part for something that he used to have; something that Elijah has a bit of now. I enjoy the way New York is portrayed, like a character in its own right (and that's one of this author's talents -- taking cities, places and atmospheres and making them absolutely integral to the story). It's a fic that feels bittersweet without being either bitter or sweet. It's not simple, that's for sure. Viggo's thinking about being twenty and getting fucked in the bathroom at Irving Plaza during a Tom Waits show; he's thinking that there was a time when slumming had its own integrity. His hands are unbuttoning Lij's jeans.Apple

Hi, I'm cat. You might have seen me driving the van before (three times for LotRiPS, once for LotR). I'm still a Viggo/Orlando girl, but I'm going to try to mix it up as best I can this month, although I make no promises. ;) Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Orlando/Viggo, Orlando/Johnny Depp, Orlando/Eric Bana Author on LJ: autumnaugur (If anyone knows if/where the author has moved, I'll update this) Author Website: Unknown Why this must be read: Orlando has a theory (and it doesn't include bunnies). It's quite an interesting theory, actually, and it explains a lot about why he does and doesn't relate to certain people. This fic is short, but the writing is sharp and evocative and, of course, I'm in love with the section about Viggo. Didn't everybody want Viggo? Didn't every tribe need a shaman/artist? And Viggo had whispered all of the right words, known so many secrets, and tasted like the afterlife when he'd slipped his tongue into Orlando's mouth.Mother Tongue

Fandom: LOTRiPS Pairing: Billy/Dom Author on LJ: sassywitchAuthor Website:http://sassywitch.livejournal.com/52570.html Why this must be read:It's an adaptation of a series of romance novels. So if you are not into that genre, this won't be your cup of tea. But if you are, it has the plot lines and the fun of a good romance novella. I haven't read the novels that were adapted so I can't compare. It's a fluff, mellow read. The best thing for the long days of summer by the pool. It's long and full of twists and turns. I'm linking to the epilogue where all the chapters are listed. Cowboy and Archaeologists

Fandom: LOTRiPS Pairing: BillyDom (Monaboyd) Author on LJ: dylan_dufresneAuthor Website: ? This must be read: Since the World Cup has ended. AU. Adapted from a book the author read years ago. Billy's a sports physician who's just moved back to Glasgow after an extended absence. Dom is a star football player who's recovering from an injury. Doctor and patient meet, and sparks fly. It's romantic,a little fluffy but keeps your interest till the end. Fatherhood, Football, and Other Contact SportsI'll be driving the LOTRiPS van this month. I mostly read Monaboyd fic with a dash of Orlijah.

Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Various Author on LJ: cynical_terror and dmbdragonflyAuthor Website: Cynical Terror and CopaceticWhy this must be read: It's a story. And a game. It's choose-your-own-adventure and it'll keep you both guessing and on the edge of your seat. It's period and atmospheric and it doesn't pull its punches. And it's the closest I'm going to come to reccing a vid this month. Go on and discover its world. You can come back to ours. Eventually. The Identity Code

Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Viggo Mortensen/Elijah Wood Author on LJ: _grievousangelAuthor Website: Stories of Love and DepravityWhy this must be read: This is probably one of the most serious and tone-accurate AUs in the fandom. And if that isn't enough, the writing is also trememdously good. Initially set just post-WWI, over the course of the four 'books' _grievousangel divides the narrative into, we get to see the central relationship mature and change in relation and in reaction to the prevalent attitudes toward homosexuality and the events that changed the world in the 1920s, '30s and '40s. |
Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Billy Boyd/Dominic Monaghan Author on LJ: strawberryelfspAuthor Website FruitionWhy this must be read: Good, complex stuff set in Ireland in the Spring of 1922. Which, y'know, does not make for terribly happy times. But this is lovely. Despite and because of that. Dilse

I've been playing in the 'realistic' side of the fandom. Now let's look at some AUs. Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Billy Boyd/Dominic Monaghan Author on LJ: apple_piAuthor Website: Slice of PiWhy this must be read: It's the Middle Ages. Dom is a monastery-raised orphan who wants to be a physician. Billy is the man with a past who he falls in love with against all good sense. There's lots of angst and the Black Death, plus the sexual use of Latin. Taking Breath

Forgive me for my disappearance from reccing for the past week or so, I've been rather unexpectedly without net access. I'm planning to make up for it tonight, so hold on to the hand-grips and enjoy the ride! Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Dominic Monaghan/Billy Boyd or multiple hobbits(as quoth the author) Author on LJ: mirabile_dictuAuthor Website: Anonymity As A RefugeWhy this must be read: What if one of the fellowship dropped out? How would that affect all the rest of them? This is probably my favorite of Mirabile Dictu's stories that hasn't been recced before and it is, as always, beautiful and complicated. Read. Virtuous Men

Title: Dual Citizenship/Favor/Keeping Faith by Telesilla and Darkrosetiger Pairing: (implied Viggo Mortensen/Sean Bean) Lucius Malfoy/Severus Snape Author on LJ: darkrosetiger and telesillaAuthor Website: these are my storiesWhy this must be read: Crossing Harry Potter with LotRiPS is perhaps an obvious temptation, but done well it's one that can be quite worth giving into. This story falls into the latter category. It's good Viggo Mortensen gen. Which works with his anti-war stance. And takes things in the post-HBP wizarding world in interesting and believeable directions. *It should be noted that this plays with timelines a bit. In a way that's fairly consistent with the school that writes fic based on the books as though they're taking place in the present day. I think it succeeds in its aim. Dual Citizenship/ Favor/ Keeping Faith

Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: N/A Author on LJ: N/A Author Website: UnimaginedWhy this must be read: We've all been there: the sudden, can't-get-enough blush of falling into a new fandom. But what if your fandom was actually your life? How would that change the way you saw the people who inhabited it? A Sudden Case of Slash
|
Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Billy Boyd/Dominic Momaghan Author on LJ: sunsetmogAuthor Website: Angel InterceptingWhy this must be read: I started reading this because it scratched my meta itch. I kept on because it did it well, managing to fold plenty of other stuff into what could've been just one more tale of slashees reacting to the slash that's been written about them. It's still one of my all-time favourites in that genre. And, yeah, this is the first piece of LotRiPS sunsetmog ever wrote, but she was just as fun and deft as she is now. The Billy Series

Hi y'all! My name's Kat and I'll be your LotRiPS driver on crack_van this month. I have what I hope will be an interesting set of recs planned out - but that's getting ahead of myself. For now, let's just focus on today's rec. Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Billy Boyd/Dominic Monaghan (Billy/Ali, Dom/Evie) Author on LJ: philomelAuthor Website: The Nightingale's TongueWhy this must be read: This story is what I would call a True Thing. And not because the world portrayed within it comes rather closer to the real one than most fanfic(though it could certainly be said to do so). But because it tells practical, emotional truths - and beautifully. It hurts. It's a speech in a play or a letter never sent, the midnight discourse of a man who would know himself. It may be a small thing, but in that it's as large as its players. And it certainly derserves your attention as much as they do. So, without further ado, let me present to you: Zenith and Nadir
|
Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Elijah Wood/Orlando Bloom Author on LJ: cupiscentAuthor Website: Furtive ScribblingsWhy this must be read: The imagery in this is simple but effective; it's absolutely lovely, in a jaded, bittersweet kind of way that manages not to leave a nasty after-taste in your mouth despite the evocative title. "Smoke" is a long-time favourite of mine. SmokeThat's it for me this month. *prods everyone* If you want Lotrips to keep on truckin' as a fandom on crack_van, you need to go and sign up as a reccer. There's currently no one signed up for next month, so don't leave the job to someone else. Do you fannish duty! Pimp your favourites! Make friends and influe... okay, enough with the hyperbole. Just do it, okay? :)
|
Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Elijah Wood/Orlando Bloom Author on LJ: summerflingAuthor Website: MemoriesWhy this must be read: "Steel" uses a kind of Sliding Doors premise that just works and works. It's beautifully written and wonderfully poignant, opening up a could-have-been scenario that's heart-breakingly realistic. Steel
