6th-Mar-2007 09:21 pm Regarding Elijah by Sophrosyne (NC-17)
I promised I'd try my best to rec some other pairings... This one definitely deserves it!

Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Dom/Elijah
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sophrosyne31
Author Website: LJ memories

Why this must be read: This is just such a beauty, it'd be a shame to pass it up because of a pairing bias. Images painted with words, the sensation of helplessly falling and the warmth of trees in the sun. Simply beautiful, stunning even.

Pairing: Billy/Dom
Ratings and Warnings: R/NC-17 for violence, language and sex. Character death!
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kiltsandlollies
Author Website: Poking Badgers with Spoons
Why this must be read: Billy is an inspector and Dom is a thief. It starts as some dark but mostly very sexy drabbles, but then develops into so much more - 21 gut-wrenching parts and several extras set in the same universe.

To me, this is the mother of all angst-ridden but absolutely irresistible AUs. [livejournal.com profile] kiltsandlollies wrote a whole world and flawed but wonderful characters just waiting to break your heart. Exquisitely painful.

Good morning! I'm Shirasade and will be your driver for the Lotrips fandom this month. I've never done this before, but I'll do my best to entertain you. I apologize in advance for the single-mindedness with which I will rec Billy/Dom. What can I say? I'm an OTP kinda girl... However, I do promise to try my best to post some other pairings as well. :)

Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Billy/Dom
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hackthis
Author Website: dysfunctional / LJ memories

Why this must be read: This story was one of the reasons I fell in love with the Billy/Dom pairing. Technically it's a songfic for the John Mayer song of the same name. Mainly, however, it's a gorgeous Billy POV, set during filming and showing the sweet progression of a love story in a series of 5 memories.

Why this must be read:

This one was written (for me!) as a part of the 2005 [livejournal.com profile] slashababy challenge, so I'm excited to rec it. Anyone that has any passing knowledge of Billy/Dom fic should recognize Pi's name - she's one of the fandom's most solid writers. This fic is everything that a comfort fic should be to me. It's sweet and sexy and leaves me with a good feeling that lasts all day.

Why this must be read:

This is the Billy/Dom AU that blew all others out of the water. Billy is a cruise ship lounge singer, and Dom is the burnt out social worker that catches his eye. People have filled pages describing how wonderful this story is, but rather than do that I'd just ask you to read it yourself! Twenty chapters of the best writing and characterization in fandom.

(She's also just begun posting the WIP sequel, so check out her journal for that once you're done with this.)

Hey there. I'll be your lotrips reccer this month. This month's theme is "Really old-skool stuff that I can't believe hasn't been recced yet" This first one, posted one chapter every other day, kept me riveted through a dull semester in early 2002.

Fandom: LoTRiPS
Pairing: Karl/Dom (mostly)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] azewewish
Author Website: Broadwriting
Why this must be read:
As the author warns, this is dark. Really dark. But fascinating, nonetheless.
Dom and Orli have a bet to see who can get more male members of the cast into sexual situations. Dom decides to take on Karl as his next challenge. This backfires in a big bad way because it turns out that Karl is into Dom, power games, and getting exactly what he wants.
Whether you're into power play or not, the dynamic that evolves between these two characters is the sort of thing you can't tear your eyes away from. Aside from the sex, the psychology of it will keep you turning the page.
The reader should, however, be warned that at points the issue of consent in this story is cloudy at best.

Why this must be read:http://monaboyd.net/pi/

A very nice Monaboyd AU set in Glasgow where Billy owns a kilt shop and Dom needs one for a special occasion. This is not a serious fic. It's a fun Dom and Billy what if. Great to curl up with a nice cup of tea.

Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Orlando/Viggo
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] cynical_terror
Author Website: http://cynical-terror.livejournal.com/203052.html#cutid1
Why this must be read:

An AU set in present day New York. Orlando is beset with a rare skin disease which makes even the simplest of tasks painfully arduous.Beyond shy, he has few friends, but one unusual Wednesday morning on the subway will change everything...

This is a totally AU and some OOC settings but it's good melodrama fluff. I very rarely stick with WIP but I kept up with this one because it somehow hit all my buttons. Most of the cast is there. I especially liked Liv and Sean. Yes it's romantic fluff and Orlando is just OOC but it's good romantic fluff. And sometimes you need a good romantic story to curl up with. I'm not a big Viggorli fan but I liked this one.

Fandom: LotRiPS
Pairing: Dom/Billy
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dashery
Author Website: None
Why this must be read:

I'll warn upfront that this fic was written for my birthday, so it's possible that I may be a little biased, but I honestly don't think so. It's pure, unadulterated smut, but it's so perfectly written - [livejournal.com profile] dashery has an amazing handle on Dom and Billy's voices, and everything they say sounds completely in character.

"Tell me something you’ve never told me before," Dom says as he shucks off his jeans and slides into Billy’s bed. "Something kinky."

"Hmm," Billy scratches his chin thoughtfully. "Sometimes, when you’ve gone a day or so without shaving, you remind me of my gran."

Fandom: LotRiPS
Pairing: Viggo/Elijah
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] saklani2 and [livejournal.com profile] wushu76
Author Website: Saklani's Wilderness
Why this must be read:

I'll be the first to admit that this fic is more than a little schmoopy, but it's also pretty damn funny.

Viggo lifted a tomato and regarded it with utmost seriousness, before putting it aside and picking up another that looked almost identical. Apparently, this one contained the right mystic aura, for Viggo put it in the cart.

Elijah looked at Viggo choosing the tomato, and then picked up the one in the cart and the rejected one. He studied them intently for a moment before asking, "What's the difference?"

Viggo pointed to the chosen one. "That one wanted to be a part of the pasta dish I'm making tonight."

Fandom: LotRiPS
Pairing: Viggo/Elijah
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] traveller
Author Website: manifesto no. 2
Why this must be read:

I think I've recced something by [livejournal.com profile] traveller every time I've been behind the wheel of the van. I love the way this fic captures a kind of longing on Viggo's part for something that he used to have; something that Elijah has a bit of now. I enjoy the way New York is portrayed, like a character in its own right (and that's one of this author's talents -- taking cities, places and atmospheres and making them absolutely integral to the story). It's a fic that feels bittersweet without being either bitter or sweet. It's not simple, that's for sure.

Viggo's thinking about being twenty and getting fucked in the bathroom at Irving Plaza during a Tom Waits show; he's thinking that there was a time when slumming had its own integrity. His hands are unbuttoning Lij's jeans.

Hi, I'm cat. You might have seen me driving the van before (three times for LotRiPS, once for LotR). I'm still a Viggo/Orlando girl, but I'm going to try to mix it up as best I can this month, although I make no promises. ;)

Fandom: LotRiPS
Pairing: Orlando/Viggo, Orlando/Johnny Depp, Orlando/Eric Bana
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] autumnaugur (If anyone knows if/where the author has moved, I'll update this)
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:

Orlando has a theory (and it doesn't include bunnies). It's quite an interesting theory, actually, and it explains a lot about why he does and doesn't relate to certain people. This fic is short, but the writing is sharp and evocative and, of course, I'm in love with the section about Viggo.

Didn't everybody want Viggo? Didn't every tribe need a shaman/artist? And Viggo had whispered all of the right words, known so many secrets, and tasted like the afterlife when he'd slipped his tongue into Orlando's mouth.

Fandom: LOTRiPS
Pairing: Billy/Dom
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] sassywitch
Author Website:http://sassywitch.livejournal.com/52570.html
Why this must be read:

It's an adaptation of a series of romance novels. So if you are not into that genre, this won't be your cup of tea. But if you are, it has the plot lines and the fun of a good romance novella. I haven't read the novels that were adapted so I can't compare. It's a fluff, mellow read. The best thing for the long days of summer by the pool. It's long and full of twists and turns.

I'm linking to the epilogue where all the chapters are listed.

This must be read:

Since the World Cup has ended.

AU. Adapted from a book the author read years ago. Billy's a sports physician who's just moved back to Glasgow after an extended absence. Dom is a star football player who's recovering from an injury. Doctor and patient meet, and sparks fly. It's romantic,a little fluffy but keeps your interest till the end.

Why this must be read: It's a story. And a game. It's choose-your-own-adventure and it'll keep you both guessing and on the edge of your seat. It's period and atmospheric and it doesn't pull its punches. And it's the closest I'm going to come to reccing a vid this month.

Why this must be read: This is probably one of the most serious and tone-accurate AUs in the fandom. And if that isn't enough, the writing is also trememdously good. Initially set just post-WWI, over the course of the four 'books' [livejournal.com profile] _grievousangel divides the narrative into, we get to see the central relationship mature and change in relation and in reaction to the prevalent attitudes toward homosexuality and the events that changed the world in the 1920s, '30s and '40s.

Why this must be read: It's the Middle Ages. Dom is a monastery-raised orphan who wants to be a physician. Billy is the man with a past who he falls in love with against all good sense. There's lots of angst and the Black Death, plus the sexual use of Latin.

Pairing: (implied Viggo Mortensen/Sean Bean) Lucius Malfoy/Severus Snape
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] darkrosetiger and [livejournal.com profile] telesilla
Author Website: these are my stories
Why this must be read: Crossing Harry Potter with LotRiPS is perhaps an obvious temptation, but done well it's one that can be quite worth giving into. This story falls into the latter category.

It's good Viggo Mortensen gen. Which works with his anti-war stance. And takes things in the post-HBP wizarding world in interesting and believeable directions.

*It should be noted that this plays with timelines a bit. In a way that's fairly consistent with the school that writes fic based on the books as though they're taking place in the present day. I think it succeeds in its aim.

It's still one of my all-time favourites in that genre.

Fandom: LotRiPS
Pairing: Billy Boyd/Dominic Monaghan (Billy/Ali, Dom/Evie)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] philomel
Author Website: The Nightingale's Tongue
Why this must be read: This story is what I would call a True Thing. And not because the world portrayed within it comes rather closer to the real one than most fanfic(though it could certainly be said to do so). But because it tells practical, emotional truths - and beautifully. It hurts. It's a speech in a play or a letter never sent, the midnight discourse of a man who would know himself.

It may be a small thing, but in that it's as large as its players. And it certainly derserves your attention as much as they do. So, without further ado, let me present to you:
