12:48 am Things that Haunt Us by Eleanor K
Title: Series: Things that Haunt Us
Fandom: Firefly
Pairing: Mal/Simon
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] emungere
Author Website: Consequence Free

Why this must be read: The whole series is great, but the first story "Fuzzy" is awesome. Nothing could be more fun than drunken Mal bantering with a very amused Simon. Great characterization and a light tone with just the right hints of darkness. You get a really good sense of why these character like each other and why they are destined to drive each other mad. The series loosely follows some of the episodes, but it's easy to follow even if you haven't seen the show. What are you waiting for? Go read about the pretty boys.

01:20 am The Fair by Maystone
Title: The Fair
Fandom: Firefly
Pairing: mostly Gen, but a little Mal/Inara and Simon/Kaylee
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] maystone

Why this must be read: Recommending het is a bit painful for me, but this is a really good story that actually makes me love Inara. She just wants to a normal girl and get the guy. All of Maystone's stories are written well with compelling plots and good character voices. Stories like hers are the next best thing to seeing the actual show. She even puts in hoyay sometimes:) Go read. Love Kaylee. Love Inara. Give them big hugs, but make sure they understand that they can't have Mal and Simon.

11:00 am Discoveries by JustVisiting (PG-13)
Title: Discoveries
Fandom: Enterprise
Pairing: Reed/Sato
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] justvisitingnow, but I think she's friends-only.
Author website: What little is still online can be found at The Linguistics Database, or by trying a web search.

Why this must be read: JV is easily one of the best writers in the fandom and you simply must read this story for the sheer storytelling ability. Of course, I'm also a sucker for a good Hoshi story, so that doesn't hurt either ;)

But Discoveries was probably the first Enterprise fic I read that was good science fiction as opposed to only a romance novel in science fiction guise. There is a romance in this story, but JV has also created a fascinating alien world, populated it with an alien species, and given the ship's linguist a true challenge. Beautiful and poignant, this story will bring a tear to your eye and make you wonder why exactly the author hasn't been hired by Paramount to write for the show.

12:55 pm Relief by Calico (NC 17)
Previously on Popslash: "'Well, it could be a marketing thing,' JC said. 'You'd be our pretty young virgin, and all the girls would hope that they'd get to be the one, you know.'"

Today on Popslash: Relief (A kind of relentless NC-17ness that other fics only dream of achieving.)

Fandom: Popslash
Pairing: Group Slut Fic (GSF)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ukcalico
Author Website: Temporary Insanity
Why this must be read:

I got an email yesterday that read, in essence, "Rec more sex! Sexsexsexandhello?SexwithJoeysex! Please? Thanks!" Heh. Dude, who am I to refuse a request like that?

Relief -- in which the *Nsync-ers each wager $10 grand that they can remain abstinent the longest -- is a brilliant story that goes above-and-beyond in fulfilling the criteria listed in that email.

First, there's sex. It's not a PWP, but... there's definitely sex. A lot of sex, even. And some of this large amount of sex? Includes Joey, who I know has been under-represented in these reccings thus far. Secondly, it's a story by [livejournal.com profile] ukcalico meaning that this sex, which at times includes Joey? Is wickedly hot. And, finally -- while wicked hotness is, of course, enough to recommend any story -- Relief is snarky, hilarious, and fun. Lance is at his most cunningly devious here, Chris at his most endearingly annoying, and Joey, JC, and Justin are just trying desperately to maintain any small sliver of self-control. You can probably guess how well they succeed.

Go!

Wednesday on Popslash: "Wade is perfectly well aware that everybody hates him."

**Apologies for not following the 'Next On' quote from my previous post. Indecision rules my life.**

12:58 pm Crashing with the Waves by Anna-Maria Jennings
Title:Crashing With the Waves
Fandom: Sports Night
Pairing: Dan Rydell/Casey McCall
Author Anna-Maria Jennings
Author website:Website
Why this must be read: Full of Dan angst, and the corresponding Casey care, "Crashing" tells the story of a random act of violence, and the recovery period after.
All of the characters are well written, and come of the page like real people. It's a terrific representative of H/C in the fandom.

07:39 pm Reconciliation by Jennifer-Oksana (NC-17)
Fandom: Angel the Series.
Title: Reconciliation.
Pairing: Angel/Cordelia, Buffy/Xander, Connor/Other, Fred/Other, Giles/Anya, Gunn/Fred, Spike/Anya, Wesley/Lilah, Xander/Anya.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jennyo
Author Website: I'm Just Sayin'
Why this must be read: Because this story is a *kick.* Epic plot, spot-on characterization, and rapid-fire dialogue that brings piles of the funny.

This story was written between seasons three and four, so it has higher being Cordy, a Connor with his memories intact, and evil power couple Wesley/Lilah alive and well. A lot of the character developments and plot twists, however, were predicted with remarkable accuracy. The portrayal of Lilah, in particular, is perfection. And nothing's more fun than an ass-kicking, snarktastic Lilah.
