Author Website: The Pearl
Why this must be read:

In short: Rogue tries to convince her teammates that she's a lesbian. Of course, said teammates believe that this is merely the result of her having absorbed the memories of several men. Wackiness, as they say, ensues.

No matter how many times I read this story, it still makes me snicker. Short, sweet, and great for a giggle.

Fandom: Farscape
Pairings: John/Aeryn
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rubberneck
Author's Website: fanfic by feldman
Why this must be read:

This is an AU set in S2 happening during Out of their minds. This is a HARD NC-17 rating for sexual content. Actually if this was ever filmed it would probably be of the X-rated variety. This is one of those fics you do not read at work, rather you should print out and read in the privacy of your own home, under the blankets, with a flashlight. So you have been warned. Read at your own discretion.
Cut for those who have not gotten to this point in S2 )

08:14 pm Deconstructing Brian by Randall Morgan (NC-17)
Fandom: Queer as Folk USA

Pairing: Brian/Justin

Author on LJ: unknown

Author Website: http://randall.irishcaelan.com/index.php

Why this must be read:

Deconstructing Brian is one of the major works that I read when I first entered the QaF fandom. I remember staying up until ungodly hours of the morning, absolutely riveted. This intricately plotted, emotionally turbulent examination of all things Brian is definitely an experience. It has all of the elements of prime escapist fiction: high drama, angst, and romance that defies all obstacles. Oh yeah, and it's absolutely epic in scale. There's even a sequel, Reconstructing Brian. A couple of things to be aware of before reading: the characterizations are very much Season One Brian and Justin. Also, an original male character is featured prominently throughout the story and does become an issue for the B/J relationship. Rest assured, Brian and Justin are together at the end of this fic, but if OMCs irk you, I'd suggest steering clear. Other than that, the premise is quite interesting: this is an alternate universe where Brian ends up taking a job in New York City, leaving Pittsburgh (and Justin) behind. While in New York, Brian begins to see a therapist, Lydia Johnson. Much of the story is presented as the sessions between Brian and Lydia, and it's fascinating to see Brian and company through the eyes of an impartial observer. All in all, an absorbing read.

08:40 pm Borrowed Time by Nicholas Leifker aka Nightelf (R)
Fandom: RANMA 1/2
Pairing: Ranma Saotome/Akane Tendo, Mousse/Shampoo, Kasumi Tendo/Dr. Tofu
Warning: character death
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Nightelf's Elysium
Why this must be read:

Nightelf explores Amazon ideals, comparing and contrasting with the practical equality and power some the Japanese female characters have in the Ranmaverse. A law's intent and letter are not always the same.

Not a happy story, but well-crafted.

08:57 pm Promised Eternity by setissma (NC-17)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Remus/Sirius
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] setissma
Author Website: Author page at Skyehawke
Why this must be read:

I wanted to leave you with something a little more upbeat as my last rec of the month, since there was a bit of angst, wasn't there? Remus is made for the suffering. Anyway, this is a beautiful story, one I reread whenever I need a good, happy cry.

After the battle at the Department of Mysteries, Remus makes some promises to himself.

This story is quite possibly my favorite Bring Back Black fic. It doesn't really talk about how Sirius came back, and though it gives the veil an intriguing purpose, it's not about that, either, really, so much as it is about Remus and Sirius both learning to take advantage of the second chances they're granted, and the love that's been there all along.

Beautiful, heartbreaking, and hopeful, this story makes my chest tight and my eyes tear.
