Vidder: Janis Cortese Musical artist: Poe Pairing: Archie/Horatio Vidder on LJ: corteseVidder's website: http://www.io.com/~cortese/stories/Why this vid kicks ass: Cortese warns, "this was a wrenching vid to create and if I've done my job right, will be wrenching to watch," and is she ever right. This vid is gut-wrenching, yet heartbreakingly beautiful, rather like the Archie/Horatio pairing can be actually. Using footage mostly from The Duchess & The Devil and Retribution, Cortese captures the essence of Archie/Horatio at its most bittersweet. The juxtaposition of lyrics and imagery is excellent throughout, evocative without being heavy-handed. The cuts are timed well both to the music and to the material and her sparingly used effects add to the overall impact of the vid without calling attention to themselves. Really, this is vidding at it's finest and the result is simply stunning. 5 1/2 Minute Hallway

Fandom: The O.C. Pairing: Seth/Ryan Author on LJ: regala_electraWhy this really should be read: Ah, the other type of hiatus fic. Between the O.C.'s 7th and 8th episode there were weeks and weeks and seeming weeks and many many wonderful stories filling the gap of what might have happened after Ryan carried Marissa's O.D'ed self out of that alley in Mexico. This one is hard and hot and angry, Seth attempting to comfort Ryan the night after. Rendered AU by the darned show, it's still a great slice of Ryan and Seth from the beginning, with the dark and the angst and the humor and the slash. We begin: It's easy to track Ryan in Tijuana. He doesn't need insider info, a spy network, or even pure luck. He just enters the hotel room and sees Ryan slumped against a wall, a beer bottle in his hand.Dìa de los Muertos - Mood: awake

Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: None; Gen Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: Unknown Why this must be read: With so many combat vets in the crew of the Serenity, it's a wonder that there aren't more attempts to fill the blanks of what everyone went through during the war. This is Jayne's war story, and it would explain much about his character and behavior if it were true. Turn Away

Fandom: Farscape Pairing: None Author on LJ: none that I know of Author Website: n/a Why this must be read:Every now and then you need something sweet. Not saccharine sweet that will rot your teeth and give you diabetes but something that in the end will bring a smile to your face. This is one of those stories. It always leaves me all warm and fuzzy without making me choke on hairballs. It has John and D'Argo, fighting and stupid plans. It's short and sweet, in all the best ways. The beginning is a little rough, narrative wise, but the author overcomes that quickly. It was written well before S4 appeared so is technically spoiler (although not speculation) free. Can be considered a FutureFic. Excerpt: ( Read more... )The Smile

Fandom: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Pairing: Andrew/Spike Author on LJ: Author Website: http://www.ficbitch.com/addiction/Why this must be read: So far this month I've done recs for a Spike vid, and fic focused on Spike/Tara, Spike/Faith, and Spike/Buffy. So the theme of this month is obviously Andrew :) Ever wonder what it's like to be constantly over shadowed by the guy who summoned hellhounds to the prom? Andrew doesn't have to wonder - the only way anyone ever seems to recognise him is by his older brother's exploits. Spike and Andrew meet in a bar season 6/7, lovelorn and depressed. They can't be with the one they love, or love the one they're with. Tucker's Brother

Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: Napoleon/Illya Author on LJ: Not that I know of Author Website: None that I know of, but a couple of his MfU fics can be found at The Chrome and Gunmetal MadhouseWhy this must be read: Three reasons: characterization; descriptive detail; intensity of emotion. This one starts off at a sizzling temperature and only gets hotter. Winding down from a harrowing mission, Illya and Napoleon recall how it all started for them - the partnership, the easy and comfortable sense of belonging, the sex. Who can blame Napoleon for his leather fetish after what we learn here? ( Now here's a visual to stay with you )I hope you enjoy this story as much as I do. Leather

Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE Pairing: Gen, but this is a warm and lovely partnership story Author on LJ: ellessarettaAuthor Website: The author has an ezine Taken to the Cleaners and most of her work also appears on the gen page at File 40Why this must be read: Because Loretta does some of the best dialogue and relationship moments in the entire fandom, and her stories never fail to entertain. The stage is set for a poignant reunion when a long-lost and presumed dead Illya returns to UNCLE after a nightmare mission. Things have changed within UNCLE during the interim, leaving Illya feeling more than a little displaced - and he can't help but wonder whether his old partner has moved on as well. Is there still room for Illya in Napoleon's life? I hope you enjoy this story as much as I do. The Still the Same Affair

Fandom: LOTR Vidder: Kim and Cecilia Musical artist: Pennywise Pairing: None Vidder's website: Konnekted Twin Music VideosWhy this vid kicks ass:Eep. I know I missed posting this on Friday. Please don't shoot me. Had a difficult time choosing which LOTR vid to rec, as there are so many out there. Finally settled on this one, as I'm feeling in a humor mood. The song used isn't one I would have thought would work for LOTR, but oh, it does. Fast-paced, good edits, humor, it's all here. Bro Hymn

Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Gen (past Mal/Zoe mentioned briefly) Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: Nicole C.'s FanficWhy this must be read: The tight bond between Mal and Zoe is the basis for one of the most appealing relationships in Firefly. The ability of two very strong individuals to live and work as friends and comrades-in-arms is compelling emotionally and dramatically. Zoe's strength (of character, will, and body) make her one of my favorite fictional female characters, and in this short piece you get to see the dynamic up close during a stressful experience.
