Fandom: POPSLASH (NSync) Pairing: Chris/Lance (with a smidgen of Chris/JC) Author on LJ: sola_fiammaAuthor Website: When Wrong Feels RightWhy this must be read: Thanks to erilyn for reminding me how much I love this story. For the Popslash familar amongst you, it should be enough to say that I adore this fic even though I really do not like Chris/Lance stories. However this one had me entranced from start to finish - I loved the Chris/Lance interaction here - and the other boys too. Plus Chris calls Lance a mean old cross-dressing biker’s bitch. How can you go past that? Something More

Fandom: FARSCAPE Pairing: Aeryn Sun Author on LJ: suelac Author Website: alchemy mouldiwarps and coprophagyWhy this must be read: In Xenophilia, rated R for "graphic angst," Cofax tackles an extremely sensitive topic that every woman hopes never to have to face. This controversial AU fic (either hailed as an unflinching-yet-compassionate dark work or reviled as abhorrent and completely out-of-character) picks up the storyline after a devastating revelation made in the third season fnale, episode 3.22, Dog With Two Bones--though familiarity with the storyline or episode is not necessary. She is alone and there is no room for a baby in a Prowler. Xenophilia

Fandom: FARSCAPE Pairing: John Crichton, Aeryn Sun, original character Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: http://myscape.50megs.com Why this must be read: Analise has created a marvelous original character who is the key to this AU, Earth-based fic's storyline. It is well-plotted and fast-paced, with great tenderness amidst ever-increasing danger, and angst that is heartfelt but not overdone. The ending keeps in mind that the reader will have become greatly attached to the characters, and adheres to Farscape's thematic tradition of never abandoning hope. Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Mal/Kaylee Author on LJ: moonwhipAuthor’s Website: moonwhip.netWhy this must be read: I like the Mal/Kaylee relationship--whether it be friendship, or romance--but it isn’t often that I see fanfic centered around them, together. This is a beautiful example of what can be done with these two characters, wistful and hopeful all at once. "What're you doing, Kaylee?" he asked. Reached out and straightened the fall of the cloth over her collarbone. Silky under his fingers, warmed by her skin right underneath it. A dress Inara had worn, once? Or had she just bought it for Kaylee?
She shrugged. Her shoulder bumped his hand. "Don't know," she said. "That kinda depends on what you're doing."
"You know what."
"Can't say as I do," she said cheerfully, but her hands were twisting together in front of her belly.
"I'm staying here," he said.
"Guess I am, too." so longso long: coda

Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: dominic monaghan/elijah wood Author on LJ: shaenieAuthor Website: Mindless Entertainment with Absolutely No Redeeming FeaturesWarnings: dark!fic Why this must be read: This is one of my favorite stories in the lotrips fandom. I'm not a big Elijah fan, but this fic, in my opinion, contains an incredibly believable Elijah. An Elijah created in light of the things we do know about him, instead of trying to shade in the things that we don't. He is dark and misshapen and almost without conscience. This is an Elijah who has spent his whole life being paid to be someone else, being told by PR and aesthetics to -be- someone else, be something marketable and noncontroversial and easy. While I have always been a fan of Dom, I don't think that bias has anything to do with loving the way she's written him in this fic. You can feel his warmth and his bitterness, his apathy. He is full and rounded and almost real enough to touch. This is a Dom who wants, or needs, enough to take anyway he can, even if that means things will never be quite right, quite real. The fic is a little dark, shadowed as it is by the wants and needs and idiosyncrasies of two people who are vastly different. One who understands and one who probably never will. Paid.
