Why this must be read:

Okay, I admit it. Mostly this should be read because it's really, really hot. the rest might be spoilery )

That's it. Read it because it's really well written (and very long) smut, in the best sense of the term.

Why this must be read:

A long story that takes its time to unfold each scene, this futurefic was written and posted before season 4 aired. It's impressive how well the characterizations still stand up. With only a few changes in events, I can still see the B/J relationship unfolding just like this.

Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn
Author Website: Livia's Library

Why this must be read:
Well, I think this was one of the very first Clex stories that I read, way back when, and pursuit of Livia's stories led me to discover Livejournal--she even offered me my first icon. So this one gets the nostalgia vote, and the first slot. (Sorry for the late start; I've been having computer problems at home combined with a heavy work load so that I couldn't play online during the work day.) Why do I like this story? There are several reasons: It's sweet, first-time, early Clex, and awkwardly hot, and it takes me back to the time that the guys had a less complicated relationship, untainted by suspicion and conflicts. I like that this Lex isn't experienced in the big gay sex; I like the Secret being revealed. I like the talk about books; that's a kink of mine, plus it presages the future Reporter!Clark. Finally, I love the youthful, less cynical Lex voice, and how we see him make choices that will change both their futures.

09:52 pm A Rumpus, A Ruckus, and Sancho Panza to the Rescue by Searose (PG-13)
Fandom: FARSCAPE
Pairing: ensemble cast
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] searose
Author Website: none
Why this must be read:

The fourth season finale of Farscape left viewers shell-shocked and/or wailing. Between that episode--which aired nearly two years ago--and the highly-anticipated miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars that is coming to the Sci-Fi channel on Oct.17-18, some of the best authors in Farscape fandom have picked up the storyline and run amok in AU /futurefic.

Searose's fabulous tale begins the very moment after the tag scene of episode 4.22, Bad Timing. In it, she weaves a complex (and complicated, like all Farscapean plans) adventure that juggles over a dozen canon and original characters in a tightly-paced plot that builds momentum like a juggernaut, careening inevitably toward the nail-biting climax. And then she throws in a brilliant, unexpected twist that absolutely makes a reader's hair stand on end.

09:58 pm Like a Bad Penney by Waldo (R)
Fandom: HORNBLOWER
Pairing: Horatio/Archie pre-slash
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kwaldo12
Author Website: Vid Weasel Homepage
Why this must be read:

This is one of the most believable Duel fics I've ever read. Waldo's characterization is dead-on, not to mention realistic for this point in the series. This piece deals with the issue of Jack Simpson and the reason Horatio chose to challenge him. Unrealized love plays as big a part in Horatio's choice as pride and honor, and it's both touching and convincing to see Horatio want to protect a deserving *person* rather than just his romantic property. Horatio's humanity, his compassion, and his logic are every bit as poignant and in character as Archie's optimism and the grace with which he bears his pain. In that scope of realism, Waldo comes closer to the H/A canon love story than many writers do; the more honest yet unspoken, the more the romance bleeds through every word.
