08:26 am Beneath the Harvest and Appearances by Candy Apple
Houses, that's a good theme, right? Well, that's the theme of the week, so let's go for it.

Fandom: Starsky/Hutch

Pairing: Starsky/Hutch

Fiction Website: http://www.squidge.org/~candy_a/starskyhutch.htm

Why this must be read: In Beneath The Harvest we get some supernatural goings-on. Simon Marcus is bad, really bad. He's like Manson's older brother, so really bad. He also haunts their dreams, even after he supposedly commits suicide in prison. Marcus influences their lives, controls their minds, and leads them down a path that is filled with twists and turns and a new development in where their relationship is headed. In Appearances, the situation continues. Simon's finally out of their lives and they're about to start on their new one, including moving into their new home. But nothing's really as simple as that, not when the boys are involved. There's a nosy neighbors, a murder investigation, and a memory from Hutch's past that is so shocking that you won't believe it. The universe is weaved so perfectly that you want to be a part of their lives, you want to live with them and experience all the joys and trials that they go through as they make a home for themselves.

But it's never going to be easy for these two. Anti-Seminism strikes too close to home and Starsky's put right into the middle of it. 05:48 pm The Last Virtue by Yahtzee (PG-13)
Fandom: Angel
Pairing: Mentions of Fred/Gunn, Angel/Cordelia, Cordelia/Connor
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63
Author Website: Yahtzee's Fic

Why this must be read: Because the most wonderful time of year to be Charles Gunn is always.

I love Gunn, and there's just not nearly enough fic written from his perspective. This story has the perfect mix of elements: Gunn's background and family, his problematic relationships with both Fred and Wesley, his perspective on the messed-up dynamics between Angel, Connor and Cordelia, and, of course, an Apocalypse. Also, the New Year's Eve moment with Angel? Absolutely priceless.

The world's ending. Everyone knows it. Everyone, that is, except fools, children and Mama Jeane. )

07:56 pm Par For The Course by Voleuse (G)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] voleuse
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read: This is a food-centric fic dealing mainly with Mal and Simon. It’s one of those slice-of-life stories that I really enjoy and you will to!

The first time Mal orders rationing, Simon almost doesn't comprehend what it means. The word is an abstract to him; it's a concept out of history textbooks and military accounts.

08:21 pm Girl Most Likely by Liz Barr (R)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: None (gen with Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny aspects)

Author Website: mirrorDance

Why this must be read:
From the author's summary: "Fifteen years after he defeated Voldemort, Harry Potter finds himself protecting Snape's daughter from an unknown threat. While Harry wrestles with his literal inner demons, Snape makes Veritaserum cocktails. Hermione saves the world. Neville saves the day. Everything gets dreadfully Freudian."

I liked this richly textured adventure story, and the OC (Snape's daughter, Lilith) is no Mary Sue. This is also equally about Harry, and his problems have very real foundations, but he has to get over them to help Lilith. The plot is the real attraction with this story, and the magical details flesh out the post-war tale. The Snape here is rather opaque as to motivation, but it works because he's who he is: distant, caring in a dutiful way, and busy with his own adult concerns as Headmaster of Hogwarts cum Death Eater hunter.

11:31 pm Dancing in the Dark by pepe (NC17)
Fandom: Stargate SG1
Pairing: Jack/Daniel
Author on LJ:
Author Website: Pepe's Place

Why this must be read: 2 best friends. 2 closets that are about to be forced open. One dance that will force them to see the other in a new light. One night that will make them realize what they mean to one another. It's a very romantic story, hot and sexy too. Pepe says that this was inspired by a real-life couple. And maybe, that's why this story resonates so much with me. Because it reminds me a bit of how I realized that I was falling in love with one of my best friends.
