Fandom: WEST WING
Pairing: Josh/Sam

Why this must be read:

I'm reccing this one just because 1. I really enjoyed it and 2. it does something I've not seen before. This was written for the sounds challenge, and the idea of trying to tell a story primarily in sound has worked out really well here, managing to be both an interesting story and a cool explanation of where the hell Sam was in Noel when Josh was having flashbacks.

Plus, I really like angsty Josh and Sam. Aaaaallll about the angsty Josh and Sam. And this is really good Josh and Sam - a take on them I've not quite seen anywhere before, and yet it works. (This is rare, as I am a One True Universe kind of girl when it comes to Josh and Sam, normally.) Mmm. I also feel the need to assure you that it's nicely written, and that's by the standards of an extraordinarily literate fandom.

11:58 am The Amazing Adventures Of Us by Kate Monster (PG)
Fandom: THE O.C.
Pairing: none, a Ryan and Seth friendship story
Author on LJ: ???
Author Website: Her Fanfiction.Net index
Why this must be read:

This story, set during season one between "The Heartbreak" and "The Telenovela", provides a believable idea of how Seth and Ryan got over the issue of disbelief on Seth's part. How they were able to recement their friendship and move on. The voices are dead on, Ryan's thoughts about friends he had prior to Seth and how they were different, and not as fun, struck me. I love the idea that Seth isn't the only one in their friendship who really never had a friend prior to meeting Ryan.

Plus, how can one resist any story that makes mention of both Red Dwarf and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay?

12:36 pm Scars by Siryn (PG-13)
Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Pairing: Jack/Will/Elizabeth
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] siryn99
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read:

"Every scar tells a story" begins this stunning gem of a fic, and for [livejournal.com profile] siryn99 the scars are the story. This is the story of three people who've lived very different lives but now find themselves drawn together -- united by their shared scars -- staring down an uncertain future. We see the threesome through Elizabeth's eyes and [livejournal.com profile] siryn99's Elizabeth is a very real and complex woman, sympathetic and secretive, frightened and bold and beautifully in-character.

01:45 pm Half Four by Shaenie (PG-13)
Fandom: LoTRIPS
Pairing: Orlando/Dom
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] shaenie
Author Website:Mindless Entertainment with Absolutely No Redeeming Features

Why this must be read: I'm a sucker for "the morning after the night before" type fics. I'm also a sucker for every single story [livejournal.com profile] shaenie has written in this fandom. Combine these two obsessions into one story, add a huge dollop of humor, and you've made me a very happy fangirl.

"Half Four" is set from Orlando's perspective as he and Dom try to remember what exactly they had gotten into during their drinking binge the night before. It's not to be missed. It's also not to be read while trying to consume any type of beverage...you've been warned.

04:48 pm Left by Resonant (NC-17)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Ray Vecchio/Ray Kowalski
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] resonant8
Author Website: in media Res

Why this must be read:
This story and the next one I'll rec both have some sentimental value to me as stories that helped me fall for the pairing. Resonant is a fantastic writer, and most dS slash fans will have read her Fraser/RayK stories. But I am thinking that a few people might not have read her Ray/Ray stories yet, and this one holds a special place in my heart because it was the one that made me love the pairing and seek out more. I had read a few Ray/Ray stories that had piqued my interest, but "Left" was the conversion story for me. (Actually, Resonant was the writer who sucked me into the due South fandom when I hadn't even seen the show.)

09:55 pm This Apocalypse Ain't Kind by Lise (PG13)
Fandom: CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION
Pairing: Nick Stokes/Greg Sanders
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] goldatamera
Author Website: none
Why this must be read:

The A Thousand Whispers: The CSI T.S. Eliot Challenge produced a number of good stories, and this is one of them. Continuing with the whole 'dark and disturbing' theme I seem to be setting up here, as the title suggests this story is set in a post apocalyptic nightmare. Society has broken down, not with a bang but a whimper, and Greg and Nick are caught up in the aftermath, simply trying to survive.

The author handles this scenario well, with angst and drama aplenty but thankfully no melodrama. From the very first paragraph, the imagery used is stark and intense, and it draws you in, holding you there to the bitter end. The characterisation well balanced and the way the author cuts between the past and the present, showing how Nick and Greg get to where they are, is done extremely well. It successfully builds up the sense of claustrophobia, which is no mean feat when the present is set in the desert.

The city is burning. )

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Ray Vecchio/Ray Kowalski
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] laurakaye

Why this must be read:
The cuteness of Ray dancing, the wonderful RayK POV, the beginning with the cop stuff, the hotness of the sex--all these things make me love this story.
