Fandom: Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sensine
Author Website: one of her new year resolutions! She does bookmark her fic in her LJ memories.
Why this must be read:

This story is heaps of fun. It gleefully embraces the 'undercover-as-a-gay-couple' theme, and livens it up with an entertaining cast of hippy youngsters, mind-altering drugs galore, Illya's hilarious attempts at beat poetry, and cheeky banter between the two agents.

Poor Napoleon, accustomed to tuxedos and martinis, is the fish out of water as he grapples with Illya's bisexuality, their too-cosy sleeping arrangements, the absence of cufflinks and ties in his new wardrobe, and the preparations required to make chicken salad. Not to mention a Thrush plot to brainwash young people and an annoying rival for Illya's affections. And the missing hair oil.

Illya, on the other hand, has a whale of a time.

03:29 pm Shadow of the Trojan Horse by Jean Graham (G)

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] vilakins AKA Nico, and I'm your Blake's 7 driver for this month. I haven't driven the van before, so bear with me; I'll try not to swerve on the corners.

Fandom: BLAKE'S 7
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Blake's 7 Stories
Why this must be read:

I enjoy Avon and Vila's relationship in the first three seasons. They're both complex, intelligent, and witty people, and their relationship is similar, a subtle one hidden behind a mask of insulting banter. They're almost opposites in some ways (an extrovert to whom people are more important than anything else, and an introvert who would prefer a universe without them, but ends up liking a few of them against his will) and so alike in others (their love of games, words--and crime).

This story shows this odd friendship well, and it also has an interesting plot with hints at aspects of the Federation grading system. Avon and Vila are having another go at the Federation banking system in between insulting each other when the alarms go off. Avon chooses to stay, and though Vila at first is unwilling to leave him, he flees, evading the 'wasp' security flyer. Avon isn't so lucky, but Vila shows the bravery he's capable of when there's no-one else to be the hero. As ever, neither likes to express what they feel, but some of their words are revealing.

"Come on, Avon. Don't die on me now. Who would I swap insults with then?"
Back on the Liberator, Avon's one word, "Quite," speaks volumes. And at the very end, he thanks Vila. From Avon, that does indeed make it all worthwhile.

Fandom Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Pairing Bobby Goren/Alex Eames
Author on LJ [livejournal.com profile] daygloparker
Author Website my muse wears prada.
Why this must be read

Chances are, if you've been in this fandom for more than a month or two, you've been directed to this story as the best possible way to write a Goren/Eames relationship, and that's because it's absolutely, completely, and utterly true.

Goren is mentally unstable, but Eames is not a bastion of normalcy herself, and this story relishes Eames' issues, with relationships, with her job, and with Goren. Tahlia gives us a look at Eames' history, and the way that affects her relationships. She's a strong woman, one of the strongest female characters I've ever run into, and she has to be in order to stand up to the hurricane force that is Bobby Goren. But how does her strength hold up in the rest of her life?
