10:12 am Highlander/Simpsons (PG)
Title: The Springfielder, by Don Lloyd
Pairing: None
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: I just about died laughing when this was first posted way back in the day; Don gets all the characters dead on and the in-jokes are great. Now, if only he'd write a Highlander/South Park crossover... ("You killed Kenny! You bastards!) Go! Read!

[Apu] "I am Apu, chief regional Slushie maker for the chain of Kwiki-Mart. I have come to be teaching you what you are needing to know. You, Homer Simpson, are immortal and cannot die.'

[Homer] "Woohooo!"

[Apu] "Excepting in de case in which your head is being removed from your shoulders. In the end, there can be being only one."

[Homer] "D'oh!"

Title: A Critique Of Pure Reason
Pairing: Dom Monaghan/Xander Harris, Dom/Billy
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] annakovsky
Author Website: annakovsky.dream-country.net
Why this must be read:

I'll be honest... I don't get Joss!verse. Wasn't into Buffy. Barely watched Angel... but I loved this story. Kovsky just fits the zanyness of Buffy with the zanyness of LOTR and created one of the better fics I've read in a while. It's lovel-length, but it's worth it.

Title: Sympathy for the Devil by Ficangel
Fandom: Lost/Angel
Pairing: Sawyer/Lindsey
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ficangel
Author Website: n/a

Why this must be read:

Once upon a time there was a very, very pretty boy from the South named Lindsey. He had some evil hand issues and the only thing worse than his taste in women was his taste in men.

Once upon another time there was a very, very pretty boy from the South named Sawyer. He had pretty much everything issues and also had questionable taste in women and like Lindsey enjoyed provoking men into beating him up.

Okay, so I'm kind of avoiding actually describing this story because it's Lindsey and it's Sawyer and it's so very, very right and it just kind of makes my brain spontaneously combust, so I have to circle around the issue a bit or I become a drooling mess.

Just go read it because it's pretty, screwed up southern boys doing naughty things against a truck and really what more could you ask for in life?

Title: Zen by Basingstroke
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski, one-sided Tim Bayliss/Frank Pembleton implied
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] basingstoke
Author Website: Basingstoke
Why this must be read:

Normally I don’t really go in for crossovers. And for some reason, that’s especially true for dS. So I guess it’s rather funny that out of all of my favorite dS crossovers (and by ‘all’ I mean all three of them), two are due South/Homicide. I should note that I know next to nothing about Homicide. I debated for a while over which one to rec, and finally I settled on Zen.

(Mere’s ‘Totally Cheating on This’ Mini-plug: the other one is Wax Jism’s Lunar Eclipse in G Minor. It’s Fraser/Kowalski with some Kowalski/Bayliss in there too. It’s funny, the Ray voice is really original, and it has one of those great holy-crap-heart-in-your-throat moments. Read it too.)

Anyway, I ended up choosing this one for several reasons. First, it’s an outside POV of the F/K relationship, and I love outside POVs on relationships. Secondly, it’s brilliant at contrasting the ‘magical realism’ world of due South with the gritty, angsty Homicide universe.

Zen is a post-CoTW story. The basic premise is that Tim Bayliss has moved to Chicago and is now RayK’s new partner. The story is from his point of view, so not only do we get an outside perspective on RayK and Fraser, we get an outside perspective of the due South universe in general, which makes the lovable wackiness of the entire ensemble (”Huey and Dewey are doing--something--it involves a boom-tish rim shot and apart from that you really can't tell.”) all the more…lovable. There’s also a wonderful parallel between the whole destined, OTP happy endingness of F/K as compared to the unrequited failure of Bayliss/Pembleton.

You're not sure yet, but you think you like Chicago… )

And if that weren’t enough, Zen also has one of my all time favorite descriptions of Fraser/Kowalski ever.

Zen is actually the first of six parts of the Sestina series, which you can find on Basingstroke’s website in the Crossover section. It’s a great series, but Zen stands perfectly well (if not better) on its own. Goreadnow.

Title: How do you do continued in 200 Miles of Postcard Blues by Redrover1980
Pairing: Sydney/Sark, Buffy/Spike
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] redrover1980
Author Website: Memories
Why this must be read: This is beautifully written combining the dynamic between Sydney and Sark’s relationship to the one Buffy had with Spike. Buffy must deal with her still very fresh feelings for Spike when she sees Sydney and Sark. She is reminded of the mistakes she made in not accepting Spike’s love.

This story leaves you quite enthralled with the characters, wanting so much more for them.

I know we're only supposed to do one crossover, but I was basically being asked to choose between Christian Kane and Brad Pitt and that just ain't right, so this can count as one of recs for the month and you can send me to bed without supper or something

Title: You Can't Have Confidence Without a C-O-N by Hackthis
Fandom: Lost/Ocean's 11
Pairing: Rusty/Sawyer, Rusty/Danny, and a wee bit of Rusty/Linus
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hackthis
Author Website: Dysfuntional

Why this must be read:

Did you see the pairings? And also it's hysterical. And there are french fries. And Danny was just kidding about the Tess thing. And it has the best ending ever. And, okay, so it's kind of more of an Ocean's 11 fic with a guest spot by Sawyer, but he's there, and it's awesome, and did I mention the french fries?

Title: Looking For Them by cgb
Pairing: Tobias Beecher/Elliot Stabler
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch
Author Website: http://www.mandysbitch.com
Why this must be read:

Set post-season six Oz, and season six-ish Law & Order: SVU, this beautifully crafted piece imagines a real collision of worlds between a post-canon Oz Tobias Beecher and post-marital-separation Elliot Stabler. There's a wonderful fleeting, hit-or-miss quality to the progression of this story as Elliot tries to cope with the disintegration of his life as he knows it -- until a seemingly random encounter with a stranger changes eveything.

A taste:

Nothing feels normal but everything seems to be falling into a pattern: wake up, get through the day, catch bad guys, eat, sleep, do it all again. It's just when he thinks he might get used to it, he sees the crazy again, standing outside the station house, hanging by the side of the road like he's waiting for some one. Elliot watches him from the entrance. He's wearing a knit hat pulled down over his ears and dark sunglasses like he doesn’t want to be noticed. But it’s definitely him, identifiable by the blonde beard and edgy movements.

Title: Tenant of My Heart series by DeAnna Zankich
Pairings: Stuart/Vince; Stuart/Brian Kinney; Stuart/Vince/Brian; Brian/Justin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] deannaz
Author Website: Stories by DeAnna Zankich

Why this must be read:
This really long series is one of those stories that becomes a complete universe of its own. I like it because the progression of the relationships and the changes individual characters undergo are gradual enough that the reader is carried along. There are some grammatical errors that can be a bit distracting, but the quality of the story outweighs that, and I don't think you'll be sorry to give this series a try. I've used the series to persuade some people to read fanfic for the first time, so readers unfamiliar with the QaFUK universe should feel comfortable reading this series. One last thing about the series I want to mention is that there is a gradual development of a Vince who is a top to Stuart's bottom, with some discipline involved. It's not overt or ultrafetishy, so I don't want to categorize this as a D/s story. But the Vince characterization is credible and unique enough in the fandom that I thought I should mention it.

Note: Chapter 13 is the start of the crossover. I think Brian Kinney/Justin Taylor fans will find this element satisfying if you read this series.

Why this must be read:
This road trip story is recommended for the amusement factor. You know that if Stuart and Vince were on the road long enough, there would be misadventures. This is an unlikely event, but it could have happened...

Title: Enemy Within by Ashlea
Pairings: Kilner/Doomer, Bodie/Doyle
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: I think the story is a much better read if you've seen the episode it's based on. I was able to enjoy it the first time but so much more once I could visualize what Martin and Lewis looked like in their roles of Doomer and Kilner. The events of one show blend so well into the other, that the idea that they both could exist in the same "universe" is an easy one to accept. I would have liked the last scene to be a bit longer; I really wanted to hear Bodie's explanation to Ray. But it ended where I wanted it to so I suppose I can be happy with that.

Fandom: Farscape/Firefly
Paring: Aeryn/Mal
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thassalia
Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

This piece was originally written for the Multiverse 2004: The Many Worlds Space Show Crossover Ficathon on the request of Sabine, to whom I will be forever grateful.

It takes place sometime later in the Firefly universe and at some point (it could be considered AU or post PKWars if you squint) in the Farscape universe. It's about two people who have lost everything. It's about the obsession of hope and the siren song of purpose. It's about second chances and knowing when to quit. It's about pain and loss, joy and love. It's the type of subject matter that Thea is especially deft at handling. Her characters are spot-on in their age, showing growth and change, yet still being familiar enough that I can see the characters I know. It's a stripped down Mal and a rounded out Aeryn. It's a moment in both their lives that (almost) changes everything.

Title: Blood Types & Crossed and Matched by LilyK
Pairings: Jim/Blair & Joe/Simon
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Almost Pure Sentinel

Why this story must be read: Vampires and Sentinels. What could be sexier?

The first story starts with Blair and Jim seeing double -- literally -- in the form of Blair's twin, in a 7-11 type store one night. Blair's double is Dr. Joe McKay and he and his lover, Simon Molinar agree to meet the two men back at the loft. The four men determine that Blair and Joe must be twins, separated at birth by Naomi to be raised apart. Blair by Naomi and Joe by their father. If that isn't enough shocking news for Blair, there's more.

Joe has bad news. It seems they carry a genetic marker that if they are bitten by a vampire, they will turn into a vampire and the government knows this. They've been hunting Simon and Joe for this very reason. (See the movie Demon Under Glass for more details). It would go to follow, if the government would want Joe to study, if they knew of Blair's existence, they would want him too. Oh and BTW, Simon is a vampire!

The story ends there, but not before Joe and Simon tell Blair to be careful.

The sequel, "Crossed and Matched," is what happens when the Delphi Project, that nasty government agency hunting Joe and Simon, see Blair and mistaken him for Joe and kidnap him. They take him to their lab to do tests on him. Of course, Jim is frantic with worry about his lover and Joe and Simon are enlisted to help break Blair out of that government lab.

If you love vampire stories, then you will enjoy these two interesting takes in these universes.
