01:05 am The Unlikely CEO by Annabelle Leigh with Shar (NC-17)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Annabelle Leigh's Fiction by the Sea

Why this must be read: because Blair is totally hot and endearing as a newly appointed business mogul who someone is trying to kill. Who comes to his rescue? Jim, personal bodyguard and Sentinel, of course.

I love this A/U. Blair is like a fish-out-of-water in the corporate world, but Jim is perfect as the bodyguard, who is trying to keep his hands off his client (and failing).

01:34 am Photographic Evidence by Soraya (R)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Unknown

Why this must be read: because it's unique. It is future fic, not angsty Clark and Lex are enemies, but no, Lex and Clark are married and happy future fic.

Plus, it is told not from Clark or Lex's point of view, but from the reporter/photographer who is following them trying to take President Luthor's picture for the tabloids -- the kind of pictures that get president's impeached. *g*

And this photographer does his job well. One night, he catches Superman in a passionate embrace with Lex and captures the images on film. The pictures are printed in the tabloids and Lex is portrayed as a cheating spouse, a la Bill Clinton.

This story is charmingly written, amazingly detailed and somehow manages to look into Clark and Lex's life even from a third party POV. A little known gem that you should treat yourself to reading.

I like the edge Kalamity Kat's Stuart and Vince have. I could believe in this scenario, too.

12:51 pm What is Kept by C. Elisa (R)
Fandom: X-MEN COMICVERSE
Pairing: Rogue/Storm
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] c_elisa
Author Website: Intimate Structure

Why this must be read:

I'm terribly sorry I've been so bad at this. RL has been just a big black hole of suckage. But as proof of my repentance, I bring you girls! Touching! And stuff. This one's by C Elisa, whose prose is always smooth and cool as water. And there's lost Storm, wanting Rogue, small cabins, drifting hope, and girls! Touching!

Then she drew away, folded into herself to protect Storm from the danger of an accidental touch. No one would want that, she had said-to touch her and be absorbed, to fall into a living death. Storm had startled her by holding out her hand.

Why this must be read:
This is just a little fantasy AU set in their uni years in which Stuart and Vince go on a practice date. It would have been sweet for this to have happened, but...

04:37 pm The Dead by Jen (PG - rating guessed)
Fandom: OZ
Pairing: n/a, Beecher, O'Reily
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: n/a

Why this must be read:

A hard, world-weary look at late S4 Beecher and O'Reily, contemplating what's left after so many have come and gone during their time in Oz. Keller's off to Cedar Junction, the "fandango" is over, what remains? Jen's blunt and unsparing prose hammers home the bleak shells these men have become in this enviably compact little piece.

Ryan had changed. His entire body used to hum with pleasure, pleasure at coups and manipulation. Smug, too smug, only saved by plots pasted together with spit and luck. Now he seemed to stumble through his daily machinations, seeing from afar that the tides were beginning to turn, but not being able to take a risk long enough to stop the water from filling his lungs.

07:47 pm Continental Drift by Dala (PG)
Variations on theme number 3: The Canon Fate of Archie Kennedy

Fandom: HORNBLOWER
Pairing: implied Horatio/Archie, suggested Horatio/Archie/Bush
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] the_dala
Author Website: none
Why this must be read:
This is a true variation on a theme. Here Dala has written six drabbles, each portraying the thoughts and perceptions of a different character as he reflects upon the conclusion of "Retribution" and its fallout. The stories are short but incredibly powerful and wrenching in spite of – or perhaps due to – their brevity. The fourth vignette, in particular, is an absolute heartbreaker.

11:58 pm Ashes, East Winds, Hope That Rises by ErinRua (G)
Fandom: LORD OF THE RINGS
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: Not that I know of.
Author Website: The Lord of the Rings: A Visual Journey
Why this must be read: Eomer's a fascinating character who doesn't get nearly as much attention as he should. In this fic, ErinRua shows us events of TTT from Eomer's perspective, including his relationship with Eowyn, his antagonism toward Wormtongue, his grief for Theodred and his worry and confusion over his uncle's actions - not to mention the uncertainty regarding a certain ranger of the north.

The story is four parts long, but each chapter is a relatively short one. Still, set aside a little while when you'll be uninterrupted - it's worth reading straight through.
