Title: An Englishman in Smallville (The Legal Alien Extended Remix)
Pairing: Clark/Lex, Lex/Xander-ish
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rivkat
Author Website: Disenchanted Kingdom
Why this must be read:

Your one line, in-a-nutshell summary: Giles shows up in Smallville having to negotiate a deal with Lex in order to save Xander. Your second, insignificant line: Funness ensues!

There's a Lex that flirts with anything that moves, hilarious dialogue, a great rapport between Clark and Buffy, and a cute and fitting premise.

Quote:

"Yes, it's all very interesting," Giles said. "Need I remind you that Xander is gaining scales by the minute?"

"Well, then we'd better head over to the mansion," Luthor said, as if he were the only reasonable man in a group of flighty children. "May I offer you a ride?" He was most definitely engaging in deliberate innuendo, Giles concluded. The only difficulty was that Giles was not sure at whom it was aimed. Perhaps Luthor didn't care who responded.

Title: Beecher/Skinner crossover by Alinewrites
Pairing: Tobias Beecher/Walter Skinner
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] alinewrites
Author Website: Aline's Oz fic

Why this must be read:
This is a hidden gem I found in Aline's Memories section quite a while ago that actually diverted me into another fandom (X-Files) to dally with the Surly Assistant Director. I've been gleefully waiting for crossover day to rec it.

In the Oz fandom, the most explored crossover, of course, is with SVU and a certain Keller look-alike. But I thought this would be something a little different and maybe something that many had, unfortunately, missed.

[One more note before you read on... [livejournal.com profile] alinewrites is the most accurate LJ name I've ever encountered. Aline writes and writes and writes. But not only that, she writes daringly and adventurously and creatively and wonderfully.]

Title: The True Outer Space Magical Adventures of Lieutenant Kitty by Jungle Kitty (PG-13)
Pairing: Kirk/f
Author on LJ: none
Author Website: Invisible Planets
Why this must be read:

The Mary Sue to end all Mary Sues! Lieutenant Kitty is the half-elven sister of Aragorn, the true brains behind the Fellowship of the Ring. Now that Middle Earth is safe she's come to ply her magical abilities on the Enterprise--and her captain. Unlike many crossovers, readers from either fandom will not feel slighted. There's truly something here for everyone.

Title: Only the Force, they said by afrai
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bravecows
Author Website: Musical comedies without music
Why this must be read:

Because Death can go anywhere, even to a galaxy far, far away. Because one of the central tenets of Jedi belief is -...There is no death, there is the Force

And quite frankly they're wrong. There is Death. He's a tall skeleton, wears black, carries a scythe, rides a horse named Binky and talks LIKE THIS. In this story one of the unfortunate Jedi who perished on Geonosis has the opportunity to meet him personally.

Title: The First Visit by untitled06
Pairing: Dom/Morpheus
Author on LJ: Used to be [livejournal.com profile] untitled06, is now unknown.
Author Website: bluegreengray is the author's fandom archive. Sigil is a small archive for LotRiPS/Sandman fic.
Why this must be read:

Man. I love Neil Gaiman, I love LotRiPS. I therefore really, *really* love this fic. I don't have words for how layered and deep it is, despite its short length. The author uses Morpheus' first visit to a 16-year-old Dom to show the reader something about Dom and, in so doing, ends up telling us a lot about Morpheus himself.

"But understand, I will not be denied this." There was another pause and fingertips brushed lightly against the ridge of Dominic's brow. When Marlene spoke again, it was not even a ghost of her voice that passed from her lips, but that of a man: deep and ageless and endless in its sadness. "You have haunted me for too long already."

Title: This is how we do it in the speed force, bitch! by Jori
Pairing: Seth/Bart
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] plainsong_x
Author Website: none that I'm aware of
Why this must be read:

I'm kind of surprised that there aren't more stories that crossover the OC and comics, considering Seth's love for and fascination with comic book characters. And really, this is much how I imagine he'd react: "I'm not gay, but it's KID FLASH!"

Seth and Bart are both so adorable and true to character in this enjoyable little fic, and this fic has made them my personal crossover OTP. Definitely worth reading if you're a fan of either character.

12:23 pm "House of Hurin" by kirbycrow (NC-17)
Fandom: LOTR
Title: House of Hurin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kirbycrow
Author's Website: http://slashgirls.tripod.com/lordoftherings.html
Why this MUST be read:

This has to be one of the most disturbing tales in the entire Faramir/Boromir known fic-verse. It is a dark!fic rendering of the relations between the two brothers, their father Denethor, and a bastard son of Denethor's, written convincingly as an OMC. The psychological twists never seem to stop coming. There is incest (yeah, a given), rape, bloodletting, murder and....damn it's dark. But the slash! OMG the slash! Combined with KC's exceptional writing and you have fantastic fic that you must read. The sex is hot, the plot is evil, and you will NEVER guess the conclusion. I think she's chanelling "Othello" at times, as the beauty of the language and the evilness of man are so intertwined in this fic. When you read only the first chapter of the four in this tale, you will agree with me that every single member of Denethor's family, the House of Hurin, is possessed of secrets; some you may suspect, but others you will not believe. Here's a taste from chapter one:

12:45 pm "Spartan Letters" by Dwimordene (G)
Fandom: LOTR
Title: "Spartan Letters"
Pairing: Not slash! Gen. *checks forehead for temperature*
Author: Dwimordene
Author's website: www.dwimodenespage.org and you can also find other stories by her at the Henneth Annun Story Archive
Why this MUST be read:

Like her masterpiece, "From the Other Riverbank," Dwimordene draws us into the unseen side of life in the Steward's household. What would a man of war do, in a time when death might come at any moment? A wise man like Faramir would leave no task until the last moment, including doing all things necessary to wrap up his affairs if he were killed on the field of battle. Well-written, intelligent, this gen tale takes us into the mind of Faramir in convincing fashion.

Title: Anesthesia by Falstaff
Pairing: Muraki/Hirose, Muraki/Oriya
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] greekhoop
Author Website: Fanfiction.net
Why this must be read: Anesthesia picks up on similarities between YnM's Muraki and Bronze's Nanjo Hirose - two bespectacled blond antiheroes with serious brother issues - and runs with them. The premise sees Muraki treating Nanjo Koji in hospital after his car accident; thereafter, the story interweaves on the fringes of both series as Muraki and Hirose tip toe warily around a would-be relationship too dangerous to flourish in either world. Muraki recognises Hirose as kindred - a problematic concept for both men. Muraki has been searching for something special, someone useful - but Hirose is no-one's puppet. Written in a deliberately noir-ish style steeped in similes, the story is told in alternating first person POV and evokes the darkness of both series.

Title: Untitled by luaithre and maeve
Pairing: Ephram/Ryan, Ephram/Summer
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] luaithre and [livejournal.com profile] mabeval
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read:

I usually prefer fics to have more dialogue, but this is written so well (in Summer’s POV) that I wouldn’t change a thing. I think Summer is a hard character to write and these authors really met the challenge. I really enjoyed their characterization of Ephram too, although it probably is quite different than the one portrayed on the show...and not just because of the whole gay!sex!thing.

04:57 pm For Auld Aquaintance by Barbara Zuchegna (PG)

First of all, hello and sorry to be so late. I am your Man from Uncle driver for this month but due to a witty combination of moving house and technological incompetence it's taken me a while to get up and running.

My recs are going to be gen as well as slash and will tend to be Ilya centric - this is my revenge on the writers of the Green Opal Affair.

Title: For Auld Aquaintance by Barbara Zuchegna
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: David Mcallum Fans On Line

Why this must be read:

This was the very first piece of fan fiction I ever read and as such is included partly for reasons of nostalgia. BUT it is still good, I either love or hate AU and this is the best kind. It logically extrapolates out from the series to a future where Thrush have achieved their aims and shows the different responses of Ilya and Napoleon. It is fairly short but packs in a credible back story, character exploration and plot.

"Kuryakin has been captured!"

It started as a whisper, a rumor of sound, directionless and insubstantial. Everybody heard it, but nobody knew where it had come from. Everyone who heard it got it from someone who had heard it from someone else, and no one could pin down where it had started"

05:13 pm Stargate/Hercules: the Legendary Journeys (PG-13)
Title: Been There, Done That by Martha Wilson
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ltlj
Author Website: The Less Than Legendary Journeys
Why this must be read:

This is a Hercules: the Legendary Journeys/Stargate crossover where Iolaus gets stranded in the SG universe. I adore it. I've never seen SG beyond the movie and an episode or two, and that didn't hinder my enjoyment of this story at all, nor do I think an SG fan who has never seen Hercules would have any trouble. It's got great snark, especially between Jack and Iolaus, great character moments, and an appearance by one of my all time favorite original characters. Also, this story reinforced my conviction that Iolaus is incredibly sexy when he's pissed off. *g*

05:38 pm A Gathering of Sentinels by Lady Ra
I am so freaking LATE, but I'm here. Finally. I'm [livejournal.com profile] audrarose and I'll be driving the van for The Sentinel this month. Let's just get going, 'cause I've wasted enough time already.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: none
Author's website: http://www.visionsofprettyboys.com/home.htm
Author's summary: Blair's taken against his will and brought to a holding area for Sentinels that are in desperate need of a Guide.
Why this must be read:

The Sentinel is a fandom with spirit animals. That's just the way it is; we all have to accept it. In fan fiction they range from cuddly-wuddly kitties and puppies to mysterious, phantasmic harbingers of doom. HOWEVER, in Lady Ra's talented, witty hands, for once they make sense.

Not only that, the characterizations are true, the premise is inspired, and the OC's are brilliantly drawn. This story is exciting, well-plotted, seasoned with Lady Ra's trademark humor, and basically, the best portrayal of the whole wolf/panther canon I've ever read.

Title: A Hot Fairy Tale- The Pop Princess Bride: the Good Parts Version by S. Morgenstern as told to Vix (R)
Pairing: Justin Timberlake/Lance Bass ; Justin Timberlake/Britney Spears; Lance Bass/JC Chasez ; JC Chasez/Chris Kirkpatrick
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] uschickens
Author Website: The Kitsch N Sync
Why this must be read:

Because I laughed my ass off, and you will too. Seriously, the match-up of pop stereotypes, pop canon, and pop in-jokes to The Princess Bride canon is hysterically funny. It's a break from The Backstreet Boys recs because this is too much fun to skip and rules are made to be broken, yo (and there is a little BSB cameo at the end, anyway). So make Guilder and Florin modern record companies and let the fun begin. Justin Timberlake is Buttercup.( No, really, Justin Timberlake is Buttercup.), Lance Bass is Westley, Joey is Miracle Max, Chris Kirkpatrick is Inigo Montoya, and JC Chasez is Fezzik (he has a gift for rhyme. Sometimes.).

His name was Lance, but Justin never called him that. He was always Dance Boy, the silent, blushing shadow to Justin’s every move. )

Title: Down by the Docks by Calle Dybedahl
Pairing: Starbuck/Inara
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: cyberPoMo
Why this must be read:

This has Starbuck training as a pilot and Inara as a Companion apprentice, who meet in a grimy bar by the docks. The crossing over is very well done and easily believable. The character voices are excellent, but just slightly different to go along with their age and experience. I think this was the first femslash written for BSG03, and it's done really well.

Title: Liberations by Astrogirl
Pairing: Stark-Zen, Stark/Zen if you squint.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2
Author Website: Blog: Maximum Verbosity
Why this must be read:

[livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2 is one of those very rare authors who have been rec'd by this noble institution for two fandoms, specifically the two fandoms presented here. Moreover, Farscape and Blakes7 are clearly her two passions, and it shows in the vividness and accuracy with which she writes the characters of both series, especially her "pet characters" - two of which are definitely Stark and Zen.

An ongoing mystery in the Farscape universe is how exactly Stark managed to reconstitute himself so relatively quickly after having been blasted out of corporeal existence in "The Ugly Truth". Astrogirl proposes he had help.

...this one is different, unlike any he has encountered, the feel of it precise and clean even in the anguished throes of death. )

Go, read, savor the stark zen of Stark-Zen, and be sure to review.
