Why this must be read:

Written for the Don We Now Our Gay Apparel holiday challenge this is a fantastic AU in which JC is a busker in New York City and Nick is a struggling painter. I love AUs like this, the kind that take place in the real world. This one is especially fun because so many pop characters are in it and it's always been enjoyable to me to see what kinds of jobs authors give them in an AU like this.

Two weeks playing and he's not exactly rolling in the dough. For a couple of days he thought he had a fan, because she was always there towards the end of his set, and that made him feel good if not any more wealthy. )

PSA unrelated to this rec: [livejournal.com profile] bitterchick, who has been recced on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van multiple times, is closing down her website at the end of this month. You can read about it here. She's been wonderful enough to give everyone the heads up and the opportunity to download a really easy zip file of the entire website if interested. Also, she's written up a cliff's notes version of the ending of the Venice Beach AU so if you've ever read and loved that story, I highly suggest reading that post, too.

Fandom: LotRiPS
Pairing: Dom/Elijah
Author on lj: [livejournal.com profile] ukcalico
Author website: Calico's Lair
Why this must be read:

Dom has an oral fixation. Actually, Dom just has a fixation-- Elijah. I keep trying to think of somthing else to say, but I get distracted by the hotness of the imagery Calico's used to describe Dom and Elijah's relationship (and Dom's mouth wrapped around that lollipop). Just... read it.

Last time he had blackjacks was in Brighton, when he slipped away with Elijah on the train from London on an unforgivably chilly autumn day. Elijah wore black wool and a fuzzy hat and two pairs of socks, while Dom decided that he was a manly man and would survive in regular clothes. They walked on the pier and shared crunchy, frigid pieces of liquorice penny mix, and Dom caved and bought a big blue duffle coat when Elijah refused to let him slip his fingers under Elijah's jumper to get warm.

Last time he had ginger beer was in New Zealand, when Orlando insisted it was good with lots and lots of vodka and proved once and for all that he's an utter fairy who just likes to watch the pretty boys choke. After, Elijah tasted of juniper and caramel, and Dom curved his hands against the base of Elijah's scull and kissed him until he giggled, then sucked his sweet, slippery, acidic tongue until Elijah's fingers edged under his belt.

09:53 pm The Red Charade by Kaye Austen Michaels (R)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Twin Dolphin Productions
Why this must be read:

One of the most befuddling (and tragic) aspects of the Starsky & Hutch canon is the misplacement of the episode "Starsky vs. Hutch". Though it was filmed earlier in the season, and both the emotional tone as well as key visual elements would place it correspondingly, the episode was not aired until just prior to the series' finale, interrupting the obviously sequential plot arc of the last four episodes. Many fans flatly reject its airdate as canon; some, however, take a different approach toward explaining the confusing relationship "backtrack" that seems to occur when the episode is viewed as chronologically taking place after the "Targets Without A Badge" arc. This fic is one of those that does address why the boys seemed to fall apart so quickly after they finally came back together, but it gives a treatment vastly different than any other I've ever seen. The plot thickens, conspiracy abounds, and everything's so crazy it just might work.
