Fandom: THE OC Pairing: Theresa-centric, mentions of Seth/Ryan. Author on LJ: areyouannieWhy this must be read:This is another reflective character piece after all. Although I had issues with the Theresa story as it played out (how quickly it came up, and then how a wop-bam-boom, she's beaten by her boyfriend! she's pregnant! huh?), her character was intriguing and left a lot of room for writers to fill out her backstory and tie it in with Ryan's. I like this story for the quiet strength it gives Theresa. I also like it for Theresa's understanding of the intersection of luck and choice. I like the portrayal of Theresa's feelings as mixed and complicated. ( Excerpt: )Today Never Happened Before.

Fandom: THE WEST WING Pairing: None, features most of the gang Author on LJ: out_thereAuthor Website: Amazed By Mathematics Why this must be read:I've recced Annie in Sports Night before and now that I'm driving the West Wing for the month, I can't omit her from my list. She has a great grasp on the Sorkin style of banter and she's one of those authors that it's obvious she loves the characters as much as you do. This is a short piece set during the first primary election as the gang travels together and Josh curses the existence of traffic and/or Sam's nerdy side. Fandom: BLAKES 7 Pairing: Blake/Avon - Season 2, after Gan's death Author on LJ:? Author Website:? Why this must be read: Yes! Yes! This is a very nasty perverse *awesome* story. And yes, Blake dominates this story, and, for once, he gets what he wants. Considering the price he will have to pay later and the hell he will live in, I can't blame him. (But then, I seldom blame Blake). Ah and Avon suffers. Beautifully as usual. A story you should read every time you're watching the show and wish that Blake would bitch slap Avon and make him see the light. Vengeful, wonderful, HOT story. ( Read an exerpt and make up your mind! )

Fandom: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Pairing: Nick Stokes/Greg Sanders Author on LJ: kalimyreAuthor Website: Stories archived on CSI ForensicsWhy this must be read: It's really, really hot, and features Nick dripping with honey. How he came to be in this state, we don't know, and neither does Greg, but he doesn't care. All he cares about it watching the way that Nick's soaked pants show off the muscles in his thighs, and the way that Nick's nipples harden when he skins off his wet shirt. That's easily enough material to get Greg thinking very bad things in the middle of the locker room in front of his unknowing friend. The end of the fic makes me laugh at poor Greg and his plight, the middle is hot, because we're privy to Greg's thoughts as he...takes care of business, and the beginning has one of the best Greg/Grissom interactions I've ever seen in fanfic. I love how Greg views Grissom, and the way that the man is so smart about some things, and then so clueless about others. ( Greg runs into Grissom as he tries to make his escape... )Conspire

FANDOM: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: none; could be Napoleon/Illya if you squint Author on LJ: agent_aprilAuthor Website: not known Why this must be read:This is a lovely little one-shot which will leave you with a warm glow inside. Illya has been hurt in a mission and wakes up in hospital, Napoleon by his side. The story is told from Illya's point of view and agent_april does this very effectively, focusing at first on the senses of smell and touch and then expanding to include other senses as Illya goes behind Napoleon's back to obtain a copy of the mission report. The story is too short for me to be able to include a meaningful excerpt without spoiling it, but I hope you enjoy it and I hope that one day agent_april will write us the sequel... Fandom: LotRiPS Pairing: Orlando/Elijah/Dom Author on lj: abundantlyqueerAuthor website: Fic IndexWhy this must be read: Seriously, the hottest science lesson ever. If my AP biology class in high school had been like this, I would have paid much more attention. My absolute favorite thing about this fic, though, is that Orli's given the opportunity to be someone who actually understands something academic. Too often, authors make him the clichéd airhead who doesn't know very much about the world around him, so this fic is refreshing (and, did I mention, hot?). "The whole point of mitosis is to make two cells that are identical, from one cell. Identical genetically, at least. The cell takes great care to divide out the genetic material very fairly. All the other stuff in the cell - the organelles, the proteins and fats and stuff, it just splits roughly down the middle."

Fandom: STARGATE SG-1 Pairing: Sam/Jack, Sam/Pete Author on LJ: elly427Author Website: eikonklastesWhy this must be read:The series had a nice 'quick fix' for the cliffhanger at the end of The Lost City, but what if it hadn't been so easy? This is what might have happened if Jack hadn't been so easily rescued, and if Sam had been left to actually play the cards she'd dealt herself up 'til that point. Elly427's Daniel is spot on, and he has an excellent supporting role here, and her Sam is totally believable in her despair, and in her desperate attempts to move on. ( excerpt )Settling
