Why this must be read:
This is a charmer of a story, Ray coming to the realization that he misses Fraser that way. It's short, sweet, and just right for cheering one up on a bad day.

Why this must be read:

It’s the voices. No really. The voices. Of John Crichton and Chiana, the principles in this lovely piece. Their voices are wonderful – you can see and hear them as the action unfolds. You can feel the grit of the dust of the planet, taste it as it flows into your mouth and down your throat to coat your lungs (or at least, that’s how John put it).

The interplay between the two of them is just perfect. Just the right amount of humor, leavened with a touch of snark, all rolled together into a sweet, if dusty, fic that deals with Pip’s fear of the dark and that bad attitude John’s developed since hitting the Uncharteds. And through it all is the love they feel for each other – a very different love than that which he feels for Aeryn or that she feels for D’Argo – and the way they have become a family, of sorts, looking out for each other, big brother always watching little sister’s back, and vice versa.

Excerpt:
We break through atmosphere and continue our descent until a low sprawl of civilization spreads out beneath us, little square structures bunched around a crater big enough to house the Astrodome. My radio picks up a directional beacon that provides landing coordinates in a telephone-automated voice. I only understand one out of three words, but I get the general gist.

I park where I'm told and power down, releasing the canopy. Pip scampers out and slides over the side of the module, hitting the ground in a cloud of dust. Fine brown particles linger in the air a while before settling on everything, turning my module brown, peppering Chiana's hair, coating the inside of my lungs.

Here's hoping we don't have to stay here long. I have this thing about breathing. Kinda enjoy doing it. Want to keep it up for a while.

Read. Enjoy. And, if you enjoy it as much as I did, remember to feed the author when you’re done. :)

Author Website: Write Wrongs
Why this must be read:

This story begins, "There was a time when Lex knew nothing about the magic of exact change." Isn't that a beautiful line? I read this one years ago, but I've never forgotten it because it is such a perfect illustration of the way friendship and romance works. Part of falling in love is the way we change and influence each other, and that's what this story is about, the way a little change in perspective can signal something major for a relationship.

Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin

Author Website: http://www.sundive.co.uk/
Why this must be read: The story moves forward almost like a series of vignettes, each one showing another step taken in Napoleon and Illya's relationship after they become lovers. Some of Napoleon's preconceived notions of his partner are challenged and put to rest; I love how logical and normal Illya is presented. And it's really lovely when Illya discovers there's more to his partner's words than he at first believes. Both men are completely adorable here.

Plus, the ending makes me laugh.

Why this must be read:
I dug this story out of my fic folder after reading the recent SGA Harlequin stories. The setup here is classic romance novel: a guy helps his best friend attract a lover. The twist in this case is that Fraser has feelings for Ray, and the dinner date turns into something real.

Ray showing Fraser his best moves is fun to watch. I also liked the reaction scene when Ben comes out to Ray, with Ray holding in his surprise until Ben excuses himself from the table--perfectly handled.

The bonus reason to read this story is the two appearances of Renfield Turnbull. The epilogue is a must-read for any Turnbull fan.

Pairing: John Allerdyce/Bobby Drake (Pyro/Iceman)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism
Author Website: waxworld

Why this must be read:
This is a kick-ass Pyro character study, as well as a realistically awkward first-time story for the two friends. I especially like the way we get into John's complicated, conflicted head. Also, Pyro's ambiguous view of Xavier works in the context of later events. The story's got a more serious tone than most slash stories, almost dark fic.

Why this must be read:

What would happen to Michael and Justin if you took Brian out of the equation?   Could they find in each other what they could never get from Brian?  This story shows how they could get together.  It doesn't happen overnight, and they both have to deal with the shadow Brian still casts over their lives.

"Are those things you would have done with Brian?"

His hands freeze and he fumbled for an answer, flashes of memory twisting together in his mind, some that Justin had mentioned, some that were related. He thought of Brian in Justin's place that day at the graveyard or when Ted and Emmett had had their blow out.

"No." He answered finally. "It isn't in him to do those things."
