Fandom: THE DEAD ZONE Pairing: None Author on LJ: thucykenAuthor Website: Unknown Why this must be read: You have to love a story that starts with the spontaneous rescue of an animal rights activist from death by chicken poop. Life's just one big adventure for Johnny Smith, and his friend Bruce tags along as the visions pinball him from one incident to the next. And it's entirely possible that there's an ulterior motive involved... ( Excerpt ) Better You Than Me

Fandom: THE DEAD ZONE Pairing: Johnny Smith/Roger Chatsworth Author on LJ: drwormAuthor Website: They Call Me DrWorm...Why this must be read: This fic is actually based on the novel, but the season 1 episode "Destiny" involves the Chatsworth family and the fire at Cathy's as well. It's a tender piece, dealing with the aftermath of an only partially-averted disaster. The grim inevitability of what could not be saved, and the sweetness of what was saved. Fandom: THE DEAD ZONE Pairing: Johnny/Sarah Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: Badger's DenWhy this must be read: We know that Johnny and Sarah had a long friendship which grew into a deep love, but we rarely get more than a glimpse of what their life together was like before the accident, before Sarah moved on to marry Walt. This story touches on three moments of that time: their first meeting as children, the idyllic period of their engagement, and the moment when Sarah finally let him go. Fandom: X-MEN MOVIEVERSE Pairing: Logan/Scott Summers (Wolverine/CYclops) Author on LJ: bantrimAuthor Website: Brenda Antrim's Fan Fiction ArchiveWhy this must be read:The last several recs were serious, so for a change of pace I bring you the porn. I put this in the category of kink fic, so it might not be your thing, but I love a story in which a character gets all feral on a mate. And Wolverine gets feral like nobody can! This isn't my pairing of choice in this fandom, but the setup for the slash works for me. Mine

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Frannie Vecchio/Renfield Turnbull Author on LJ: shayheyredAuthor Website: Chez ShayWhy this must be read:Whoa, an actual het rec! I admit my dS reading is 95% slash, with a little gen in the mix. If I wasn't a fan of Shay's writing, I might not have read this, but I am glad I did, and I think you slashers will be happy if you read this one. This story about Frannie and Turnbull gives each back story from age 17, taking them from the past to the end of the series. Running on parallel tracks, it seems like their lives will never truly intersect, but fate is kinder than that. I can totally believe Shay's version of events in their lives. I love the sympathetic portrayal of two often foolish but kind-hearted minor characters. It Was a Very Good Year

Fandom: BUFFY Pairing: Kit/Dawn Author on LJ: cadence_kAuthor Website: Unknown Why this must be read:Every once in a while, I like stories that offer something a little different--not, perhaps, in terms of writing or style or characterization, but in how the entire 'verse is approached. Normal, for me, is such a story because it's written from an outsider's point of view. It is, in fact, a very "normal" story, about a girl who is falling in love with her best friend...and who worries what that will mean, if she says anything. Sure, there are vampires and demons and magic out there--but this story is about something far more commonplace, and perhaps, even a little scarier. Normal

Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Hints of Clark/Lois, but pretty much gen Author on LJ: supacatAuthor Website: !Super Cat OnlineWhy this must be read: There's some brilliant characterization here. Super Cat has captured Lois' brashness and the way Clark is exasperated, bewildered, and nearly charmed in spite of himself by it. It's nice to see an author dealing so adeptly with season 4, a season which most of the fans despised. Sofa, 3 a.m. Please let the author know if you enjoy it.

Fandom: Farscape Pairing: um, well, yeah... Author on LJ: twichieAuthor website: unknown Why this must be read: twichie is a wonderful writer, but that has never been so eloquently displayed as in this... this, well, frelling insane fic. She manages to keep all of our Farscape favorites totally in character, even though, well, they're in a Lifetime original movie. *snerk* Redneck Scorpius? Check. House surrounded by Peacekeepers cops with flashing lights? Check. Harried Crichton father rushing home from work after the frantic call from Chiana the neighbor? Check. Good friend (perfectly played by D'Argo) watching the hero's back as he bypasses the authorities (Peacekeepers, led by the consummate PK, Braca) to rescue his wife (Aeryn) and kids? Check. This fic is a riot. And ever so much more entertaining than the last Lifetime original movie I watched (although it did have Tahmoh Penikett in nothing more than a towel). Fandom: Queer as Folk (US) Pairing: Brian/Michael Author on LJ: synchronik Author website: Joe's Eats and Christian Bookshop Why this must be read:It is hard to find many good Brian/Michael stories. Here the author manages to keep both guys in character - something that can be hard to do with this pairing. It isn't some fairy tale romance; instead, we get to see two best friends trying to deal with the new twist in their relationship. ( The good news was )
