Why this must be read:

It's a bit late, but the first of Sally's seasonal stories is worth a mention. Oh yes. Beautiful prose and spot-on characterisation, as usual. This time, it's Avon being visited by ghosts of Christmases past and present. This one is chilling, funny and hopeful at the same time--quite a feat, knowing the characters and their natures. It's also a damn good read, whatever your preference, just because Sally has the knack of going deep inside the characters whilst still remaining true to the tone of the show itself. Dude, this is the smut fan reccing gen, you know it's got to be good;). The emotional kick is the thing, I guess, and Sally masters it perfectly, even in her early works:).

Why this must be read:

This is another seasonal offering from Sally--and it's just as lovely as the previous one recced. Here the narration is through Vila--oh, poor sweet Vila, and boy, is he miserable, post-Gauda Prime. Yet, there's still a faint glimmer of hope, even within the perfectly believeable bleakness and darkness that B7 is made of. This story is another gem, not to be missed. The characterisation is perfect again--just look at Vila's thoughts and the results of what happens with the attempts to resuscitate Blake... completely believeable, and not sinking into mush or OTT fluffy joy as many other PGP stories. The characters are the same grumpy sods you originally fell in love with, and nothing is easy or cheap. I more or less just wanted to give everyone a big damn cuddle after reading this.

So, yeah. Read it. G'wan. It'll make you smile:).

09:40 am Catch A Fallen Star by Rosemary (NC-17)
Okay, here I am again, driving the Pros crack_van for the month of January.

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tiranog
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: I can't imagine there's too many Pros fans that haven't heard of this story. But it's only recently been made available for net readers, for so long only available in zine form. Not reccing it wasn't to be imagined. There's everything I love in a Pros story here: great characterization, a long, involved plot, and a love between the lads that's so sweet yet strong enough to see them through the worst of circumstances. Both men are portrayed the way I like them best; their faults are more than apparent but their finer qualities more than make up for them. And not only do you get the story, but the beautiful Suzan Lovett illo that went with it, plus the two companion pieces. I can't recommend the story enough.

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS
Pairing: Sheppard/McKay/Teyla
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] docmichelle
Author Website: Tigerlady's Twisted Thoughts
Why this must be read: A long (42,000 words) juicy tale of the team's (John, Rodney, and Teyla's) attempt to find Ford and bring him back. It's also a tale of being stranded on a planet together, full of lovely little details and interactions, and the way the author brings the three of them together into an intimate relationship is very well done and plausible. And hot. Way hot. *g* The use of multiple POVs is very effective here, and the characterizations are on target. I especially enjoyed Teyla in this; she is portrayed as smart, tough, and earthy. When this fic first came out I hesitated to read it, being a complete Sheppard/McKay girl, but I'm glad I did, because it's a beautiful story and has become one of my favorites.

Snippet:

Teyla poured the tea, not wanting it to become bitter because of the insanity of men. She handed Rodney a cup first, since he had not irritated her yet. He nodded as he took it, but his eyes were slightly wary.

"And what of yourself? Do you wish to apologize for having sex with me as well?"

Rodney sputtered his tea, and Teyla hid a smile. She knew that people sometimes wondered if she was humorless, and she enjoyed making them wonder. It made moments such as these more enjoyable.

09:51 pm Preliminary Events by Xtricks (adult)
Hey all! I'm Tarc and I've driving for the X-Men fandom this month. I enjoy both comic and movie 'verses of all types, but I'm a slashy movieverse guy at heart, so expect many of my recs to come from that realm.

First up is one of my favorites, and someone not recced here before.

Fandom: X-MEN MOVIEVERSE
Pairing: Logan/Warren Worthington III (Wolverine/Angel)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] xtricks
Author Website: http://x-tricks.slashcity.org/
Why this must be read: X-Tricks writes in several fandoms and his work is consistently terrific. I'm especially fond of his work in the X-Men, where he often takes on unusual pairings, darker situations, or scorching hot relationships that can edge into BSDM.

This particular favorite is part of a loosely related series of Logan/Warren stories, where XT convincingly and organically couples two very dissimilar characters with poor track records for relationships. It's a movieverse fic, where Warren Worthington is established as a contemporary of Jean – mature, well educated, self-assured – that had already gone back out into the world by the time of the movies. Like most versions of Warren, he's deeply flawed, but brilliant, driven, and lonely. The attraction between he and Logan is palpable and honest, and screaming hot. This one features the pair in rather unique established relationship, a touch of angest, and some sudsy action – a sensual shave and a steamy shower. I love the depth of character. Read the whole series, but for a starter, I recommend:
