Title: "The Living" by Labingi Pairing: None Author on LJ: labingiAuthor Website: StarMerrowWhy this must be read:One of them is a tragic soul who has sent thousands into death and carries the burden of their memories in his mind... and the other one's a Stykera. I have seriously mixed feelings about Lexx; at its best it was brilliant satire, and at its worst it was just plain embarrassing. But no matter the episode, Kai was always a fascinating character, and introducing him to Stark is one of those ideas that seems simultaneously an incredibly obvious and an incredibly ingenious thing to do. The result, in Labingi's hands, is a meeting that leads to reflections on life and death and loss and hope, in voices that are spot-on for both of them. ( an excerpt )The Living

Fandom: STAR WARS Pairing: Qui-Gon/Shmi Author on LJ: wendynatAuthor Website: Profile at Digital QuillWhy this must be read: Because it is one of the few fics thatever made me actually cry. This is a poignant tale, beautifully woven into the events of The Phantom Menace, of the romance between Qui-Gon and Shmi. It brings out their subtle chemistry displayed in the film, and will totally touch your heart -- and possibly rip it out. It's just wonderful to watch Wendy unfold the tale, things you might have suspected happening on the periphery, and put it all together so perfectly. It is tasteful and the romance is done just right, so it's not overdone. ( excerpt ) And the Stars Be Our Witness

Title: Apples by The Amazing Maurice Pairing: None Author on LJ: 20thcenturyvoleAuthor Website: FFNet author's pageWhy this must be read:Because this must have been how it happened. It's funny and of course this is how Death would find a new horse after his attempts with flaming, skeletal steeds. Told from Shadowfax's point of view it conveys the horse's lack of surprise at - just about anything. Because after the Ring War a hooded skeleton falling from the sky is completely acceptable - provided it offers to feed you apples, of course. ( Extract )Apples

Title: Voyage of the Damned, by Tiffany Park Pairing: none, thank goodness! Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: Tiffany Park's Starsky and Hutch FanfictionWhy this must be read:Because it's insane. Absolutely, utterly insane. And because Starsky and Hutch somehow manage to sound and act like themselves, or anyway, the way they would if they were caught in an insane universe. Which they are. And because it's got lines like this: "Are you being a good boy while Mommy evokes Satan to visible manifestation?" So grab yourself a big bag of Cheesy Poofs and enjoy! Voyage of the Damned

Title: Desert Odyssey by K.T. Masoon Pairing: N/A Author on LJ: Not that I know of. Author Website: None (fics available at Blackraptor) Why this must be read: You tend to find more ATF AU crossovers than in the Old West universe, but that doesn't mean there aren't great OW crossovers out there. Here K.T. crosses the guys with the old western High Chaparral, a show set on a ranch on the Arizona-Mexico border. When events take a turn for the worse as two of the seven return from escorting a criminal to Mexico, the Cannon family and the Seven find themselves working together. TitleThe Mystery Science of Harsh Millennium Files PairingJean Jackson Author on LJunknown Author Websiteunknown Why this must be readBecause it's too weird not to read. Because it's one of those fics that is all about the snarky snarky humor. Because it's one that takes all the fanon and canon character traits to the extreme. Title: Slither by Fryadvocate Pairing: Lindsey McDonald / Dean Winchester Author on LJ: fryadvocate Author Website: none that I am aware of Why this must be read: This is a perfectly lackadaisically paced story about Lindsey and Dean happening upon each other on the road in the South. In Angel it takes place after Lindsey has left L.A. and he is haunted by all that happened, and is a time that matches up to when Dean was traveling on his own in the Supernatural-verse. They don't see the whole truth of each other, but they are both too cognizant of the world and the underworld to fall for each other's ruses and their studied superficiality doesn't mean they can't use each other's thrumming energy to get off. In particular I like Lindsey's circulating and wandering thoughts and actions. He's lost and it shows, but he isn't down and his obsession with seeing Angel in Dean hints wonderfully to his later-canon actions. ( because Angel was an exception, boys who drive long, low, high maintenance cars know how to take care of them. )Slither by Fryadvocate
