The story is powerful and finely crafted, conveying a depth of character that is truly envious. There is no waste of words, simply a well-crafted tale of the bond of love between Anakin and Obi-Wan that feels real.

Because the Men of Númenor are longlived - as are Elves - but Eowyn is not; she ages while the others don't. This shows Eowyn just before a birthday celebration - concerned at feeling she is leaving the other three behind - remembering the past and worried for her husband's future.

The language draws you into Eowyn's mind, and the conversation with Aragorn is a welcome, hopeful relief to her concerns. The description and dialogue is great - it builds a real sense of a long history between the characters.

Why this must be read:

I has to confess I tackle this one with awe and shake because it may be highly controversial, not for the sex (nothing kinky or, in anyway, special here), but for the questionnable take of Cowley's behaviour and character. In a way this story, more than Shoshanna's one, could be given the title Neither Merciful Nor Just. And yet, objectively, if we stick to facts, there is here nothing more shocking than in the restrained, allusive and understated Less These Dark Days, previously recced here. The story line is about the same. But you can trust the author to make the best use of any stuff she puts her hands on to disturb and upset her reader.

So, it's only about Cowley being surprised by Bodie in a place of debauchery (a fashionable male brothel or a selective military club, as you prefer) and pondering how the most effectively he could thwart the threat of scandal: to get rid of it by throwing Bodie to the wolves and sacking him out of CI5 with a dishonorable discharge or, more subtly, to put the agent in a compromising position in order to get a hold on him, while enjoying the, humm, possibilities of the situation, in the meantime.

Of course, the catcher is caught, the seducer is seduced and eventually the loyalty and honesty of the young man disarms the tricks of the older. But, to be fair, these nasty thoughts never came to the stage of actual intentions. And the ultimate word of the tale is love.

This is a surprisingly cute story about two Slytherins in...something. Crabbe, Goyle, and the Yule Ball.

Crabbe didn't get to talk to girls all that much, but he was around when Draco talked to them. He thought he would like to go to the ball with Daphne because she had curly hair and a nice smile and when he saw her, he got a funny feeling in his stomach.

But the problem was that when he saw her, his throat also got all tight and his mouth froze up and so he couldn't get the words "Would you go to the Yule Ball with me?" out of his mouth.

This rich, involving story spins off of a fan-favorite episode, Bloodbath. But you don't need to be familiar with the episode to pick up the story. Kate puts entirely her own spin on the events, and she makes them far darker and more traumatizing than television would ever have allowed.

The story starts with Starsky's last-minute rescue just as he's about to be beaten to death by a mob of crazed cultists. This story is all about the fall-out, both physical and emotional, from what he's just been through.

Silence Isn’t Always Golden and its sequels are really about Northstar. Since I have kind of a soft spot in my bitter little heart for Alpha Flight, I really liked that he made it over to the X-Men. For a while, anyway. This story is about his theoretical friendship with Jubilee and how it changes him. While this Jubilee is not entirely a Jubilee I recognize, it’s still good stuff.

This is a sweet story about how Seamus and Dean are totally made for each other (hereafter referred to as MFEO). Seamus' voice in this story is really very good, and the story is sweet without being saccharine. And really--Dean and Seamus are so MFEO!

The thing I never told her was that it’s not about being good enough for him; it’s recognizing that there is nothing you wouldn’t do for him because it’s like doing something for yourself. It’s knowing that you’ll work your whole life to become better and better because you know that he’s going to do the same thing without even thinking. It’s knowing that you judge every person you meet against him because he is everything you close your eyes and imagine in your craziest, Disney-est fantasies and he’s right there in front of you. And he’s listening to you like you are the most interesting person he’s ever met and he doesn’t ever want you to stop.

It’s recognizing that he just is. And that’s better than you could ever hope for, but you know you have it anyway and you feel lucky every day.
