Why this must be read:

This vignette gives us a glimpse of a side of the Rebel Alliance that we did not see in the movies. The Alliance did not have time for elaborate rituals or ceremonies, but they must have taken a few moments to remember the fallen after each battle and to honor that for which they had fought. Elana shows us two such brief ceremonies and Luke's participation in them, first on Yavin and then on Endor. This fic, although short, carries an emotional impact that resonates. The reader knows the details behind what happened, but the two brief scenes fit neatly into canon and add just a little bit of meaning to it. Highly recommended.

Why this must be read:

I've always liked fics that put Darth Vader and Princess Leia together in the same scenes. Those two characters are so alike -- albeit unknowingly so -- that such fics are always interesting if done right. This brief story gives us Darth Vader's thoughts when the Death Star destroyed Alderaan. Agentjedi is a universally excellent author, and she definitely delivers in this short fic. We see Vader's unspoken but ungrudging admiration of the Princess and we get a brief glimpse of the man who was Anakin as Alderaan is destroyed. Vader is always in character, especially knowing what we know from the Prequel Trilogy. Highly recommended.

I rec'd a couple of oldies last week, so this week I wanted to recommend something new. If you like your Josh and Donna angsty, romantic and with a dash of humour, then Sally's stuff's for you! She's relatively new to the fandom, but don't let that deter you - she has a really good handle on the characters, her writing style is excellent - and the thing which really appeals to me is the way she gets into the character's heads and 'internalises' things. Why this must be read:
One of the great things about the Highlander fandom is the many wonderful writers that continually produce high quality stories. One of my personal favourites of these is esjay. One trademark of her stories is spine-meltingly hot sex. But sometimes I just want to read her wonderful characterisations and the easy comaraderie she portrays between them. This story is a great example, showing the depth of their friendship with insightful glimpses into the characters.

But if you want the hot sex, I could just as easily have recommended any of the stories on her page.

Now, after all those severe and nostalgic considerations, to really lighten the mood, we are going to propose you...a death story!

Absolutely yes, a real death story, beginning where all living souls come to their end; in the cemetery:

It was a sad scene which he and his CI5 partner, Bodie, had been through more times over the years than he cared to remember. This time, unfortunately, the funeral was significantly different...This time, the agent being bid a sad and fond farewell by his colleagues and grieving partner was one William Andrew Philip Bodie. Smug, arrogant, devilish Bodie, who had always looked good whatever he wore, was dead. And that was a fact that his partner, Raymond Doyle, was having a very difficult time dealing with.

Our bereaved and mourning CI5 agent is decided to find oblivion where it could be more easily found: in a bottle (many bottles); well, maybe in action and duty first but, "If that didn't work, he would try Cowley's patented method for all ills. Lots of pure malt scotch."

Don't fret; that's just the starting point of the story. Inexplicable and very unusual developments are to be expected when somebody as energetic and lively as Master Bodie is involved, even as a disembodied and playful spirit. And, eventually...Things were back to normal. Well ... ALMOST...

Again Blythe Spirit or Gay Ghost

OK, I’ve never done anything like this before so please just scroll on by if I suck too badly. When I first got the idea to take part in this lil thing I was gonna do it all written from the point of view of Dan Scott…he is my alter ego when I RPG after all…but then in the last episode the writers went a whole new direction and my summary and I got totally JOSSED. This recap has been delayed while I’ve edited, suffice it to say that a lot of the story line all comes back around to Dan and his past and how the folks of Tree Hill are or are not related to him.

I should also mention that although I’m skeptical, as of this writing there’s whispering in the winds that with the new WB/UPN merger thing that One Tree Hill is in danger of being cancelled. I’m not sure if that’s the case, as I understood they were merging so they could actually fill a full week schedule with programming, meaning both networks would keep all their current prime time shows…but what do I know about it. I’m just yer average fangirl who got hooked on a WB program for nostalgia’s sake. See, I played basketball in high school, I was never really very good and I certainly wasn’t popular but I can relate to a small mid-western town obsessed with their high school team.

Because this is a smaller fandom, fan fiction for this show isn’t quite as easy to track down as for other programs. I think because their target audience is younger, it includes a goodly number of Mary Sues who just want to “be with” Lucas or Nathan. Then, there is the predictable het-fic for the various relationships represented in canon. And of course there Slash to be found. Myself, I am a little squicked by the slashing of Nate/Lucas or Dan/Keith as they are after all brothers, but there are assorted friends and teammates for Nate and Lucas which occasionally get slashed. There is also lots of potential for fem-slash with authors choosing between all the teen-aged girls and even Karen/Deb. In canon often the fem-slash is just right there in your face, as most of the girls have been shown on screen sleeping together and one story-line included a bi-sexual character.

Why this must be read: There's something eerie, I'm told, about the way Dom interacts with Viggo-and-Orlando. I don't see it myself, but if it produces fic like this, I'm all for it. Sarah gives us nine drabbles in a timeline, that starts slow but builds to an ache by the end, with illustration that makes the whole thing heartbreaking.
