12:54 am Sentinel Shift by Krisser (NC-17)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: N/A
Author Website: Unknown. You can find her fic at 852 Prospect.
Why this must be read: Because the first sex scene is so freaking hawt. Plot? Yeah, there's one of those too. Seems someone's stalking Blair. He starts receiving threatening letters and packages. Jim becomes increasing protective, and when Blair receives a particularly personal "gift" from his stalker, Jim reverts completely to primitive!Sentinel. He's crazed with the need to get the stalker's offending odor off of his guide and starts rubbing and licking and whew...is it hot in here?

Excerpt )

The sheer, erotic imagery of Jim as cat (panther), licking and sucking and biting his mate is enough to suck me in. But, there's also an interesting plot and some wonderful angst -- does Jim really love and want Blair or is he just temporarily in thrall to his primitive instincts? Read it and find out.

Sentinel Shift

ETA: I like this fic A LOT. However, in the interests of full disclosure and to prevent readers from feeling they were misled, I feel I should acknowledge the writing style is a bit florid. Unnecessary and potentially distracting epithets are plentiful and IMHO, Jim's transitions from single-minded primitive!Sentinel to "normal" Jim and back are too convenient. If you're the type of reader who can't overlook a few imperfections, this fic is probably not for you. I love it though.

09:17 am Interlude by Aratlithiel (NC-17)
Fandom: LOTR
Pairing: Frodo/Merry
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] abby_normal
Author Website: http://www.lightindarkplaces.net/
Why this must be read:

Frodo/Merry is one of the greatest "minor" pairings of LOTR hobbitfic fandom (and, for reasons having nothing to do with the books, also one of the most embattled); after all, consider the devotion that must have led Merry to leave his life as the heir of the Master of Buckland to accompany Frodo into the unknown. One of this pairing's foremost proponents and most splendid writers is [livejournal.com profile] abby_normal, and her story "Interlude", turning on the axis of Merry's care for Frodo and propelled by his dynamic approach to problem-solving, is a prime example of what this pairing has to offer and a tasty sample of [livejournal.com profile] abby_normal's vigorous, tactile, evocative writing.

"Interlude" is part of the ongoing series "Counterpoint", but first stood on its own, and I'm reccing it here as a solo story.

11:31 am Changed Utterly by Parda (PG-15)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairings: none, really - gen
Author on LJ: not that I know of
Author Website: http://users.erols.com/darkpanther/

Why this must be read:
This is, at its heart, the painfully true story of Duncan and Richie, of Duncan and Connor, of Duncan and Methos -- a story of fathers and sons, of brothers, of a man facing the darkest places within him. Cassandra is the catalyst, but this is Duncan's story, as full an examination of the Ahriman arc as one could hope for. If the episodes offer us the intriguing idea of a battle fought within one man's soul, this story gives us the full realization of that idea, breathing life and depth and myth into the experiences of the man who has to live with the aftermath. It's a story about redemption, about the day to day reality of grief, and of learning how to move through it. It's about growing up at four hundred and five, and the courage that takes. Most of all, it's about the human capacity for screwing up, and how hard it is to get up again, to keep on trying to get it right.

Richie would have been twenty-five tomorrow.

I go out into the fields, to the cut stubble of hay, to the earth stripped of her bounty. She gives to us, and we must give to her, in an ancient rite of sacrifice, our blood on her ground, our life for her life, our death for her death. It hasn't always been a straw man tossed onto the fire. Sometimes the man to be sacrificed is the champion of the local lord, or the lord himself.

And sometimes, the sacrifice is the lord's son.

01:22 pm Staring for a Hundred Hours by Stone Princess (adult)
Fandom: WBrps
Pairing: read it and discover
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] stone_princess
Why this must be read: Every fandom has the random hustler fics. This one is very good. I *hate* hustler fics, and I will admit this author is my friend, and when she told me about it, I was all "oh, not even for you will I read this", because I'm a whore that way. But then I felt bad and read it, and, lo!, it was righteous. This is also the only instance of this pairing I've seen to this date. There should be more.

03:40 pm The Heart's Filthy Lesson Series by Mustangsally and RivkaT (NC-17)
Fandom: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
Pairing: Buffy/Spike
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mustangsally78; [livejournal.com profile] rivkat
Author Website: The Disenchanted Kingdom; RivkaT's Bare-bones Site
Why this must be read: Nazi demons! Souled-Spike! Egyptian-mummy vampires! Time travel! Evil popstars! Shades of grey! Bascially there's more plot here than you can poke a stick at, plus wit and inventiveness and hot hot hot chemistry. All in all, a bloody good read.

11:35 pm Avoir Raison by Keren Ziv (PG-13)
Fandom: STAR TREK ENTERPRISE
Pairing: Archer/T'Pol
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thedorkygirl
Author's Web site: http://dork.asyousleep.net/
Why this must be read: Keren Ziv writes in crystalline prose with drops of parenthetical expressions interspersed that are like stones dropped into a pond, sending waves out that alter the reflection. In "Avoir Raison," we are reminded that Vulcans do indeed experience emotions; they merely repress them. What happens when T'Pol and Archer, fundamentally alien from one another, initiate an intimate relationship? Can there actually be intimacy between two people who literally cannot understand each other? The author's summary is a line from the fic: "She does not have an excuse for this; instead, reason upon logical reason pile on top of one another until they threaten to overwhelm her."
