08:14 am What the Thunder Said by Jennifer Campbell (PG-13)
Happy Easter, to those who celebrate it. I'm going to be away for the next little while, so I'll be posting a couple of my remaining recs before I go, and the rest at the end of the month. Thanks to all who have been reading these.

Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: none (gen)
Author on LJ: not that I know of
Author Website: http://www.geocities.com/c645900/methos/index.html

Why this must be read:
There was a time in the history of Highlander fandom when Gathering stories were all the rage. This is one of the best, and one of only two that I ever found entirely (too) believable. It's not a happy story, but it is beautifully written and characterized, and if it had happened on the show, it probably would have happened just like this. Whether or not you choose to accept the Gathering as inevitable, I think you'll find this story powerful, compelling, and memorable.

09:31 am A Spoonful Of Coolant by Random Dent and Lady Alyssa (PG)
Fandom: STAR TREK ENTERPRISE
Pairing: Technically Tucker/Reed, but really, this story reads like gen
Author on LJ: No (the authors no longer write fic)
Author Web site: Bagenders
Why this must be read: This brilliant crossover with Mary Poppins has an "efficiency expert" (and we all know who that is) visit Enterprise. Singing and dancing ensue, Reed makes a choice, Mayweather confronts his worst fear, and Commander Poppins faces down Doctor Phlox's bat. Like much of Random Dent and Lady Alyssa's stuff, this fic is absolutely hilarious, and it has a nice twisty ending. The warning on the fic is apt: "Contains Gormless!Archer." The authors play with fanfic cliches of the characters, from Reed's fecklessness and desire to blow stuff up to Mayweather's lack of presence. Oh, and of course, we have Archer's gormlessness:

"And what problems have you been having, captain?"

The captain stared at the hatstand. "Hng? Wskv?"

"Ah. Vacillation. Lack of command presence. I will talk with the crew and we will address your problem first."

"Problem?"

"It's worse than I thought."

09:44 am Wrestling as One of the Fine Arts by Jat Sapphire (NC17)
This week, the theme is PWPs. Hot:) And not only PWPs, but Jat Sapphire's PWPs.

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH

Pairing: Starsky/Hutch

Author Website: http://www.geocities.com/jat_sapphire/shfic.htm

Why this must be read: This is set after Omaha Tiger (AKA the wrestling episode;) and Starsky's up to something. He's tricked Hutch into coming over to teach him some wrestling moves, under the notion that Starsky wants to even up abilities with Terrible Tessie. What Starsky's really up to is some frisky moves of his own. He and Hutch have been having an open screwbuddies relationship off and on for years and years and Starsky's in the mood again.

He looked wonderful. Damn. He did. I wanted to be the one riding his back, so before he had time to collect himself I rolled up and lunged. Got on top of him, sort of, and tried to push him flat. He seemed the size of a horse just then, his back too broad and his limbs too long for me to cover, and though he collapsed at first he bucked and arched his back and tried to slide out from under me. I tried to hook one knee under him, mostly for the wrestling, and brought the other leg up around the outside to try and get some purchase to turn him over. He twisted and we slid around together, shuffling around an arc that turned us both completely in a circle without giving either of us any more advantage.

Sometimes, wrestling and sex are not that far apart in action.

09:57 am Rainy Night, Sunny Morning by Jat Sapphire (NC17)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH

Pairing: Starsky/Hutch

Author Website: http://www.geocities.com/jat_sapphire/shfic.htm

Why this must be read: After a day on the streets and a night in the rain, the boys come inside to dry off and rest. It's too hot, they're only in their underwear, but sometime in the night they sought out each others' bodies and lay enveloped in each other. As they awake, they start engulfing each other as if this is the most natural thing in the world...because it is.

They didn't kiss. They'd never questioned it, never agonized over it; it just didn't happen. They used their mouths elsewhere, as Hutch bent to do while he lifted one knee, then the other, to get his briefs finally off, meanwhile capturing Starsky's nipple in his lips, an arm strong as a pillar behind Starsky's back. A murmuring sound from Starsky that was half protest—he liked to watch the briefs come off—and half pleasure at the pulling wet warmth on his chest. He pulled at Hutch's shoulder so he could nip the curve of muscle there, and his fingers found Hutch's cock.

Sometimes actions speak louder than words. A smile can mean I love you just as well as voicing it.

10:05 am Merry Christmas, Perkowitz by Jat Sapphire (NC17)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH

Pairing: Starsky/Hutch

Author Website: http://www.geocities.com/jat_sapphire/shfic.htm

Why this must be read: This story was originally published in the zine Dangerous Lives, Dangerous Visions. Set after Little Girl Lost, the boys are driving back from Kiko's house, with Perky between them, and Starsky's still griping about the caboose Hutch didn't buy him for Christmas.

"This guy—" he gestured widely as they sat at a red light— "doesn't have any idea what to do at Christmas."

"Oh, I don't know," Hutch said. He moved his arm, which he'd stretched along the back of the seat, until it lay warm across Perkowitz's shoulders and his hand cupped Starsky's neck. Massaged it, slowly, nape to skull and down, and again. "I have an idea, and I think it's a pretty good one."

The whites of Starsky's eyes flashed, but he didn't speak for a moment. Then what he did say was "Uh, Hutch," but the corners of his mouth twitched.

"Perkowitz is a swinging kind of girl," Hutch went on in his slightly raspy, warm-brandy voice. "Isn't she? Aren't you, Perkowitz? Wendy?" His head bent toward her; his voice rasped lower: "Want to play with the Lost Boys tonight, Wendy?"

Hutch is so smooth;) And off they go to Never, Never Land. In fact, they get up to a few steamy things in the car on the way over. They're wonderful apart, but they're dangerous together. Starsky, Hutch, and Perkowitz makes three. It's a very Merry Christmas.

10:18 am The Coefficient of Expansion by Idler (G)
Fandom: HORNBLOWER
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] idler_1814
Author Website: Just her journal which contains her HH fic and nothing else.
Why this must be read:

To my mind, this is the perfect drabble. Spare beautiful language works its magic to paint a bigger picture than would seem possible in just 100 words, suggesting how William Bush the blacksmith’s apprentice might have found his way to sea. I particularly love the way the title, taken from Bush’s own words in the one scene in Retribution in which he refers to his blacksmith connection, describes his progression from a stifling smithy to the "limitless sea". Tremendously accomplished in every way and a joy to read - and reread.

11:16 pm An Unexamined Life by Helen (NC-17)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair, Jim/m
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] helenish
Author Website: Oh, the humanity!
Why this must be read: Blair is pissed when Jim blows off some important tests and exacts a bit of revenge by "outing" them at the office. It was just a joke...but word gets around, and Jim gets asked out by another cop -- a male cop. The first date is kind of an accident. The subsequent ones aren't. In the blink of an eye, Jim's in a romantic/sexual relationship with a man for the first time in his life and seems pretty happy about it. Blair isn't. He's being an asshole -- the question is why? Is he just freaked that his ultra-straight roommate, best friend and partner has suddenly and rather casually entered into a homosexual relationship? Or is he jealous?
