11:28 am The Blue Sun Job by Guildsister (PG-13)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Wash/Zoe, Mal/Zoe
Author on LJ: not that I know.
Author Website: None that I know.

Why this must be read:

If you haven't ever been over to Fireflyfans.net in the past couple of years, it's entirely possible that you haven't seen this story before. If that's the case, you are in for a treat. Beginning with Truthsome, Guildsister built up an incredibly plausible AU that dovetails nicely with the series and hasn't really been contradicted by anything in canon. In Blue Sun Job, she continues with a very broken Mal who is barely hanging on to his sanity and fueled by revenge to take on the biggest caper his crew has ever seen -- robbing a Blue Sun depository. The whole crew participates, there's many near misses, Mal continues to fall apart and in doing so, we're given a glimpse into his and Zoe's background with each other.

It's a wonderfully long epic tale that Guidlsister posted over the course of a year. Hands down, it is my favorite Firefly story ever written and I never fail to tell Guildsister that at every opportunity that I get. Set aside a few hours and be prepared to fall in love with Firefly all over again. Consider it a movie that we may never get.

10:22 pm A Clark/Lex Epic of Staggering Genius by Tiffany Rawlins and Punk (R)
Fandom: Smallville
Pairing: Clark/Lex
Authors on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] wearemany and [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun
Authors' websites: we are many and the underground
Why this must be read:

OhmyGOD, is this funny. Lex is talking about his relationship with Clark, but the authors use the style of David Eggers' book of the same name (sub "heartbreaking" for "Clark/Lex" *g*). They're obviously having a lot of fun with it, but what makes this more than just a clever, stylistic exercise is that Lex and Clark are perfectly in character and we get bright, emotional snapshots of what an early season relationship between them would have been like.

Besides, how can you not read something with lines like this:

Let the record show that at the time of the interview we are both naked, though Clark is in italics.

Go read and tell Punk and Tiffany how amazing they are:
