Title: Habeas Corpus by julie levin russo
Pairing: Evelyn Baker Lang/Laura Roslin
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] projectjulie
Author Website: mangled.into.our.language
Why this must be read: In this crossover the BSG fleet has found Earth - an Earth late on the final Bartlet presidential term. The political ideals of the two become personal in the more interactions of President Roslin and Justice Lang - recently appointed liberal judge to the US Supreme Court.

Although centred on the two women, there are cameos by characters from both series and a great plot. The practicalities of the settlement of the BSG refugees, the technological advantages of the colonists as well the reactions of the Earthsiders are all touched on well. But second only to the resettlement is the Cylon question, definition of a 'person' and an enemy combatant - where Roslin shows Lang their captive in chains is a great depiction of the clash between the pragmatism of the colonists and the more idealistic Bartlet White House.

Title: Mermaids Singing by Lyrica
Pairing: Blair/Skinner Jim/Mulder Jim/Blair Mulder/Skinner
Author Website: Lyrica's Labyrinth
Why this must be read:

There are so many good Sentinel crossovers out there, I had a hard time narrowing it down! But of the three or four I read over and over again, I chose this one because I love the allusions to how Blair became the man he is and how Skinner helped him develop that part of himself that reaches its fruition with Jim.

Simon clamped his unlit cigar between his teeth and stalked out ahead of him. "Hey, Sandburg, wait up," Simon called. "I was just telling Jim we should take our guests to dinner. There's a new Italian place over on Third that's supposed to be great."

The three agents turned surprised faces on them. "That's just what Mr. Sandburg was suggesting," Mulder said, brow furrowed at the coincidence.

"Imagine that," Simon grinned.

Blair peered at Jim over the rims of his glasses. "Yeah, imagine."

Jim just rocked back on his heels and tried to look innocent. It worked for Blair, about twenty times a day. He didn't see why it wouldn't work for him.

Title: Stardust by Kikkimax
Pairing: Tony/Daniel UST
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kikkimax
Author Website: Kikki's Fanfic
Why this must be read:

There are some stories that are, for lack of a better word, seminal.

This is one of them. This story, hefty and well-written, is probably the first crossover in NCIS fandom, and is still the crossover to compare others to. Kikkimax takes a simple premise and deftly weaves Tony and Daniel into a complex, very real relationship. The best part is, though, you don't have to know much about either fandom--the story stands easily on its own.

Set aside a block of time to read this one; you won't want to stop reading. (as an aside, Stardust was the first NCIS fic I read--I've read it several times since, and still can't put it down, even now.) It's a great introduction to either fandom, and I've pointed it out to people who were curious about branching out.

Title: The Third by Thamiris
Pairing: Sirius/James, Remus/Lex, Lex/Sirius, Sirius/Remus
Rating:NC-17
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thamiris
Author's website: Odysseys and Ecstasy
Why this must be read:

This is a long (225K) AU set during the Marauders' time at Hogwarts, with special guest-character Lex Luthor as a transfer student. (He's a Slytherin, of course!)

One of the things I love about Tham's stories is her brilliant characterizations, and this story is no exception. By page two we know that James is an affable flirt; Remus is a quietly brilliant enigma; Lex is a reserved, potentially lethal problem; and Sirius -- well, I pretty much fell in love with Sirius, in all his arrogant, passionate, damaged glory. The story features evil plots, unrequited love, self-sacrificing friendships, some lava-hot snogging -- basically everything you need for a long, indulgent read. It's well worth a weekend.

Read and let Thamiris know how much you enjoyed it:

07:25 pm The Lost Colony by Joolz - R
Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS/NUM3ERS
Pairing:Gen - no pairing
Author on LJ:don't know
Author Website: http://www.geocities.com/joolz4me/Storygateindex.html
Why this must be read:

I bookmarked this story when it came thru the Wraithbait RSS. The Lost Colony presents an interesting view of the Atlantis' crew and integrates the characters (Charlie and Don) into the Atlantis world in a believable way.

I especially liked how it makes us the readers look at the Atlantis characters from different perspectives. Joolz escaped the clichés of geniuses meeting and wrote an especially intriguing Rodney, and a John with hidden depths. I don't know if Charlie and Don are in characters. I haven't watched Numb3rs really. Saw one or two episodes here and there. I knew enough to understand who the characters are basically. But I rather liked Don in this. I found Charlie a little helpless but then again maybe the character does get lost in his head. What do I know.

The writing is solid and entertaining. The puzzle is clever and this universe begs for a sequel which the author says maybe there might be one.

All and all an enjoyable read.

Title: Air Force Ones by Sheila
Pairing: gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mimesere
Author Website: mimesere
Why this must be read: This fic is like an OMC view of the Stargate universe, only instead of an OMC we see both the SGC and Atlantis through the eyes of VERONICA MAR’s Wallace Fennel. Through Wallace we get the outsider’s view that is what is great about OMC POV fics combined with the intimacy of knowing the character whose head we’re in; the combination makes for a great fic.

In Colorado he gets assigned to more training: a crash course in diplomacy, advanced field medicine, and an endless round of psych evaluations. Then finally there's an old guy -- a general -- with his hands in his pockets talking to some big black guy in a knit cap (Wallace is sure that no one else notices how *weird* that is because most people haven't had two years of Veronica Mars honing their keen observational skills, but a knit cap in August is fucking strange, even for Colorado) before he turns around and addresses the room full of good little soldiers.

Why this must be read:
That feeling - shivery, guts-in-a-knot, fearful, wildly indecisive *feeling* that comes just before the first step is taken.

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pqlaertes
Author Website: The Fake Book

Why this must be read:
Batman and LaCroix meeting? It's a setup for an interesting collision of personalities when Batman follows the Joker to Toronto. I wish this story were longer, but the setting and tone are dramatic and effective, and the author's style suits the encounter of two mythic creatures.

Title: The Man in the Window Seat by Shay Sheridan (G)
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski
Author on LJ: [personal profile] shayheyred
Author Website: Chez Shay
Why this must be read: Do you recall the famous words of John Greenleaf Whittier: “For all sad words of tongue and pen, The saddest are these, 'It might have been'.”? Ray doesn't. He boards a plane back to Chicago, leaving Fraser in Canada without ever speaking of his feelings. On the plane, he meets an older, wiser man who still asks himself 'What might have been'. Will he convince Ray not to make the same mistakes he made?

Author Website: Worlds As I Know Them
Why this must be read:

I'm not usually a fan of stories that crossover two science fiction shows. Usually the attempts to somehow create a cohesive story out of two complex and often contradictory universes just don't work for me. But this story works. I didn't have any trouble acceping the crossover between the universes and the characters rang completely true. Doctor Who is slowly becoming my new shiny fandom, and while I'm not as familiar with the Doctor as I am with the characters of Star Trek, I completely identified with the Doctor presented here. I don't want to summarize the plot or give anything away, but I will say that when I finished the story, I really wanted a sequel.

A very good story and an excellent blending of universes.

Title: Green Ice by Adina (PG)
Pairing: None (Bertie Wooster/Jeeves, if you're concentrating very hard)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] adina_atl
Author Website: check lj for updates
Why this must be read:

It could be the only crossover in this fandom (please, please correct me if I'm wrong. I yearn to be wrong on this one). It could also be one of the best crossovers written. The joy of this fabulous fic is, it opens up another superb fandom (set in the same era) for those who love Wodehouse, because you'll probably enjoy Dorothy L Sayers' work too. Sayers' major character Lord Peter Wimsey leads the way to a wholly unexpected view of Bertie Wooster, and his role in World War I.

Adina writes from Bertie's point of view, changing the way we see Wimsey, and allowing a new light to be shed on the possible tragedy of Bertie's own life. An amazing mix of Wooster fun and Wimsey mystery, and the peep into Bertie's mind is incredibly touching. I defy you to come away without at least a hint of a tear in your eye.
