Hi, I’m [livejournal.com profile] whisp. I'm a first time driver, but I have a nice little route planned out for the month, so sit back and enjoy the scenery. I’ll try to get a wide sampling, but I must warn you, I’m a slasher and I’m all for the Wes love. Happy reading!

Fandom: ANGEL
Pairing: Wes/Faith
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sophia_helix
Author Website: Into the Heart
Why this must be read:

After telling you I'm a slasher, of course I'm going to go off and rec a het fic. It's an AU off "Sleep Tight" (I have serious love for AUs, too), and is oh so good. Sophia hasn't written a lot in the Angel fandom, which is a shame because this fic packs a punch. She has a good handle on the characters and how they may have changed in the years since "Sleep Tight".

For fear of giving too much away, I'll keep it short. The fic centers around Wes, if he had managed to leave with Conner. A couple of years and a chance encounter later, the characters get a chance to learn a little about the meaning of forgiveness and grace.

To borrow from the author, it's a story about redemption. Maybe.

12:43 pm Screwed by Shrift and Te (NC-17)
Fandom: JUSTICE LEAGUE
Pairing: Green Lantern / Flash
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] shrift and [livejournal.com profile] thete1
Author Website: Teland and shrift's fan fiction
Why this must be read:

Back when the show was still known as simply Justice League, the slash pairing that ate the fandom was Green Lantern / Flash, better known as John/Wally. And what's not to love? Wally West's Flash is brash, inexperienced, quick to anger and even quicker to kindness. He was and is the fandom woobie. John Stewart is his polar opposite: former Marine and still a member of the GL Corps, tough as nails and straight as a line. Put them together, and sparks fly.

Shrift and Te? Get this. Really really well. In all their stories, they take the sparks that canon allowed us, and let them create something very hot. "Screwed" is one of the best examples of this. By turns hilariously in character and amazingly porny, we see of glimpse of how it could have started between the two men, as we also find out who really brought the Twinkies aboard the Watchtower.

Hi! I'm Faith, and I'm the this month's driver for the fandom of Battlestar Galactica. Such a long hiatus... but we've got some goodies to bide the time until October. I'll mainly focus on Kara/Lee, but I've got some interesting parings up my sleeve, so don't worry, there will be plenty of variety. :)

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003
Pairing: references to Kara/Lee, other parings mentioned
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hackaddict
Author Website: memories
Why this must be read: [livejournal.com profile] hackaddict's Possibility series takes a look at how things might have been had one vital moment been changed. This one looks at the "possibility" that Baltar had told the truth to Boomer during the events of "Flesh and Bone". The original characters in this piece definitely have character. I love this one so much, it's the link hiding underneath my flist. Just in case I misplace it. ;)

09:36 pm White Gowns For The Moon by Kirby Crow (NC-17)
Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] creedcascade and I'll be reccing for Firefly in July.

I am purely a slasher, so you'll be seeing only slash recs from me. My favourite pairing for this fandom is Mal/Simon. However, there is not a lot out there, so I'll be reccing a mixture of stories involving Mal, Simon and Jayne this month. I adore dark fiction. One of the reasons I love Firefly is that the characters live with such pain and their complicated backgrounds. It's an intelligent fandom with beautiful language and imagery.

Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Jayne/Simon, Mal/Simon
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kirby_crow
Author Website: http://slashgirls.tripod.com/firefly.html
Why this must be read:

This series was the first that came to mind when I thought of driving the Crack Van for this fandom. It is a favourite of mine that sticks in my mind and shiny for its beautiful darkness.

The first story in this series, The Wolf's Way was recced back in 2004. The reason I like this series is simple. It's dark and it's well written. Kirby doesn't pull punches exploring the relationship between all three men. The first story sets up the premise of a dark, intense relationship between Mal/Simon and it continues in "White Gowns For The Moon". Jayne unleashes something in Simon that Mal may not want to recognize. You see the cruelty of Mal that we saw hints of in "Serenity" the movie. Can he love someone who isn't ruined? Why bait Jayne with Simon?

Fandom: STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Author on LJ: No
Author Website: http://seacouver.slashcity.net/syn/index.html
Why this must be read:

This story is an all-time classic. It was originally published in the print fanzine “Sun and Shadow” in 1980.

This story has the power and elegance of a long-told legend. An unnamed Watcher - a wealthy, eccentric, clanless man - has spent many fruitless years asking strangers to tell their tales; always searching but never finding what he seeks. One night, he rescues a fugitive, and as the price of his aid, asks the young man to tell him his story. And as details of the man’s past emerges, the reader begins to understand...
