Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS Pairing: Ronon Dex/John Sheppard Author on LJ: rageprufrockAuthor Web site: GlitteratiWhy this must be read: This short piece encapsulates the thing I love best about Pru's writing: the bits of strange randomness that coalesce into meaning, a stray object linked to an emotion or a mental image, all of it somehow coming together into something greater than the parts. In "Still," Ronon inexplicably gives Sheppard a lump of clay. "What are you thinking of making?" Ronon asks later, and Sheppard answers, "I'll have to think about it...It's not every day you get nice clay." The notion of making (and unmaking) resonates through this story: Ronon's father makes Ronon's mother a house; Sleeping Beauty is made by her lover's kiss; and Ronon wants Sheppard to make this place home, to reshape their crushed and broken histories, to make Ronon a house or a door, something to walk to at the end of the day. Ronon wants Sheppard to make him something heavy like an anchor. Ronon wants stillness, wants the water to stop rolling around the city. Ronon wants whatever he can have here, but most selfishly of all, he wants something that all of Atlantis wants. Still by Pru (G)

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS Pairing: None Author on LJ: thisisboneAuthor Web site: BoneWhy this must be read: This is the story that made people talk about pudding. Pudding? Oh, yes. Pudding. Butterscotch pudding. I adore this short, happy fic, and it makes me giggle every darn time I read it: McKay steals Ronon's pudding, and Ronon goes after it. A...er...slight misunderstanding ensues on McKay's part during the Pudding Confrontation. I love it for McKay's magic hands and Ronon's tracking skills. And I love it for this: "McKay stole my pudding," he says.
Sheppard stops what he's doing, lifts his head and squints at Ronon. After a minute, he says, "You're a big boy, Ronon. Take it back."
"Can I use force?" Ronon asks.
Sheppard seems to think it over. "Was it butterscotch?"
Ronon nods so hard his braids bob.
"Go for it," Sheppard says, going back to his work. To Catch A Thief by Bone (G)There's also a sequel, a snippet called Butterscotch (Dex/Sheppard, R).

Fandom: STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES Pairing: Kirk/Spock Author on LJ: unknownAuthor Website: http://www.angelfire.com/trek/jesmihr/ Why this must be read:And now, after all the angsty stories I’ve recommended, it’s time for something a bit more lighthearted. Jesmihr does stories in a variety of moods, from romance to humor to more serious themes. In “Personal Effects”, the Edinian people, grateful for Spock’s help in repairing their computer system, present him with a gift: an android. A fully functional android. Kirk assumes Spock will react to this gift with either embarrassment or distaste. Kirk assumes Spock is going to return it right away. Kirk assumes wrong. Spock is quite fascinated with his new mechanical toy. And Kirk – suddenly, ferociously jealous - can’t stop thinking about what Spock and the android might be doing in the privacy of Spock’s quarters. I love the humor in this piece – humor which is beautifully balanced by the unexpressed longing both men feel for each other but have not, as yet, been able to communicate. http://www.angelfire.com/trek/jesmihr/Personal.html

Fandom: Farscape Pairing: John/Aeryn Author on LJ: kazbabyAuthor Website: Unrealized Realities Why this must be read:This is a look into the near future, at the family of the Sun-Crichtons. The first time he’d stepped from their transport, the sight immediately drew his attention, and he couldn’t help the smile that emerged. He’d seen a lot over of the cycles. Too much if you asked him at the right moment, but now it left John with the relief that that there were still some things that could give him the old sense of wonderment.
He’d stood there transfixed for several microts until Aeryn had given him a pat on the back and told him that the physicians were waiting for them. She’d pointed to where D’Argo had run ahead impatient and ready to explore the gardens that Pilot had shown them earlier in the day.A Time to Be Born

Fandom: JUSTICE LEAGUE Pairing: Hawkgirl / Green Lantern Author on LJ: xffan_2000Author Website: XFFan_2000's Justice League FanfictionWhy this must be read:As I said in my last rec, choosing just one story to rec for this pairing was very hard, so here's the second. This story takes place in that same wonderful time period in which the couple in question were shagging like bunnies, and explores the problems --- and pleasures --- of interspecies dating. Fandom: DC Comics Pairing: Hints of Batman/Superman Author on LJ: jen_in_japanAuthor Website: N/A Why this must be read: This aspect of Bruce Wayne’s comic history has rarely been touched on by authors. While the incident of Batman having his memory stolen took place in the final three issues of Batman Adventures, there is so much that can be used as fanfic material. And, in this case, jen_in_japan certainly delivers. She perfectly captures what would have happened in those issues if Superman had made an appearance. Bruce Wayne thinking himself to be a 7 year old is both cute, and funny, as are Superman's reactions (confusion for one) to everything that takes place when having to deal with a child-like Bruce Wayne.
