12:11 am Butterscotch by Caroline Crane (NC-17)
Fandom: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
Pairing: Nick/Greg
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] carolinecrane
Author Website: Desiderium Caritas
Why this must be read:

Smokin' hotel room sex. Except they're at a crime scene, and make it quick so Grissom doesn't find out. Not that that matters, because this is hot as hell, really.

And suddenly butterscotch was his favorite flavor, especially when it was butterscotch mingled with Greg. He had no idea what he would have done if there had been people in the room when Greg leaned in and just…breathed the words right against his skin, but he was grateful that for once they were alone. For once it was just him and Greg, the way it used to be before they became Nick-and-Greg, like a matched set. A secret nobody knew about, but they'd gotten enough looks from Grissom that he'd started keeping his distance on purpose, at least while they were at work.

Author Website: FF.net account

Why this must be read:
Oh dang. Again, I adore [Unknown site tag] so much, but it isn't just this fact that makes this a perfect fic. It embodies all of the good things abotu Freddy/Zack: it is funny, sexy, with a lot of drunkenness and teenage sexuality. Oh, and a heavy dose of profanity. Of course.

01:41 pm And We Didn't by Sarah Lou (PG-13)
Fandom: SCHOOL OF ROCK
Pairing: Zack/Someone + Freddy/Same Someone
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] omashiwawa
Author's Website: FFnet account

Why this must be read:

It's poignant, angsty. Compelling. It's "okay" when the kids are messed up when they're teenagers, because they are teenagers. But this explores what happens when they aren't teenagers anymore, when it's no longer "okay," when the consequences get bigger and badder. Also, a good, surprise ending.

01:53 pm In Spirit by Libra Three (NC-17)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] librathree
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:

I generally am not one for stories containing elements of the paranormal, but this story is so wonderful I didn't even notice what I was swallowing. Terrific writing, brilliant development of some favorite characters from the series, really tremendous turns of phrase, and a hot and tender first time coming together with an anxious awkward touch of realism that will move you. I promise.

Read In Spirit.

06:49 pm Retrograde by Martha Wilson (PG-13)
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: gen (though later parts include McKay/Teyla/Sheppard and Sheppard/Mitchell)
Author on lj: [livejournal.com profile] ltlj
Author's website: WaterGate
Why this story has to be read: Retrograde is an AU, based on the premise that the Atlantis mission went missing for three years.

The Atlantis expedition has been lost for three years. SG-1 goes to find them, and arrives just a little too late. The summary says, and that doesn't even begin to cover it. This fic hits so hard for me because the idea of being betrayed like this, by people you expect to be able to trust is just staggering. The distrust and brokeness and none of that coming from the Wraith, or some other foreign invader but from home knocks me on my ass just thinking about it.

The inclusion of SG-1 is very effective without in any way playing down the parts of the Atlantis people. And despite the fact that everyone is seen through the eyes of the SGC personnel, a very complete vision of each of the characters is given. Even Teyla, who's a bitch to write on a normal day, let alone when you've got to approach her from the point of view of an outsider. This fic isn't to be missed and considering I've recced to everyone I know I figured I'd give it its due here on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van

09:23 pm The Lies You Tell and the Truth You Don't 1 & 2 by ethrosdemon (NC 17)
Fandom: RPS
Pairing: Jensen Ackles/Tom Welling
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon
Author Website: Hug It Out
Why this must be read:

The is cracky and crazy in the best ways. It's got pranks (who doesn't love pranks) and boys being boys. The characterization rings as true as it can for RPS(since all RPS is MADE UP) and it's funny, a little dark and very twisted.

10:35 pm The Wallace Inquisition by Wynn (PG13)
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Pairing: n/a
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jwynn
Author Website: Sweet Melancholy
Why this must be read:

Fic about Wallace seems to be in short supply, and you can understand why when there are such huge main characters that dominate the show. But having a strong understanding of his character is wonderful to read, and Wynn has it down.

“Veronica?”

“Yeah?”

“Why is Logan Echolls staring at you like he’s the fat kid and you’re the cake?”

Why this must be read:

Stories around this kind of theme are kind of my not-so-secret passion; I love the structure and the way so much can be revealed around this familiar theme. This one tackles the ever-difficult relationship between Veronica and Logan, the things that happen and the things that don't.

There are five things that don't surprise Veronica Mars.

10:46 pm Surcease by Cori Lannam (PG)
Fandom: HOUSE
Pairing: House/Wilson
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] marzilla
Author Website: Cori Lannam's Fan Fiction

Why this must be read:
It is my great pleasure to start off the House recs for the month of August with this classic piece by Cori Lannam. "Surcease" is a missing scene from "Detox," one of the most important episodes of Season One. The conflict between House and Wilson and House's special mixture of bravado, stubbornness, and misery carry over into the story, and yet, ultimately it's a story about comfort. Money back garuantee if the last line doesn't make you melt!
