Fandom: HOUSE
Pairing: mostly gen, Wilson/Stacy alluded to
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] descrime
Author Website: n/a

Why this must be read:

"Wilson is a much better liar than House."

If you don't believe it, just read this fic. It's a group of eight missing scenes from various House episodes, and it nails the complexities of Wilson's character. He's devious; he's manipulative, and he's completely, devotedly loyal to House. I love the way this fic captures Wilson's desire to always do what he thinks is best for House, and how he isn't always justified or right. (But then again, sometimes he is!)

Beyond the excellent characterization, this story is impressive for how seamlessly the fiction is woven into canon. Each scene really does feel like it was an unfortunate last-minute cut. And each scene brings the themes of its subject episode into sharper focus, or allows the reader to view the canon in a different light. They're truly fine examples of the genre.

Fandom: FARSCAPE

Why this must be read:

Simply put, this is a hilarious, and not a little disturbing, view into the mind of John Crichton. Set during the season four opener Crichton Kicks, this fic takes what we already know to be true, that John doesn't handle loneliness very well, and expounds in greater Farscapian detail just how deeply into his head John goes for comfort.

Warning: your childhood is in danger here, but I promise you'll enjoy every minute of it.

05:52 pm Bring on the Night by Oceana (NC17)
FANDOM: NCIS
Pairing: Gibbs/DiNozzo
Author on LJ: Oceana_
Author Website: N/A

Why this must be read: This story knocks it out of the ballpark. Gibbs and Tony are Gibbs and Tony with no apologies. Tony loses himself to sensation and it's hot. Unbelievably hot. Scorching hot. Plus there's some angst. Gibbs and Tony are big magnets for some heart tripping angst. The kind that you want to witness and then want to see fixed right. now.

Oceana delivers the angst, the heat and a great ending that leaves the reader satified. Oh and there's finger porn. If you're into that kind of thing. And if you don't mind having your computer melt from the hotness of said finger porn. Seriously, have water on hand.

Okay, Tony thinks, one taste, and then he’ll leave. He lies back down again and kisses Gibbs’s fingertips. Softly, lips barely touching the skin. Just a taste.

09:54 pm Aphelion by Layton Colt (PG-13)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: none; River, Mal, Simon gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] laytoncolt
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] nixa_jane
Why this must be read:

Mal and Simon are captured by the blue hands guys and River tries to rescue them. Tight, suspenseful, in character - a gripping read.

"What exactly is the plan here, Doc?" he snaps.

Simon frowns. "I thought we were clear on that. You're going to head back to Serenity and get my sister as far from here as you can."

"And just where do you fit into that?" Mal demands.

"Do we care?" Jayne asks thinly, but is ignored.

"I'm going to draw them away," Simon tells them. "I'm the only one besides River that can, because they don't want any of you. If we all leave they'll chase us. Someone needs to stall them."

"That's a stupid plan," Mal says. "We run. Ain't like we've never outrun them before."

But River has said it's too late for running. She's rarely wrong.

09:55 pm Little Ray by Giuletta (PG13)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Gen - Vecchio
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mondschein1
Author Website: Fic in memories
Why this must be read:

Vecchio's life undercover in Vegas is a rich vein for writers - what he did, what it did to him. This is a great example of not only just that but also uses it as a springboard for a character study of Ray. The author manages to weave the two story threads together - and the formatting of the paragraphs back-and-forth really works - crossing Armando and Vecchio, 'til Ray isn't sure who he is.

The impetus of this story is the actions of a Vegas cop, Sandoval - who really works as an OC without saying a word, poor guy - almost breaking Vecchio's cover. The immediacy and speed of this thread contrasts with the other - Ray growing up in Chicago, frustrations with the PD, the mob, the FBI, all leading to Ray alone in a room in Vegas. The author breaks Ray - or watches him doing it to himself - but so elegantly.

11:46 pm Finding the Words by Freedomfry (PG)
Fandom: STAR WARS PT
Pairing: Gen
Length: 2,200 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] freedomfry
Author Website: Unknown

Why this must be read:

In this short fic we follow Obi-Wan's thoughts through his years of being a master to the Chosen One. At the beginning of the tale, Obi-Wan introduces Anakin to the Jedi library. Anakin thinks he should be in the dictionary next to the word "Skywalker." Since Skywalker is not in the dictionary, Obi-Wan comes up with other S words to describe Anakin.

As the years pass, Obi-Wan finds himself coming up with new S words to describe his young charge, even though Anakin has long since outgrown the game. Despite all the S words that fit Anakin, Obi-Wan is left without words in the end.

This fic gives the reader snapshots of everyday moments between Anakin and Obi-Wan. We can see their bond grow and develop, until Anakin severs it at the end of RotS. It's a quick read, and it stays very true to the characters and the overall Star Wars saga.
