10:46 am A bird in the hand, by Jamjar and Petra (NC-17)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Bruce Wayne/Nightwing
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jamjar and [livejournal.com profile] petronelle
Author Website: Jamjar's memories and Petra's Fanfic
Why this must be read:

One of the fun things about DC Comics fanfiction is the potential for identity porn: playing with the concept of the "cape" (the superhero persona) being different from the "civilian" persona. Marking the pairing as Bruce Wayne/Nightwing has a different significance than, say, Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson or Batman/Nightwing. Petra and Jamjar play with the concept of identity porn and who these characters really are in a story that is full of brain-twisty goodness and very hot smut. There are several more stories in this universe here.

Lady Mondegreen's Bower
Why this story must be read:

This story made an immediate impact with me when I read it first after Lady Mondegreen posted, and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since. It is a short conversation between Turnbull and Fraser after Fraser becomes permanently stationed to Chicago following the pilot, and I just love everything about this. It is my favorite crack senario, and I would love it if someone would explore this idea in a longer story. I don't want to give away what the exact premise is (because that would spoil the end) but suffice it to say that in my perfect alternate reality, this is my Turnbull. It is not long at all, so just give it a read! You really won't regret it.

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Scully/Pendrell, Mulder/Scully implied
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: CazQ's XF Fanfic
Why this must be read:

Like all of CazQ's writing, this is a gently lyrical piece. It's a beautiful depiction of the sweet, boyish Agent Pendrell, his depth of understanding and his chaste love. It's a bittersweet tale, full of angst and shining moments, Shakespeare and Camelot.

Even the knight un-named in epic, unsung by bards, has his defining instant of nobility and sacrifice. His moment in the light is ending, quick and bright as it was, but there may be a little light left in the sky yet for someone else before darkness and confusion falls.

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya
Author on LJ: No
Author Website: Author Site
Why this must be read:

If, like me, you never grew up, you will instantly warm to this delightful, evocative piece which takes our two heroes on a magical and playful journey.

You can almost smell the heat of a perfect summer's day, as the friends are roped into a highly unusual excursion. You will enjoy confusion and character quirks aplenty but there's something here, for me anyway, that whispers perfectly of the spirit of childhood, and the paradoxical innocence of this fandom's universe.

So take a nostalgic trip to a enviable world where it's always sunny in New York, friendship lasts forever and we will all grow up to be heroes.
