02:25 am The Prophet by doomcrayon (PG13)
Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003
Pairing: Kara, Lee, Simon
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] doomcrayon
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read: This is another story that I can't believe hasn't been rec'd earlier. doomcrayon premises this story with "Kara and Lee are held captive following a Cylon attack." and it is that, most definitely, but it's not only that. Well paced with clear writing, this story will stay with you long after you've finished reading.

07:49 am Hard To Say I'm Sorry: A film about *NSync by Sara (NC-17)
Fandom: Popslash.
Pairing: JC/Justin.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] addictedkitten.
Author Website: addicted.
Why this must be read:

Hard To Say I'm Sorry can best be summed up with this line: Steve stepped back, miming holding a camera. "Justin Timberlake, former boyband member turned solo artist turned boyband member again turned amateur documentarian. Does he know what he's doing? No, but isn't he cute?"

The setting: It's post-Hiatus and the boys are on the road again. This time around, Justin wants to document their lives both on & off the road. Only none of his bandmates is willing to cooperate. Well, except JC, but Justin suspects he's only amusing him. Probably.

08:03 am Human Activities by Sheldrake (G)
Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: gen; Rose Tyler, Sarah Jane, Jackie, Pete, Mickey, Jake
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sheldrake
Author Website: shelfic

Why this must be read: An absolutely lovely story about Rose post-Doomsday, and the new universe she's living in. With a great structure around ecosystems - or habitats - we get a Rose who is studying for an A-level, has made friends with the alt!Sarah Jane, investigates alien toasters-that-might-be-weapons with Mickey and Jake, and generally is living her life, the way the Doctor would want her to. There's some very funny bits, some very thoughtful and touching bits, some melancholy (because this Rose is real, with all the human emotions that go with that), and a strong, hopeful ending. I just love Rose in this, and it's the Rose I was longing to see, post-Doomsday.

09:10 am "Handled with a Chain" by Rhiannon Shaw (NC-17)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] gryphonrhi
Author Website: Rhiannon's Eyrie
Characters: James Horton, Joe Dawson
Why this must be read: If Highlander had a weakness, it was it's villains. They were often caricatures. Even when well-acted, they were never fleshed out as characters. So when I read fanfic that makes me really get one of the bad guys, it makes the whole show work better for me.

This short story by Rhi delves into the mind of James Horton. As leader of the Hunters, Horton was guilty of murder, betrayal, and fanatic hatred of Immortals. Read this story and you'll understand just what pushed him over the edge.

11:24 pm Every Day a Little Death: The Killing Joke Remix by thepurpleswitch (PG-13)
Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT
Pairing: Casey/Dan
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thepurpleswitch
Author Website: and chimeras

Why this must be read: There's an element of self-indulgence in this: this is [livejournal.com profile] thepurpleswitch's contribution to this year's [livejournal.com profile] remixredux, and the story she based it on is one of mine (we ended up remixing one another, in fact; maybe next year there'll be more SN authors to go around. Or fewer. But that would be sad). It was interesting to me to see how another author could take a few words in common with some of mine and show all the other faces and facets potential in what was originally a pretty one-dimensional bit of fic. For everyone else? It's just a bloody good piece of writing. And as for the ending … good lord. I totally didn't see that coming!
