02:08 am The First Thanksgiving by eboniorchid (NC17)
Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: Jack Harkness/Sam Winchester
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] eboniorchid
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] writingbyebonio
Why this must be read:

Because I was threatened with bodily harm if I didn't rec this as the crossover day story? Quite understandably though because oh my god this story is fantastic the author lists it as Doctor Who/Supernatural but it's really pre-series Jack and, well, he reacts to Sam Winchester as most of us do. Rampant glee.

Seriously though this story is just an incredibly fun, incredibly insightful, and incredibly *HOT* read.

02:47 am Twin Peaks/X-Files (NC-17)
Title: The Bureau, by Hth
Pairing: Dale Cooper/Fox Mulder; refs to Cooper/Rosenfield, Cooper/Annie, Mulder/Scully, Mulder/Krycek
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hth_the_first
Author Website: Sweet Dreams
Warnings: Spoilers for Twin Peaks season two, w/ post-series extrapolations; spoilers for The X-Files through season four
Why this must be read:

This was one of the earliest TP/XF fics I read and it remains a favorite, even though Hth claims, “It was the first full-length slash story I ever wrote, and it's just. Not what I wish it were.” The story does have its flaws — apparently Albert’s changed his last name to Rosenthal — but Hth treats all of the characters with sympathy, understanding, and no small amount of wit.

‘‘I happen to know some fine agents in the DEA. Actually, one of them reminds me a great deal of you.’’ )

If nothing else, read it for the spectacle of two attractive, haunted men attempting to prove “that when the human body is invoked, the human soul has remarkable powers of recuperation.”

Why this must be read:

Despite being merely suggestive, this is one of the sexiest fics I've read in the fandom. It also draws a rare characterization of Jack, revealing a younger, quieter side of him that works beautifully.

He smoothes the paper together with his thumb, and Jack is fascinated by the slight, subtle movement. There's tobacco sticking out of the ends of the cigarette; Race uses the thumbnail of his other hand to snip it off.

"You got pretty good at that," Jack says. "Doin' it one handed, now."

Race raises an eyebrow. "You know a lot about doin' things with one hand, Cowboy?"

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] solargoth
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: No rec set is really complete without a tragic love triangle, in my opinion. Fortunately, [livejournal.com profile] solargoth has provided me with the perfect story with which to fill this essential niche. Look, I can't even begin to do justice to the emotional depth of this piece. It's glorious. You should go read it right now. The end.

Author Website: Infinity
Why this must be read:

This is a fic I found just recently and it's only a short drabble of a thing, but what a short drabble it is! It's not lacking a single thing for length. Haiku-like and beautiful, it's a snapshot of a moment, a person, who Desire visited, and changed. It's the type of story which keeps unfolding--shifting--every time it's read. The language, especially, is what keeps me coming back.

07:52 pm Unmasked by nautica7mk (PG-13)
Fandom: SUPERMAN
Pairing: Lois/Superman, Lois/Clark
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nautica7mk
Author Website: happyending.org
Why this must be read: This story's all about family and that's a wonderfully domestic take on the aftermath of Superman Returns. Weaving in a few other familiar figures from the DC universe, this story takes the time to let all the characters have their moment in the sun, from Martha Kent to young Jason, to Richard and Lois and Clark.

Title: Here is a Wonder, if You Talk of a Wonder
Pairing: Duck MacDonald / Dan Jarvis
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lozenger8
Author Website: In Memories
Why this must be read:

Slings and Arrows is a delightfully witty and funny Canadian TV show starring Paul Gross about a regional theater company that also stars the usual suspects of Canadian cinema like Mark McKinney, Martha Burns, and Don McKellar. In this story the theater company is hired to put on a showing of Taming of the Shrew for the Second Annual Wilby Days Festival.

I really like the outsider, slightly cracked yet insightful, view of Wilby and its citizens. Wilby is there in all its quaint yet rough glory and the citizens wander in and out as the company rehearses for their production. Geoffrey's characterization is delightfully contemplative and observant with just the right off-kilter kick and his understanding of Duck's character is particularly insightful.

Duck was possessed of an inner violence too, and was more skilled in hiding it. In many ways, Geoffrey felt, Duck was a better actor than he ever was. )

10:11 pm Twin Peaks/The Blair Witch Project (PG-13)
Title: The Blue Rose Project, by Michael S. Lucart (AKA GlitterRock)
Pairing: none (gen/horror)
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: The Lair of GlitterRock
Warnings: Spoilers for TP s2, Fire Walk with Me, and The Blair Witch Project
Why this must be read:

In FWWM, it’s implied that the FBI’s awareness of the preternatural entities who Agent Cooper encounters in Twin Peaks predates Laura Palmer’s death. Apparently, Gordon Cole occasionally sends trusted and uniquely qualified agents, like Cooper, to investigate what are known as “blue rose cases.”

Inspired by the pre-release speculation about The Blair Witch Project, GlitterRock suggests that more blue roses sprouted after Twin Peaks. Perhaps one appeared in Maryland, where three student filmmakers vanished while they were making a documentary about a local legend...
I'm in Burkittsville. Looks like a nice quiet little town. But it's the quiet ones we have to be careful of, right, Gordon?
