Why this must be read:

One of the inaugural offerings in the new community [livejournal.com profile] wilbywednesday's and a great addition to the fandom. This is an honest and stark look at the cost of Dan's closeted life and how it is suffocating him even before the scandal at the Watch happens. I really loved how it is Duck's intimate understanding of being in Dan's shoes in the past that is both the motivation for his understanding of as well as his attraction for Dan.

It's a desperate kind of unhappiness that the Watch breeds in people, and Duck knows it intimately )

12:57 am O*F*F*I*C*E by Annakovsky (PG)
Fandom: THE OFFICE
Pairing: all canon pairings
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] annakovsky
Author Website: annakovsky.com
Why this must be read:

The Office and M*A*S*H are both shows about people bonding over being stuck somewhere they don't want to be -- this fic takes that concept and runs with it, picking up the Office characters and dropping them in this other world, and it works like you wouldn't believe. So much UST and funniness and ennui, all mixed up together, and totally unique.

"Angela crosses her arms across her chest and looks disapproving. "My nurses need to use those showers. And I don't think that men should be waltzing in and out of there with their foot lockers and cots. It's against regulations."

"Dwight, I am surprised at you," Jim says. "And you're always so good at regulations.""

Why this must be read:

Although it is a sequel to the author's story Change of Days (which is also great so go read that as well!), I think it can it can stand alone and I prefer the ache of this story. Dan is troubled and torn and has a hard time accepting the irrevocableness of his actions. Duck is caught in Dan's regrets.

We don't know much about Dan and Val's marriage in canon, and I really love this take on Dan's need for Val and the veil of normalcy she provided and how that prevents him from moving forward with Duck unhampered.

Duck waved but his hand dropped when he saw the paper crumpled in Dan's fist and the wild, grieving anger in his eyes as he came close. "Duck?" )
