Fandom: SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair

Why this must be read:

I first read this story because it was a Sentinelization of an anthology I quite liked, but it really has a character all its own. Lt. Colonel James Ellison, discharged due to injury, buys a forclosed loft in Cascade while he tries to put his life back together. But while the previous owner may be dead, he certainly isn't gone...

He managed to take the fall correctly, body going limp, one hand slapping the floor to expend some of the force. But there was no chance he was going to be able to get up any time soon, either, even if he had been able to move through the pain. Every muscle in his leg knotted up, cramps stabbing into him, and he pounded on his good thigh, trying to literally beat down some of the agony.

**Breathe**

The soft whisper didn't make any sense, he *was* breathing, damn it, when he could force air past the lump of stiffled screams in his throat.

**Breathe**

In was an insistent suggestion, threading its way past the obstacles between it and Jim's attention. "I *am* breathing," he ground out, unthinkingly.

**No, like this.** The unseen speaker sucked in a huge draft of air through his nose, then let it go in a long, slow blow through his mouth.

Why this must be read:

Because sometimes you just need hot, uncomplicated sex. And lots of it.

"So you wanna do that for six weeks," Jim said, rubbing his hand clean on the sheets and bringing it up to the back of Blair's neck.

"Well, not six weeks continually," Blair clarified. "I mean, I'd probably want a break for sleeping and eating and stuff. Every couple of days."

"Jeez, it's nothing but demands," Jim said. "Next thing I know you'll be unionizing."

"Hey, man, my generation are, like, free agents," Blair said loftily. "If we feel unappreciated at our current employment, we take our services elsewhere."

"Your generation my ass," Jim said. "You don't get a generation. You're in your own category."

"Sure. First it's no sleeping breaks and now you're trying to isolate me from my peer group," Blair said. "I'm working on my resume even as we speak, Jim."

Why this must be read: Did I mention this fandom has good poetry? *g*

And yet another one. The author calls this a drabble, but it's poetry. Truly.

In C.S. Forester's canon he links William Bush with the ship of the line, H.M.S. Temeraire. Not only placing Bush on that ship during the Battle of Trafalgar, but also peppering the canon with metaphorical references, linking Bush and his life with the real life fate of that fabled ship. In this poem, [livejournal.com profile] idler_1814 forges a chain between them of her own.
