01:59 am Let You Go by Paddy (PG-13)
Fandom: QUEER AS FOLK UK
Pairing: Stuart/Vince
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Paddy's Fics @ Across the Pond
Why this must be read:

This is a beautiful, angsty future fic about Vince dealing with Hazel's death. I love the relationship between Vince and Hazel; really I just plain love Hazel. I like Stuart and Vince's relationship as portrayed in this story, as well. They've been together for years, and even though Stuart's still a bastard, he takes care of things when Vince can't. This story is a fantastic love story for Hazel's character.

11:21 am Losing Sleep by A. Kelley Nolan (PG)
Hello, I'm [livejournal.com profile] tree, once again reccing for The X Files. I've been terribly lax and unorganised this month, trying to come up with a theme. So, since it's Valentine's Day quite soon, I thought I'd make this month about comfort fic - things that I read again and again because they make me all gooey inside. Prepare yourselves for mushy MSR!

Fandom: THE X FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: All MSR, all the time.
Why this must be read:

Kelley is a relative newcomer to the XF fanfic scene. She exploded on the mid-year Gossamer update with several MSR fics and was recced very highly all over the place. Her writing is well-crafted, her wielding of emotion subtle and her characterisations of Mulder and Scully profound. This vignette is a lovely bedtime story about the long progression of an unconventional romance.

Read Losing Sleep.

03:01 pm The Silver Lady by Mnemosyne (PG13)
Fandom: KING ARTHUR (2004)
Pairing: Guinevere/Arthur; Guinevere/Lancelot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] literarylemming
Author Website: The Seventeenth Ring
Why this must be read: I first started talking to Melissa through Livejournal and through KAFF. While I'm not a follower of the love triangle of Arthur/Lancelot/Guinevere anymore in this 'verse, this is one of the stories that I still enjoy and still sigh over. It is lyrical in its prose and the imagery is vivid and heart-rending.

I love the idea of the small amount of magic in this piece - the film basically cut out all ideas of magic in its retelling of Arthur, and while that works for the film, the idea of the magic involved in a blood ritual to call on a lost loved one works for any fandom.

This is a post movie AU, and features Guinevere, while married to Arthur, sill mourning Lancelot's death.

Melissa's Arthur is only in this fic for a small scene, but he's wonderful and steadfast and very human.

Here's The Silver Lady by Mnemosyne.

Each man, woman and child who saw the gray lady let her take a measure of their own sorrow, until it surrounded her like a shroud; living or dead, flesh or fairy, she had become a touchstone for the living to make their peace with the dead. They let her pass unmolested, and never a word was spoken to the Silver Lady. In exchange, she bore their silent prayers, painful regrets, secret hopes and lingering desires, and carried them on small feet into the dark forest that loomed in the shadow of Arthur's fortress.

Two men knew the Lady's name. One was her lord, and he spoke not a word. The other was her lover, and he dwelt with the dead.
