Author Website: ...sparkle and shine...
Why this must be read: This is MPRG, but don't let that scare you away. This is so beautifully written, the language just flows over you like a song, and I often go back and reread this one. And hey, here's a surprise, it's another reunion story.

Fandom: STARGATE: ATLANTIS
Pairing: Rodney McKay/Ronon Dex; John Sheppard/Rodney McKay
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mirabile_dictu
Author Website: Mirabile Dictu's Fanfiction

Why this must be read:
This one will please John/Rodney shippers as well the Ronon/Rodney fans, because the McDex is a conduit to John and Rodney getting together. I am recommending this story because Ronon is amazing in how he sees to the heart of what John and Rodney both need.

02:29 pm Someone to Watch over me by MAC (PG-13)
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: Chris/Ezra
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:

Sometimes you want a fic that just leaves you with a happy feeling, and MAC is very good at that. This fic is simple but effective, instead of throwing two characters together suddenly in a fit of passion (as I have a tendency to do ;) it’s a simple sweet tale of realizing that feelings are there through familiarity.

04:15 pm Tacet, by Marguerite (PG-13)
Fandom: The West Wing
Pairing: CJ/Simon, CJ/Toby
Author Website: Marguerite's Fiction

Why this must be read:
This series is four post-ep vignettes for Posse Comitatus. Marguerite is an amazing writer, and I know she's been recced here before, but I thought people might like to have this story pointed out. It's my favorite CJ/Simon story, and it's simultaneously heartbreaking and life-affirming. It's really, really beautiful, so go read, but make sure you have tissues!

Excerpt:
The neon lights are bright on Broadway, and they are changing the colors of her
gown. Black, then blue. Blue, then silver, then turning red and orange and
purple. Simon had seen her trying on the gown, had liked what he'd seen. She
could tell from the way his eyes widened and he started breathing through his
mouth.

Was his mouth frozen in a cry that he'd never finished? Were his eyes still
open, or had some brotherly hand reached down to slide the lids together? Where
was the gun she'd fired at the range, the one that had heated up her slim hands
and sent her reeling backwards, and why hadn't it saved him?

Why this must be read:
Lovely John voice is the reason this story isn't to be missed. The glasses fetish that this John has in this story is one I share (there's nothing like a cute boy in glasses--check out the cover if you don't believe me). There's an upbeat tempo to this story that pleases.

06:51 pm Good Guys Don't Wear White by Glossolalia (NC-17
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Bruce Wayne/Jason Todd (Batman/Robin)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] glossing
Author Website: fanfic by glossolalia

Why this must be read:
I love this story because the Jason POV rocks hard (yeah, I know I am not the most experienced Robin II fan, so maybe my opnion is suspect...whatever). I dig Punk!Jason in this story, and it makes me want to kick some bad guy ass right now. Also, Stalker!Timmy appears, and I heartheartheart that freakish aspect of his obsessive personality.

BTW, I don't consider this RPF just because Ian MacKaye (hardcore musician of Fugazi and other bands) apppears in a cameo. You might feel differently, but it didn't feel relevant. *shrugs*

07:10 pm Peaceable, by Dilanne Thomas (PG-13)
Fandom: Due South
Pairing: None
Author's website: Four stories archived here.

Why this story must be read: Besides the fact that it's incredibly well written with a gripping plot that will keep you hooked right to the end, it's fascinating to see how Benton's loyalty and honour can so easily be his undoing. When Fraser is arrested for assaulting a man in an alleyway, his refusal to divulge the events that lead to the fight make it impossible to tell if he's as innocent as Ray Vecchio wants to believe. The love between them is so tangible that you almost want it to be a love story, but in some ways the fact that it's not makes it more satisfying - it's purely a mystery, a tale of right and wrong versus legal and illegal, a story about honour and self-sacrifice.

07:25 pm 5 Ways the Arrow Missed by guede_mazaka (PG13)
Fandom: KING ARTHUR (2004)
Pairing: Arthur/Lancelot; Arthur/Lancelot/Guinevere
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] guede_mazaka
Author Website: (or a link to where more of their fic is archived)Here
Why this must be read:

There are multiple fics like this in every fandom, where basically the idea is to take a character or characters and change their outcome or future. The reason I've chosen to include this one is to showcase its delicate, flowery, aching words and its ability to make me cry for want of a different finish for one of my favorite characters in any fandom. *flails fists at screenwriters*

Guede's summary of this is "other possibilities," which definitely describes this fic. It's sectioned into five parts, each one a different outcome for Lancelot.

Five Ways The Arrow Missed can be found here.

I've got one more day to rec KA stuff, and will also include a video tomorrow as well, if the mods are okay with that.

07:40 pm Isometry by syntax6 (NC-17)
Fandom: THE X FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: home of the slug slayer
Why this must be read:

It's hard for me to believe no one has rec'd any syntax6 yet, so I feel it my duty to do so now. This is a little different from the rest of my comfort fic so far. Firstly, it's much longer than any of the others. Secondly, it has the cancer arc as its backdrop: a rather unhappy premise. Syntax6 is most known for her excellent casefiles. Although there's no casefile here, unless you count the cancer, Isometry is written with the same depth of understanding of the Mulder/Scully dynamic that Syntax6 brings to her casefiles. And I think writing realistic relationship development during this arc takes a great deal of talent. There are comic as well as tragic moments in this tale, and particularly poignant counterpoints to several well-loved season four episodes. There's also an OFC, creating a little Mulder/Other tension. But never fear, the true schmoop is MSR all the way. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll never look at a pickle the same way again.

Read Isometry.

07:51 pm The Long Way Home, by Morgan Dawn and Justine Bennett (NC-17)
Fandom: Due South
Pairing: Fraser/Vecchio
Author's website: http://www.morgandawn.com/fanfic.htm

Why this story must be read: Okay, this is not an easy read. In some places, it's downright gruelling - Fraser and Vecchio, on their way home from an extended vacation repairing Bob's cabin, discover that civilization as they know it has pretty much ended due to a widespread epidemic. Along with a mixed-up group of tourists and natives, they must set about building their own community, dealing with the possible loss of everyone they know and wondering if they themselves are infected. Vecchio's perspective is sustained terrifically well throughout this novel-length story, and it's tough to see him realise just what it means to see Fraser surviving in the wild. But having said that, it's a thoroughly incredible piece of fiction, amazingly well written and so involving. There are mentions of Fraser/Vecchio, but the focus of the story is really their friendship more than the development of the relationship into something else.

08:23 pm Fake by Lonelywalker (PG)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Leroy Jethro Gibbs / Donald 'Ducky' Mallard
Author LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lonelywalker
Author website: World on a Wire / Lonelywalker's fanfiction

Why this must be read:

Gibbs and Tony go undercover as gay men.

I've seen many fics about with this as a plot, but trust me, this one is entirely different.

As I'm afraid to spoil the plot, I'm not saying more about this fic and the brilliance that is Lonelywalker.
