Fandom: BtVS Pairing: Giles/Buffy Author on LJ: not that I know of Author's website: Her Stalwart Standing FastWhy this must be read: A post- Gift epic, J.K. practically channels the writers of the show in this trilogy. It's how Giles deals with Buffy's sacrifice to save Dawn and how he comes to the realization that he loves her, and not as a daughter. What's really amazing about this fic is that is was written before season six aired and it's stunning how close J.K. got to the actual events of that season. An amazing read that deals with the aftermath of Buffy's death, where she was while she was gone, her resurrection and it's aftermath. Throw in Ethan Rayne and Wolfram and Hart and you have an epic to behold. Death Brings Clarity

Fandom: BtVS Pairing: Giles/Xander Author on LJ: soft_princessAuthor's website: Fly With MeWhy this must be read: Giles and Xander get lost, maybe. Sofy writes Giles and Xander very well. Wonderful characterization, great banter and hot sex, in the Citreon no less. What more could a person ask for than that? Lost in Outer Space

Fandom: Narnia Pairing: Lucy/Caspian Author on LJ: thermidorWhy this story must be read:This lovely crossover with the Sandman brings out the best in both worlds, while retaining that wonder that readers of Narnia first come to with the books. It also puts this somewhat popular context into perhaps a more age-appropriate context via the careful use of a magical mirror, as one is wont to do. Lucy, called the Valiant, Brave and Lovely Queen of Narnia, was not presently feeling valiant at all. She was puzzled, and not by great and solemn affairs of state as one might expect, but over a piece of furniture. Now, those who know the story of how Lucy and her brothers and sister came to Narnia might think that she had good cause to fret over a piece of furniture. This, however, was no strange forgotten piece brought up from a back room. It was a newly carved, wooden-framed floor mirror, and it came from the shop of a well-known and respected craftsman. (Perhaps to be perfectly fair, it should be mentioned that the woodworker's son later did not become a master craftsman himself, but a respected magician, but no one knew this at the time.)Lucy and the Looking Glass

Fandom: Narnia Author on LJ: miladygreyWhy this story must be read:A deft, compelling crossover between Lord of the Rings and Narnia, this story brings Aslan in all his patient, awe-inspiring glory into the lyrical and heartbreaking point in the journey of the Fellowship. As Boromir questions the very foundations of himself, Aslan, unnamed but still powerful, offers some hope--hope that is left for Boromir to seek. A son of Gondor would not keep what was not rightfully his. How strange that the little one would be so possessive of so small a thing. Almost unnatural--
"It binds you even now."
The voice, rich and deep, vibrated through him, and he stopped where he was. Wherever he was. A glade (there seemed to be a preponderance of those in Lorien), so thickly overshadowed with trees that the moonlight was intermittent at best. Silver flickered on the small pool of water, over low slabs of stone. The lyon shone with his own soft light.Of Hearts, and Dragons, and Songs

Fandom: HOUSE Pairing: House/Cameron Author on LJ: synaesthete7Author Website: Mystic Wild ParabolaWhy this must be read:Allow me to preface this rec by saying that I am not a House/Cameron shipper. The immediate corollary, that I hate one or both of them or simply the idea of them together unto the point of nausea, is not borne out, however. I like Cameron; I like the potential she has as a character. I like House; I like him even better when he's all-knowing and sarcastic and yet those who know him can still bring him down a peg. What I like best, then, is when Cameron is written as someone who knows her weaknesses and decides to take charge and grow up a little; when House is written as a guy who's not sure what he wants until he figures it out on his own; and when, together, they're written without sappiness or anything resembling first names or spawn. After all, this is romance, written House-style. Galatea

Fandom: LOTRIPS Pairing: Billy/Dom Author on LJ: magickalmollyAuthor Website: Welcome to Hobbiton / LJ memoriesWhy this must be read: Wing!fic is a very peculiar subgenre in Lotrips fandom - sadly the archive where you could find most of the stories is no longer around. Still, this is the story that got me, with its dreamlike fairy tale atmosphere. Just beautiful. Billy never let go of Dominic’s hand as they rose into the air, leading him high above the forest behind their home. Dominic laughed as they flew, the sound high and light and full of all the joy he couldn’t contain inside, and he looked to Billy again and again, letting his love show plain on his face. The feeling of being so far above the ground, propelled by his own power (and the reassuring presence of Billy’s firm grip) transcended his happiness to euphoria. He felt like he could hold the moonlight in his hand.Let Me Give You Wings

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL Pairing: GEN Author on LJ: onelittlesleepAuthor Website: author's memoried list of fics Why this must be read:I'm going to have a hard time talking about this one without spoiling y'all, but I'm going to try. First of all, it's amazingly good writing. Second, it's got great characterization. The brothers, the car, a road trip. She's got such a fantastic grasp on them, such a wonderful way to bring them alive in her words and just... yes. And without spoiling you too much, let's just say that it's a road trip you'll want to read about because... well. It's an important one. It's an unexpected and thrilling ride, one that nobody should miss. It unfolds slowly but inevitably, with gorgeous writing and atmosphere and spot on voices and I'm repeating myself now, so... just go read it, I'm pretty sure you won't regret it. ;-) But I Never Could Sharpen No Blade, Quite the Way He Say
