Fandom: X-Files Pairing: Mulder/Scully Author Website: Couldn't find one. :( Why this must be read:This is a fun little fic that explores the common theme of how Mulder and Scully eventually fall into bed in a funny and refreshing way. Plus, Scully gets to kick ass, which I always appreciate There's some great banter and some very hot smut, so what are you waiting for? Excerpt: "Mulder, why are you calling?" And why did she think her weekend with no partner was about to become a lost cause?
"Didn't know I needed a reason other than to hear your lovely voice ..."
Crickets.
"Anyway, I was just wondering ... Did you see there's a shooting competition at Quantico tomorrow?" She heard the hope and the hesitation in his voice, and she pre-empted his strike.
"You signed me up."
"Well ... "
"Mulder, I have better things to do with my time than poke holes in paper men. You seem so excited about it, why aren't you doing it?"
"Scully, you and I both know that some days I couldn't find the kill zone with six hands and klieg lights. Think of this as a chance to shine, to chalk up another one for the fairer sex, to pull one over on the old boys' network that is the FBI."
"You bet on me, too."
"Um. Yes."
"Mulder! How much?"
"Not ... too much ..."
"Mulder." She used the tell-me-now-or-die-slowly-in-a-lot- of-pain voice.
He tried to slur the words, slide it past her. "Senfiff. But it --"
"SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS? Mulder, are you *nuts*? Why? How?"Saturday Night Special

Fandom: STARGATE SG-1 Pairing: Cameron/Other Author on LJ: saeva and verstehenAuthor Website: Koanju saeva's solo SG1 can be found here, verstehen's solo-SG1 can be found here and their joint efforts hereWhy this must be read:One thing I have always had much wish for on SG1 is seeing someone living the life of the SGC but having a spouse that doesn't. We know that every day in our respective militaries there are men and women who cannot tell their spouses anything of what they're doing day to day and they have to learn how to make a life with it. I had hoped that with Cameron Mitchell we might finally get that but, alas, no. Well, what the show doesn't give the fans do and the authors of this one did it with Cam beautifully. I love his wife, I love the life they have that's hinted here and this story does not get enough love and it should. Omissions of the Omen

Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: Chris/JC Author on LJ: jchaloAuthor Website: ImprovidenceWhy this must be read: Because jchalo writes delicate, sparse, gorgeous prose that's close to poetry and then snaps in something so funny you don't realise that your heart is being quietly stolen away. She writes like Tori Amos sings. Plus this is a phone sex worker AU. You just gotta read it. (Then go read He Likes To Watch for the hot, Making It Work for the funny bitchy, and Hot for the devastating. "Eighteen seconds." Chris stuffs a handful of popcorn in his mouth and nods emphatically. "No, man-- I swear. Eighteen seconds. I barely even finished telling him what I was wearing before he was groaning in my earpiece."
"Wow." JC shakes his head. "You timed him?"
Chris frowns. "You're totally missing the point here, dude, but yeah-- I timed him. I time everybody. It's how I keep from going insane."262 974.383

Fandom: STAR WARS: PREQUELS Pairing: Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon Author on LJ: crimsonquillsAuthor Website: Crimson QuillsWhy this must be read: This is a lovely AU, about Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon coming together in a world where they only meet after Obi-Wan is knighted. Nix has a beautifully eloquent style, one that reminds me of the Jedi Order itself--calm, flowing, graceful, but full of fire when needed. It's a pretty long story, most of it about Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan getting to know each other and getting closer, but there does end up being plot beyond the romance. Really, this is just a gorgeous story, one of the first Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan fics I read, and one that still always makes me smile. ( Excerpt )A Light to Guide You

Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT Pairing: Casey/Dan Author on LJ: layleeAuthor Website: N/A; fic is archived in her LJ memories Why this must be read: I generally choose newer fics for these recs, but this goes back to the glory days of the second wave of SN fandom, after the DVD set had been released and the show started to air outside the USA, and when laylee was one of a small group of writers posting new fic on a regular basis. This story gives us Dan and Casey settled and happy in a established, loving relationship; we see Dan through Casey's eyes as they share bathroom space, go out to ball games, go clubbing (Dan dances; Casey watches), conspire to get Charlie away from Lisa for a vacation, and as a news story rocks Dan's world and turns it briefly dark. But, overall, as the title says – it's a wonderful life. And this is a wonderful, wonderful story. laylee still turns out the occasional, always excellent, SN fic, and also finds time to maintain snarchive; I recommend checking both out. Casey is asked to sign as well but it's Danny who basks in the afterglow of recognition for the remainder of the day. Casey knows Danny loves the attention. He will pretend to blow it off as nothing, but really he loves it. It makes him feel needed and appreciated and loved. Casey wants to point out that he needs and appreciates and loves him but Danny knows that already. It's the rest of the world he's unsure about. It's a Wonderful Life

Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Pairing: None Author on LJ: edoraslassAuthor Website: None. Her work is scattered all over the place: Henneth Annun, Stories of Arda, FanFiction.net, Tolkien_weekly, and _norrington. She does, however, always seem to write under the name EdorasLass. Why this must be read: And how mad is that, to be flirted with by a figment of one’s own imagination? There’s something very Dana Scully about James Norrington: he’s *never* willing to believe a supernatural explanation for anything—usually until it tries to kill him. Therefore, his rescuer from the hurricane in this fic is definitely the last, er, person he’d expect. This is an original character which made me gleeful to read (instead of scrambling for the Back button as I usually do with OCs). James is perfectly rendered as well: in turns, regretful, snarky, clever, desperately trying to hold on to his dignity, but just beginning the downward spiral from Commodore to Scruffington.
