Fandom: HEROES Pairing: None. Gen. Author on LJ: lyra_wingAuthor Website: None. Why this must be read: "Six Months Ago" was a great episode for the fandom at large, canonically expanding what we know about the characters and giving us plenty of room to construct fanon. lyra_wing takes full advantage of that room, combining it with her amazing gift for character voice. lyra_wing takes the gap between those six months and "the present" and creates a character study that sounds and feels like something that could be from the show itself; Nathan coming to terms with (and rationalizing) the changes and people in his life. And really, because I can't emphasize it enough, the voices are just spectacular; Lyra has a gift for both dialogue in general and in intuiting the cadences of her particular characters in specific. Fandom: X-Files Pairing: Mulder/Scully UST Author Website: It's Just a CatWhy this must be read: Scully wants Mulder to get up, but instead he thinks about their long trip back from Antarctica. This is a really fun fic that examines something that a lot of fics and canon itself frequently gloss over - the physical repercussions of the active lives our favorite agents lead. The tension and UST between Mulder and Scully is really perfect here - compelling but not all-consuming. It's one of my favorite post-Fight the Future fics, and I hope y'all enjoy it! Excerpt: "Get up, Mulder," Scully was saying. "Get up, now."
Mulder was too warm, too tired to get up.
"Get up, Mulder."
Why wouldn't she let him sleep? She wouldn't like it if he suddenly started pounding on her bedroom door. "There better be a fire, Mulder," she had grumbled one time, when he'd tried to get her out of a hotel room for an early breakfast. Like this fertilizer detail was so urgent.Get Up, Mulder

Fandom: WOMEN'S BUSINESS Pairing: None Author on LJ: fox1013 and jennyoAuthor Website: the inner geekdom and Jennyo's I'm Just Sayin'Why this must be read: Oh my God! *wheezes with laughter* This story is totally wicked and utterly delicious. I think it may be my new favourite RPF story absolutely of all time. It's about the Canadian Actor Mafia, and how Mary McDonnell manipulates everything to suit her whims. It's utterly priceless! This story is part of a series, which you can find here, but Zombie-Actor Cage Fighting is my favourite part and stands alone just fine. Illegal Zombie-Actor Cage Fighting

Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: Chris/JC Author on LJ: sola_fiammaAuthor Website: When Wrong Feels RightWhy this must be read: Because it's my guaranteed pick me up fic. They're my boys and they snark and snipe at each other and it's so obvious to everyone but them exactly how they feel. Plus it's a total giggle fest and finding just one bit to quote was almost impossible. "Fine. Whatever. You're so immature. It was this chick, I was with this chick and she got pissed at me and threw my pants out the window. That's it. End of story. You happy now?"
He waits patiently through three or four minutes of hysterical laughter, Chris and Justin cackling away like demented cartoon witches. Finally, Chris pulls himself together enough to gasp, "Sorry, sorry." He doesn't sound remotely sorry, and JC would probably hang up if he could think of someone else to call. "I know it isn't funny." Muffled giggling. "But, dude, what did you do to her?"
"Nothing. Well, you know. The usual." More muffled giggling. "Fuck. You guys are so immature. It's just, afterwards, um. I kind of told her that she looked like this guy I used to date. You remember, whatshisname? Malloy? Maury? Molly?"
"Dude, I'm pretty sure that even you've never dated a guy named Molly."Best Laid Plans

Attn. Drivers: Tomorrow is the last Friday of the month, which means it's time for Friday Night Drive-In, a.k.a. Fan Vid Recs! Reccers may post 1 vid rec for their fandom, formatted as follows:
Subject Line: VID REC: Fandom - Song Title
Vidder: Musical artist: Pairing: Vidder on LJ: Vidder's website: Why this vid kicks ass:
Because the vidder community has some unique ownership issues, it’s important that reccers be extra careful when making vid recs. Depending on the vidder’s preferences regarding public access to their work, please link your rec in the appropriate manner:
1. If the video is publicly accessible, direct link to the web page the vid is linked on, or if it’s the vidder’s request, to the HTML splash page of their site.
or…
2. Link to the site with instructions on acquiring the password, if the site is protected – do not reveal the password yourselves.
or…
3. Provide contact info for the vidder if their vids are only available privately (tapes, dvd-R’s, collections, etc.).
Do not: Hotlink, i.e. link directly to the video file rather than the webpage. Re-upload videos that a vidder has removed from the web. Delay in removing a vid rec if requested to do so by the vidder.
Thank you! | |

Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT Pairing: Casey/Dan Author on LJ: sliverAuthor Website: None known Why this must be read: There are certain themes that recur throughout fandom, familiar and comfortable as an old sweater. Details vary, of course, and so does execution, but you know the story: it's the one where the two cops (or the two doctors or, this being SN, the two sports anchors) have worked together for years, almost live in one another's skins, but have never quite admitted their real feelings. And then, one day – oftentimes there is beer involved; in this case, there is beer and also Natalie – they do. You know it, and you love it, and you'll gladly read it again and again, because, however familiar the theme, each telling of it takes on the writer's own personality and becomes fresh and new and different. Here, sliver takes that story, adds imagery and banter and a glimpse into the depths of Danny's heart, and turns out something simply marvellous. The blurry contentment Dan had managed to create slowly disintegrates into something else when it’s just the two of them left, something he can’t identify in his hazy state. The bar is smoky and crowded, and they sit close enough to occasionally touch, casual brushes of knees and skin. Dan feels himself flush, not from embarrassment or from the heat of the room, but from something else entirely: want. Putting a name to the feeling is jarring, and he shifts uncomfortably in his seat, before excusing himself to go the bathroom. So much for moving on, he thinks.Good Morning

Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Lex/Hudson, Hudson/Louis Author on LJ: aeloraAuthor Website: DownfallWhy this must be read: aelora's Hudsonverse is well known throught SV fandom; and it's even been recced here before. It's rare to see a genderbend of a story that works better than the actual canon, but Hudson's stories are a breath of fresh air as compared to the show. While the Hudsonverse as a whole is delightful, "Identity" stands out as the masterful first chapter of Superwoman's identity story. Especially delightful here is the character of Louis Lane- it amazes me how Aelora makes Lois a man and still stays truer to the canon character than any of the recent adaptations have (Smallville and Superman Returns). An awesome superheroine and an origin story to kill for make Identity a story not to miss. Identity
