Why this must be read:

It's a cave-in fic (sort of), and I'm a sucker for those anyway, but this is a doozy; Aerye does such a brilliant job of putting the reader in Kowalski's headspace, terrified and confused and desperately worried for Vecchio, that the result is a genuinely tense read that was actually kind of hard for me to get through the first time—I was freaking out just as much as Kowalski was. The structure is very effective, and for a situation that's got high potential for overwrought drama, Aerye has a wonderfully delicate touch, everything understated and all the more powerful as a result. These guys are guys, and they're cops, and they're not going to be making tearful deathbed confessions of love, but there's a hell of a lot going on underneath the swearing and the banter—which is one of the things I love most about them. Plus? Vecchio calls Kowalski "tough guy." That will never, never not be awesome.

Starsky disappears without a trace. Seven years later, he comes back to Hutch. But is it too late?

And when three years ago it all seemed to die down and he wanted to come home but the Feds said no, he’d pushed it a little bit. Started sending Huggy cute little baseball cards, trying to make oblique contact, feeling sure Huggy would run it by Hutch. Only Hug met a bullet before he had chance to do so. And even now, though Starsky isn’t sure whether it was a Fed or a mob bullet, he still knows that he was the one who pulled the trigger

So he’d closed down Starsky and Hutch. They didn’t exist anymore, and if Paul Solberg lived a hollow and lonely life, it was no more than he deserved. And if Paul Solberg woke up sweating and shaking at night, it was more likely to be from a dream of being held by his partner as they hunted for the man who’d poisoned him than it was from a nightmare of mob violence.

Why this must be read: If you've been watching the show, you know how squee-worthy the interaction between Nathan and Hiro is. This fic fills the need for more of that interaction, with much excellent dialog and really good characterization.

Why this must be read:

This is a deliciously long and devilously fic unprecedented in House fandom. What if Wilson had gone with Grace to Italy? And what if, in this imaginary scenario, he'd been sleeping with House beforehand? This follows House as he waits back home, crazy with jealousy but also [eventually] willing to go along with Wilson's suggested experiment.

For all the angst potential, this is a fun piece of work, since it shows that communication can work (if used!). Even in the craziest scenes you know that everything is going to end up okay.

Why this must be read: Since all Immortals are sterile, Highlander mpreg is twice as unlikely as "normal" mpreg, and an explanation requires twice as much hand-waving. This is why Nature gave us two hands.

( Methos discovers he is pregnant. An appropriate explanation is hand-waved into existence. )

In the story, intelligent, reasonable characters do intelligent, reasonable things in response to the situation. However, since the situation is so absurd, their responses are also absurd, such as having Methos dress in drag because a pregnant man would be too conspicuous. The writer deftly underscores these absurdities by inserting mundane passages from a pregnancy manual at key points.

On the one hand, the events of the story are developed in a way that makes them plausible (given the premise). On the other hand, having Methos invite Cassandra to the baby shower is still OMG Methos invited Cassandra to the baby shower, no matter how much sense it makes in context.

It's a fun, cracktastic story. Even if you don't like mpreg, why not give it a try? It's got humor, kind of a plot, threesome sex, a marriage of convenience, a baby, a swordfight, and some nice writing.

Why this must be read: Ride is not some elaborate AU. It's a deceptively simple fic, a story where the band plays some bar in Ohio and Gerard and Frank get together. And yet it is so much more than that. The characterization is perfect, the dialogue is perfect, everything just *flows*. It's funny and sweet and mellow and one of my favorite MCR fics ever.
