02:19 am Buoyancy by Merry (PG13-ish?)
Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: Chris/Lance
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] merryish
Author Website: any road

Why this must be read: This was one of my favourite stories in the latest SeSa despite my issues with Lance never getting to go to space. (Yeah, I too wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up.) It's at once funny, touching, and tinged with sadness. The interaction between Lance and the rest of the guys is fantastic and speaks of immense fondness and years of familiarity, and a lot of the dialogue manages to be hilariously funny without in any way detracting from the hurt and sadness. This is a small gem of a story!

05:19 am Girl Friends' Girl Friends, by Caia (unrated, PG)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Fire/Ice (Bea/Tora), unrequited Mary Marvel/Bea
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] caia_comica
Author Website: Caia's fic on LJ
Why this must be read:

This story is a rare opportunity to indulge in the sheer delight that is Mary Marvel, circa I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League!.

Mary's voice is absolutely spot-on, here: disturbingly perky and naïve, yet utterly charming at the same time. Sure, Mary Marvel voicing her thoughts on sex is a slightly brain-breaking read, but she does so in a wonderfully endearing fashion; the overall effect is both oddly adorable and rather amusing.

08:51 am Discards by Greensilver (PG)
Fandom: Due South
Pairing: none (though it could be read as Bob/Buck if you're so inclined)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] greensilver
Author Website: metatextual.net

Why this must be read:

Honestly, it would never have occurred to me to look for fic about young Bob Fraser and young Buck Frobisher, but I ran across this story one day and was immediately, wholeheartedly converted. It's a short piece, with the two Mounties playing cards by their campfire in the snow, and Greensilver's imagining of their younger selves is absolutely delightful. Frobisher is cheerfully rakish and random, and Bob is simultaneously frustrated and sort of fascinated, and they're both adorably boyish and immature in their own ways; seeing the early days of this friendship that is going to span so many years and miles (and gaseous emissions) is fantastic. A very fun read, guaranteed to leave you smiling.
