Author Website: fic listed on an lj tag
Why this must be read:

Torchwood is supposed to be top secret, acountable to no one, and yet we know Jack Harkness regularly sends reports to the Prime Minister and isn't always terribly pleased with what the PM does with them. [livejournal.com profile] crabby_lioness takes that one little moment and gives us a hysterical little drabble about one of those occasions.

Fandom: HOUSE, M.D.
Pairing: House/Wilson
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sockitup
Why this must be read:

Set somewhere towards the end of season two, Wilson tries to get House to go to a bookstore party-- why?! House doesn't know but he wants to. And thus is the set-up for a fic that has its share of the funny, the witty, the hits-all-the-right-places arguments, and overall lovely build-up to slash. The "They Figure It Out" trope isn't exactly new to House fandom, but "Deconstruscting the Text" does it with style. One of the best of the genre!

"You were unusually nice," Wilson observed.

"Was there a reason that I shouldn't have been?" House asked, turning towards him.

"Your utter loathing of being here?" Wilson said, almost... hopefully. House's eyes narrowed.

"Wait," he said, slowly starting to smile. "Are you counting on me to be a bastard?"

"No," Wilson said, after just slightly too long a pause. "Of course not."

Author Website: Little Corner of the Universe

Why this must be read:
Here's a story in which Harry is a professor at Hogwarts, having trouble settling into his role as teacher. Her Bumbling!Harry is adorable, and Snape is acerbically in character. I like the many details, and I like the noshing of chocolate biccies on their long, slow path to a terrible first date. The ending section left me laughing out loud.

Fandom: TOUR OF DUTY
Pairing: Sergeant Zeke Anderson/Colonel Carl Brewster
Author on LJ: None
Author Website: Notes From the Underground

Why this is a must read:

Although Sergeant Zeke Anderson has it bad for Lieutenant Goldman, he allows
himself a liaison with the very charismatic Colonel Carl Brewster. This is a
"no strings" attached night of sex, both men knowing it can't and won't be
anything more. Morgan shows us Brewster's more exotic side as he takes Zeke
on an erotic adventure like none the sergeant has ever before experienced.
It's a very sexy and heated encounter between two very hot men, both of whom
are comfortable with who they are and each other.

Carl could see he didn't understand. There were higher levels of sexual
experience just as there were higher levels of consciousness, both achieved
through a certain physical and mental state. Zeke in some ways, despite his
age and experience, was still an innocent. Carl was looking forward to
teaching him.

He leaned in so their breath mingled and didn't move. Under his hand, the
heart beat more rapidly.

"A kiss, performed properly, is the most intimate physical experience two
people can share. So I ask you again, may I kiss you?"

10:35 pm New Crew/Old Foes, by KT (PG-13)
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: NA
Author Website: Black Raptor listing
Why this must be read:

I love Alternate Universes. I enjoy the creativity authors display in adapting canon to new times, new places, and new circumstances. In KT's RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) series, the boys have been transplanted to a small seaside town in the British Isles. Chris owns a horse farm. Buck runs a pub. Nathan is the town doctor, Josiah a priest, Vin an ex-Marine ship's mechanic (the Vinnebago becomes an old yacht), Ezra an early-retired financier, and JD a teen without family who is taken under Buck's generous wing. They play rugby and cricket, socialize at Buck's pub, and are the volunteer crew of a state-of-the-art life boat that sets to sea in the worst weather to rescue people at the risk of their own lives.

In 'New Crew' the team is assembled to replace the crew of a life boat tragically lost at sea, just learning to work together, and facing the first perilous tests of their teamwork. In 'Old Foes' people from the past bring angst and danger on both land and sea.

KT's writing alternates between griping action and charming details of life in Cornwall, with a rich appreciation for the way the sea is woven into the life of the community.

Why this must be read: Practically everything that Opensound writes is amazing, and this is no exception. This fic is built on a 'what if?' premise, and it is beautiful. The writing is graceful. I can't say enough good things about this.
